The point of life is the persuit of happiness. If you live your life in a way that will be conductive to your own happiness you won't need death. Though to tell you the truth it is a very comforting thought to me. When I first became atheist I was upset at the prospect of no after life, but once I embraced a live for the here and now motto it became okay.. I learned to try to make this place my heaven, and not to expect one to be given to me, but as I said suicide is a comforting thought. Right now Im a pretty happy person, the world is shity overall, but Im fairly happy, and I know that if Im ever in a situation that I don't see a solution for I have a very simple way out.... Pluys I don't want to get really really old.. I think I would kill myself beofre that happens... Sorry it just to me seems like after you hit 40 all the fun of life is gone.

I am asking you to live an immoral life for me. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I sinned. But you can do it all you want and get away with it (sorry to say your going to hell) but it's alright cause you don't even belive in hell.
God doesn't wants you to be able live with yourself if you sinned though, which is why people on every level from the worst to the best have been attracted to religion. Go out and have some fun, don't go crazy, but if you believe in god, don't let him stop you living a healthy and normal life.
And just because there isn't a god to regulate what I do, doesn't mean I should just do whatever I want. I feel I live a normal life, just as normal as anyone of faith. What I do on sunday mornings doesn't affect what I do for my whole life.

Not funny at all, just fucking depressing, all he did was talk about how vile the human race is by describing (not in funny ways, mind you) every depraved act human beings have come up with, murder, rape, torture, genocide, necrophilia, cannabalism, human sacrifcie, suicide, masterbating while choking yourself with a belt, ect.
That was some good Carlin, in my opinion. And this is someone who's watched all of his HBO specials and bought his Gold album along with burning some of my friends' stuff. I own Napalm and Silly Putty (still makes me laugh) too. When you have a forty year career under your belt, it's hard to come up with new material without seeming incredibly cynical. And he made excellent points. He also still plays with words like no other man alive. Carlin's last HBO special was amazing. And I can't wait until he comes to Detroit so I can see him.

whaaaat? I'm atheist as well, I don't think my life is bleak and miserable, just because we, or at least I, feel that gods were not the reason for our creation and rule over us as we speak doesn't mean I have a bleak and miserable life.

The problems of the world do prove that either
A: God does not exist
B: He is not omnibenevolent
C: He is not all powerful

You were in my topic. You should know better.
Though everyone is equal, by definition, you need to have a soul to be a person. And since Atheists renounce that aspect in life, they don’t count.

That goes with choice B... If he dosen't care he is not omnibenevolent... You could go with the deist theroy where he once lived and is now dead or something... But that dosen't make much sense...

Oh, ok. That's not really that old then.
90s Carlin was pretty good, but his really early stuff wasn't that great. It wasn't really Carlin-y, if you know what I mean.

No.. by no means does the soul define that you are a person... Because the soul does absolutely nothing!!!!!! Nothing!!!!! No observaable phenomenon Require a soul. You don't need a soul to think. To live. To remeber. All these things are bilogical functions... The soul, if anything is a ghost you become when you die... Which simply means all theists are haunted.. by themeselves... I mean the very idea of a soul Has no credible backing so how you can simply decide that it defines are person is beyond me... Maybe you should seek a pirate for help with true enlightenment,

Let's go smoke some cigarettes and marijuana and impregnate lots of women! It's a good thing that guy's religion is holding him back from that 'fun', he'd probably be a fucking lunatic otherwise.
I think there are some connections being drawn that don't necessarily exist -- like -Gooie-'s soul talk. Unless not believing in a god is rejecting the idea of a soul, but I guess that would depend on how you define soul. If you're going to connect soul with something a god plants in you when you're born, then an atheist wouldn't believe in that, but if you think of the soul as being the mind, then that's a different story. There might be a disagreement on the word, but what it's describing might be accepted.
To suggest that atheists kill themselves is kind of low, but I'm going to assume you were joking. Just because atheists don't believe in a god, they should kill themselves to see if they are right? Just because they're not living to a serve a god -- serving a god by working for minimum wage, going to school, posting on a forum --, they should kill themselves?
If you're going to take that approach, maybe we should all commit suicide. Some sects of Protestantism believe in predestination: Whether or not we will go to Heaven or Hell has been decided at birth. Of course, you're assuming that whatever you've been told/read is 100% true.
Maybe you should kill yourself to find out if you're right, then report back to us by appearing in tree bark.

Im gonna search fo that topic, but as of right now I se no lgical evidence for your calim... In fact I think the fact tat through labotomization, or intoxication we can remove free will proves your theory wrong... If we have a soul we would have it at all times, but yet there are drugs which can remove all free will, and make someone completly subserviant...

Here - but free will is basically irrelevant if you are going to kill yourself anyway.

I personally vote fool, but christians at times (not all christians mind you) can become intolerant and ignorant. We have seen it happen before in the past the present and im sure we will see it in the future. When the kingdomofgod feels its power over the masses slipping away.

What do you live for then? To not beleive in God oes not mean you will comit suicide - i beleive as long as there is an chance of helping people while you live then you have purpose. I'm not sure about god but i beleive we should live our lives as if there is one i.e not murder, help each other etc.

i think this is god's test (the world) to see if we still belive in him after; your mom dies, you lose your job, your dog runs away, you break your leg in a car accident....ect ect
if we still believe in him at the end of our days we get in. If we dont he pulls the hatch

Altho I completely disagree with that atheists should die. I find it ironic how, in this situation, they use to Bible to defend themselves.

Toad, shut up.
This guy has just done a post about the problems of free-will.
Atheists don't believe in a religon as they are smart enough to realise it is made up shit. We live our lives, have fun nights out, have the occasional rant and generally ignore religon because it is not relevant to us.
