We have taken the Portal submit feature off-line. It will likely remain that way until late Thursday or early Friday. You will still be able to play games on the site until the time it goes down. I will probably put up a non-database-driven page to play Domo-Kun or something while the database is down later today.

I hope everyone is as excited as we are! This is the biggest server upgrade in the history of NG. Site performance is EXPECTED to improve anywhere from 150-200%... We are hoping it will be in the 200% range. :)

i was going to say the server was running way to slow to be normal. well at this rate you will have a new fast server in no time at all.

The site was actually running slow this morning because the adserver appears to be down. Not sure how we will tackle that when the server is upgraded. :)

Hey Tom,

You may be able to bypass a slow loading ad banner by making the banner seperate on the page - independent of any HTML tables. That way the page will not stall trying to laod the banner into Table. Might take some creative thinking - but if you try it out you will see what i mean. Basically what might be happening is the page cannot render because it is waiting for the table to load, which in turn is waiting for the ad to load. If the ad was somehow seperate or in a small table by itself - it might not stall the rest of the page. It is worth trying out. Email me if you don't get what I am saying...or maybe you do - and this is all just old news.

I get what you're saying... I should probably try redesigning the header to give that a shot.

I would love to just serve the ads as regular NG images, and not pull them through outside, unreliable ad hosts.

I'm very excited about this. Often I come on, goto view movies only to see an error message saying the server is under extreme load. Most of my other times on here the server is so slow it takes up to 4 minutes to load pages and movies. So obviously this news is wonderful to hear!
