"Sprittles"
http://www.newground..365738&sub=37696

I don't know how many of these tracks I've heard on movie trailers and in Immediate Music's library of music. Not to mention all the HALO tracks are straight from the CD disk itself.

Man, I hate to be a rat, but sheesh.. who monitors these people who post music? And Why are people silly enough to actually believe they are the true creators?

And... How often do people like this come across NG's website?

Maybe I should turn my head the other way, but it just puts a bad name to the audio and musicians who have worked hard for their music.

all the best,
/justin

Most people dont recognize the music or havent heard of it.

You could contact an audio mod or an admin to have the person banned. Either that or constantly vote zero or the X everyday on the stolen music.

Most of the time, people hear about the audio portal and assume it's a place to post your favorite songs from you playlist, true story.

The audio mods only get to choose if a user is banned or accepted WHEN THEY SUBMIT THEIR FIRST PIECE. Once they're in, we have no control over what they submit.
As for recognising whether their first piece is stolen or not, all we have to go on is whatever music we've heard (I've never played Halo), and whatever information they have in their profile (if they have one). So you can imagine, it's not an easy job to try and distinguish the genuine musicians from the ones who submit stolen stuff.
In terms of what to do about this particular user, your best bet is to email liljim with as much proof as you can.

Well, There's also alot of people who keep claiming its him creating em.
The thing is, he's just re-arranging it, He's not putting any work into it, but he's rearranging it.

As in changing the order of part 1 and 2, cutting and pasting in general.
Where goes the limit? There.
I'd still say that in a way, it might not be stolen, but is still not his original work.

XGM-Zeth, if he uses samples from an excisting copywrited song, he is submitting illegal material. Een though its just a small hihat hit, its still illegal.
There are plenty of samples that are free, for example the reason factory soundbank and the prchestra soundbank. Well, considering you have to pay for the prog they aint "free", but u can use them. Gah u know what im saying, right?

Yeah, I am.

I'm not trying to justify what he did, i'm just giving some of the facts i've gathered about this guy.

And erkie, He cant have been submitting his track-list as he keeps claiming to be the "king of ..." heck, i think he prounces it "Orqieustial" or something like that.
and when a guy pretends to be so damn good at Orchestrated, knowing the right prounonciation of that word, is always a bonus.

I sometimes just don't think its even worth the time or energy to report these guys. There will be others that will just keep popping up even after he's gone. Ooh well. As long as there are others out there who know this guy is a fraud too, that's all that matters to me.

... "Unless", he works for Immediate Music, or he's X-Ray Dog which I highly Doubt it. One track is from my friend, Justin Skomarovsky's called, "End of War" which was a 'pearl harbor' tribute piece he created a few years ago.

who knows. maybe he's legit? You guys decide. I give up trying ;)

Well if you suspect there be some artist uploading illegal material, flag the song and simply e-mail a mod, its not much work and it helps clearing out. There´s no need starting a thread and a discussion about it if you dont want to, even though bringing the bad guys in the light is a good thing of courses ;)
I usually flags the artist and once in a while tell whoever NG frequenters I have contact with on MSN to check it out and flag if they wish.
To clear the AP more resources is needed here, and that will take a while I reckon...
But don´t "give up" man :)

There will be more like this, and it's up to the Admins and the Citizens of NewGrounds to stop these fiends!

This is the problem. It's as hard, if not harder, for the (active) audio mods (of which there aren't many) to decide whether an artist is genuine or not, since we quite often only have their FIRST submitted track to judge them on. Personally, I would love to see a similar Portal system on the AP as there currently is on the Flash Portal - it would give more people (like yourself) 'in the know' a chance to flag stolen submissions, and it would also allow blamming of complete shit.

BUT, the AP brings in a small fraction of NG's total traffic (liljim quoted some stats somewhere, but I didn't bookmark it), so I can fully understand why making upgrades to the AP is low on the list of priorities in programming NG enhancements. NG will always exist primarily for Flash work - yes, I'm aware it's frustrating for some of the GREAT musicians who come to the site (yourself being pretty near the top of the pile), but unfortunately, at least for the moment, that's the way things work

I'm not sure of the complete list. Paragon, Rage, FDA, -Gooch-, RedCircle (BrotherRed currently), BadBit, and Captain_Bob, Uberbarista and Proteas are the ones that I know of. As far as I know, and judging by the length of the pending list every time I look at it, I am still the only active audio mod. Rage kind of disappeared when I got made an audio mod (think he was relieved to be rid of the responsibility, RedCircle gets in there very occasionally, -Gooch- and Proteas might do some clearing but I haven't seen much evidence of it. I try to clear the list every 3-4 days, and usually I have 70-80 3+Mb submissions to check out to do so.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa, honestly if people aren't doing their part you seriously should fire them. Places like OCR would take forever for people to judge the music if they had only one active judge, it wouldn't even be possible. Honestly, you need to crack some whips, if people aren't doing their jobs you kick them out and give them to someone who will do them.

I still love your song freak-factory - very good - and thx for the soundfont tips a week back - really helped my song! ^^

but I disagree - dont fire them all - just add more! The whole bandaid solution problem! If you just add more eventually when a bunch of them are on itll go faster - it can only be beneficial to keep adding more.. muhahaah...

I came in on a writing jag. Iono why. But anywho, if his music is stolen, it demands swift investigation by the mods depending on however many people believe it is. We may have to increase the mod population for this sort of thing... If that is necessary, I volunteer. I've got nothing else to do anyways.

here's another topic. Apparently he just started making music this past October. He's very talented and a quick learner if that's the case. And he must of just had a birthday. He was 13 two days ago. Now he's 14 and his middle school band uses synths in their orchestra.

Well first of all I guess you have to ask yourself what you expect from submitting music to the audio portal?
This guy who you link to, maybe he´s really super talented, or maybe he´s just a fraud. Most likley the last alternative, I say from not even having heard his music. But unfortunatley that´s the most cases, when music from some super-talanted youngster pops up in the NG ether.
Anyhow, you are a very talented composer yourself, you make a living from it, even? It´s too bad if you feel that way, you should simply just ignore much of the bad things thats going on here, and focus on the good parts. Then again, it all comes down to what you expect of/from the AP.
Myself I´m a pure amateur, and I really don´t expect much from the AP. A review here and there, some people saying that I did OK. For me it´s better than just letting the songs rot away on my computer. I also started submitting to other sites, but here on the AP there´s a hughe advantage for me as an amateur; I can submit as much as i want. This web page show myself my developement, kindof.

If you don´t want to be part of the community, well that´s too bad for the community :) indeed. I still hope you will submit a song whenever you remembers NG, because your stuff is top 10 on this site, without a doubt.
