Sort of. Ok, so it's just one track, but I'm determined to get this one done.
This idea floated about between me and some friends of mine a while back, and I finally got round to composing a huge-arse mother-fucker of a orchesteral symphony, soley for the purpose of the forumites to sing to.
What follows is the current version, its unfinished (lacking the vocals.. read on), not completely mastered and a lot of the timing is off, but it gives a good idea of the style i'm trying to hit here:
\/Click here to hear current version of the full backing track\/
Le Portique de Musique - An Audio Portal Musical.
I tried my best to get a Les Miserables style feel to the whole thing, and to finish it, I'm going to need a bugger load of vocalists. Thats where you come in.
It dosnt matter if you can't sing, its all for the fun of it really, and the more people who apply the better. Theres basicaly five parts, + as many chorus singers as possible that are needed. Of course, you're going to need to have a decent quality mic, and the ability to send me an mp3 (can't be arsed with wavs, too big) of the finished product, as well as knowledge of how to keep your singing in time.
When you record your part, play the individual backing using headphones, and record through mic. That way, you end up with a clean bit of vocal track.
Part lists are as followed, as well as a handful of small samples of each part.
CHORUS
Gonna need a lot of these guys. Theres 3 stanzas of chorus, Sing harmonies or lead, dosn't really matter.
(two of the stanzas are the same, so only need to be recorded once.)
Our votes are meaningless!
Our music sollom bliss!
We're artists, hear our cry!
Don't look and pass us by!
Our call, an honest one!
Our mission, pure freedom!
Our struggle, our campaign
To bring us sturdy fame!
Solos
There are 4 solos. 3 of them are litteraly one-liners, and another one is 2 stanzas, so if you want to go forward for that, make sure you have at least some skill at singing.
Solo 1: [Sample
] Our votes are meaningless!
Solo 2: [Sample
] Our music sollom bliss!
Solo 3: [Sample
] Don't look and pass us by!
Big solo:
Big solo backing
Our reviews, just and fair
our forums, our affair
our work is almost done
our crusade has just begun
The portal looks to us
as source for all their work
to give their flash substance
with glowing ambience
Thats pretty much it. I really aim to make a new kind of collaberation here with this
track, one which everyone can take part in, regardless of software.
Once you have finished your part, mail it to Khuskan (at) Gmail (dot) com
I PREY i've done all my tags right. All the links should work, if not, expect a double post.

Loved the idea! - could be extremely amusing and entertaining - I listened to the track and thought it had a great deal of potential - now if only there were a NG choir that you could tap ...

Half the fun is that most of the people that apply probably won't be very good at singing anyway, so it will sound properly like a thrown together musical.

Solo 3 is meant to be 'We're artists, hear our cry', not that. Whoops. Same audio clip applies.

I'm in. Expect my part in like a week.
If I sent you a wav though it would be way better quality.

This response is great :)
Keep in mind that its best to send .mp3's, i'll decode them once I get them. Don't worry about effects and stuff, i'll be adding reverb myself and if you suck at singing in tune, I do have an autotune program...
Pop group quality tuning in no-time!

>Update<
The main backing sample has been updated with improved EQ, improved reverb, better echo and most of the timing errors fixed.
The link up top should still work, but if your lazy click here.
You might need to refresh to hear the difference.

God, Khuskan, if you're that desperate for people who can sing, I'd be glad to lend you my voice. As soon as I find my damned microphone...

Think about the fame solus, think about the fame.
or at least we can find some second-rate flash artist to animate it once its done. Popularity for all involved... possibly!

I'd love to sing, but really, Even though people here say "I cant sing".
I cant even variate my tones when singing.
So in general, I'll have to let this one pass. Great idea though Khuskan.

Does it involve shiny things? No matter what the answer is, tomorrow I'll steal my friend's microphone and record it for ya. Now which part would you like me to sing?

If you can actually sing, go for the big solo, else go for the chorus.
Come to think of it, if you do the solo do the chorus as well, anything to make it sound thicker :)

I think you should submit a sample of someone singing. I'm not sure of the melody. I mean, yeah the strings or whatever make it pretty obvious, but aside from that, I have no clue. If you don't we're all going to be singing everything slightly different.
Has anyone done a part yet?

if you look at each of the parts, theres a small link above them that links to some piano-only of the melody that the part fits.

Alrighty then, I shall do alla them! Now one last question: high falsetto or low baritone? I can do those or pretty much anything in between. Just nothing alto. I'm bad at alto. Really bad. You don't want to hear me sing alto.

Play around, see what sounds best to you. The bigger the variety between the chorus singers the better really, because then it sounds deeper and bigger.

Was a bit of a fluke really, thanks to Denvish Day. Officialy makes me and Chronamut to be the first regular submitters to be up twice. Denvish dosn't count because he's a hacker.

Denvish is a hacker?! GASP!!!! Maybe we should get one of the mods to ban him :)
