I don't think I'd find satisfaction in revenge. Nothing would atone for the loss of my father. Murder does not justify murder. He is not alone in this sentiment.

It's not that i don't feel any hatred or resentment to the guy, of course i would like to bash his face in with a sledge hammer, it's just that i feel the anger is completely independent to the sorrow of loss, i would still feel horrible about my father, so it's pointless and selfish. But i don't really care, death is not the worst thing ever.

So let me ask you all. Do you think a prison is a place for punishment, or rehabilitation?

Of course I would, to say the least, feel antagonistic towards someone who caused any harm to my family let alone murdered a relative. I wouldn't hold it against anyone who felt that the person who killed their dad deserved the same fate. It's hard to imagine anything worse than losing someone you truly love and care for to a senseless, preventable act of violence and I would have nothing, but utter contempt for that person.
Thats why ultimately, the decision whether the killer should live or die is not up to the victim's family. Our system is set up to have a subjective third party make the final decision, not someone who is grieving over the loss of a family member and is too emotional to make an intelligent decision whether someone can or can't be reformed.

I'm not going to argue about whether or not he is guilty because I don't have all - or even any - facts. I hope I've inspired somebody who knows nothing about the subject just as I do to do the same.
So I'm basically awesome.

Very true. I agree with this. However, the victim's and their families should always be in the minds of the jury/judges.
Anyway, back to the photoshopping! The Bedn/Wade pic is definitely the best so far.

and btw, my comment was directed at the mdeia mongoloids, that don't care about when he's nominated for a noble peace prize, or that he wrote books for kids. Yet when Jamie Foxx and Snoop Dogg say something, they look twice.

Hmm, I thought your comment was more about public attention and concern than the media. You do have a point there. My bad for missing it.

Maus, perhaps you could help me understand Tookie's repentance.
How are we expected to be convinced of his reformation and usefullness, when he has yet to claim responsibility for the murder of those four people?
I was having a tough time taking a stance on this issue until I heard him insist on his innocence. I just can't bring myself to go out on a limb and believe this man's repentance without first seeing his acknowledgement of crimes committed.

Then again, the bible prohibited false idols, yet we're a country fascinated with celebrities and leaders.

It is possibly the hardest lesson to learn, forgiveness. The only people in any sort of position to rebuke him would be those he has directly wronged (I speak of the 4 victims' families.) That's not you, and that's not me. For his crime against society in general, he has repented, and worked at righting the horrible wrong he created and for that, forgiveness is in order.
