I have to say: I like Americans. It's the American government and the corporations that I sometimes have a problem with.

Well, I hate to be the one to say this...
But the US is NOT at the top of the list as far as nations that disperse economic support to other nations.
I think Canada is actually higher than us on that list.
But-
I agree with this thread, every Canadian I've ever met has had a severe attitude problem with reguards to the US. I think it comes from being both Britan and the US's Bitch State at the same time.
Canada needs to think about kissing our ass. And I don't mean their government kissing our government's ass.
Q: What is the most heavily-traveled border in the world with reguards to tourism? Yeah. You got it. America is an integral part in Canada's success.
Hey, Weed Clock, the main reason that Canada does so well is that from the start they have been a mirror image of US. With the exception that they act after we do, they learn from our mistakes, without making their own. They copy our successes and do the other thing when we fuck up.
We're still pioneers and Canada's still copying.
I don't hate Canada or it's people. But I do hate the fact that Canadians seem to think we're not connected in any way, that Canadian law and government weren't fashioned after SOMEONE. The fact that many Canadians think they'll be safe if we go playing with fire. Canadian opinion does have sway here, but it loses momentum due to the fact that you think you're in GODDAMN EUROPE.
And- hey- at least we don't treat you like Mexico.
I've heard Canadian opinions, and all I can think is "That sounds soo.... American."
When it comes down to it, the way I feel is like this:
Don't hate us because we have the better location.

I'm Canadian. I object to my country being under the iron boot of the US. I hate the actions of the US government, and I also hate my government for supporting them. Yeah, I got a lot of hate, probably too much for my own good, but what ya gonna do. I'm working on it.
Now, I don't hate americans just for being American. That's just stupid. I do, however, expect Americans to keep an open mind and to have educated opinions that are and grounded in fact. If this isn't you, then you're a stupid American. But hey, if a Canadian doesn't do the same, then they're a stupid Canadian. So I don't hate Americans, just the stereotypical dumbass American who thinks the world is a better place because of the US. And honestly, that's most Americans. But it's also most Canadians. The world is full of idiots, and I bash 'em all equally!

And, by the way, Canada has done several things before the US.
-Abolishing the Death Penalty
-Gay Marriages
-Decriminalizing "sodomy." (in several american states, oral sex is illegal. Sucks to them :P)
-Decriminalizing suicide, of all things.
-Universal Health Care

And the Metric system.
I still wonder why the US is Imperial. hmmm
But Canada and the US are connected, but don't act like we copy everything.
We are a lot like one country in some ways, as we experience many things together. Sometimes the US reacts first and we react similarly, sometimes they react first and we react differently.
Sometimes we react first, etc.
It's like walking hand in hand somewhere. You don't accuse the other person of copying you when you step around a puddle, do you?
That's what is going on with us.

It's interesting to note that the strongest fact about our national identity is what we aren't, not what we are. Canadians define themselves first and foremost as "not American."

My whole view on the matter of the international affairs of the U.S. is this: Screw the rest of the world. We ought to pull out of International Politics and worry more about our own domestic problems. Because no matter what we do internationaly, we're going to piss someone off. It's a sad fact, so let's stop wasting American tax dollars and lives trying to please the world.
I don't agree with everything the US does. I think we ought to try to comply with the Kyoto Pact/Treaty/ whatever. We should leave Iraq alone for now, and instead focus solely on N.Korea, who seems completely willing to build nuclear weapons no matter what the UN says.
The only thing that pisses me off is when a citizen of another nation calls Americans "arrogant." How the fuck do you know whether or not all, or even a good portion of Americans are arrogant? What, from what you see the US govt. doing on the news, or from an interview with a few American citizens? The average US citizen has no control over what the govt. does.

I am Canadian but like so many others i love our world and everyone on it. that includes the U.S. The only Canadians that hate america are pompous asses that see that Canada is more peaceful. The fact is is that there is nothing to hate about america but its presidents. Almost all of your citizens are very nice warm poeple. I respect that. May our alliance live on FOREVER!!!!!!!!!

I think all nations have the ability to live in harmony. There is no reason why anyone should hate the other.
P.S. We repulsed you invasion in 1812 and burned your capitol building and we are more peaceful than you. Peace, not military strength should be the aspiring gopal of your nation. In the end, America will be the end of the world. Until then, America Junior salutes you!!!!!

The war of 1812 was Britan's war, not Canada's.
And we kicked Britan's ass again.
-Oh, the capitol was not torched, mainly just the White House.
Canadians and Americans are a Homogenous mix of eclectic people, with many of the same views on Life, The Universe, And Everything. I think the main focus of this post in the begining was the fact that Canadians try to dissassociate themselves from the USA. And they do. In some ways, rightly so, Canada is, afterall a whole other country, Not to mention the largest in the world (as far as landmass goes, NOT population). But what was originally said in this thread still rings true. Canadians ARE THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK despite all of the nice things about their country.

You know when it comes down to it we're practically one nation. I mean our cultures are the nearly identical, locationwise we're close enough, and relgious beliefs nearly mirror one another in their pseudo-equal treatment of religions... When a Canadian insults an American it's about as stupid as someone from Alabama calling a Georgian a hillbilly.

That doesn't make us better, it's just what we feel is important. As opposed to strong military and a highly-competive, capitalistic society.
Just a difference in ideology. However, many Americans would prefer that ideology. When it comes to ideology there is no good or bad though, it's a belief. People are free to hold any belief they want.
I think its surprising that the most rational person speaking on this subject calls himself Marijuanna Clock. But I seriously can't add anything to this except for "I agree."

We're a pan calling the kettle black. We're black, but not as charred. And the kettle has that little darker spot near the bottom...
But we aren't the same. We've been exposed to different government practices, upbringings, experience, etc. We're very similar, but we're not "the same".
