I think it's funny that so many of these people seem to have the idea that all of the U.S. soldiers are a bunch of evil shock troops marching through Iraq and raping every poor civilian to death.

more than anything I hate these stupid little shits who sit around with their thumbs up their asses and insult our troops when they lack the ability to concieve being in a life or death situation, let alone been in one. Honestly, what kind of bitch-made cunt would you have to be to say our troops shouldn't be in iraq because of the collateral damage and in the same breath justify the terrorists killing their own people by saying "they're just trying to get us out of their country" We had these same kinds of people during WWII, saying Roosevelt was worse than hitler. Anti-establishment bullshit is fine when you're sitting on your ass in front of your computer, but when you're fighting an enemy who has no qualms about dying and taking everyone (and anyone) with them, you have to take extreme measures.

as far as joining the military, I've considered it, and I still might. I'm not sure which branch I would join, but I would probably enter as a medic or something like that, because that's what I'm good at.

woot for the po2. i'll most likely join the navy after college. after about a year in the navy, i'll then hope to join the seals. i figured it would be either the navy or army special forces, and it was the navy. seeing the i was influenced to go in the navy during early high school. but i wanted to be in the military for quite sometime now.

If you want to do the medic thing you need to remember that the Marines use Navy corpsmen. I'm pretty sure the Army has their own medics though.

Well, here's a bit of advice that I've heard from various family members (who also have served in the military) : When you (if you decide to) go to fill out what trade you'd like to apply for, ONLY fill in the one you want - the recruiters will try to 'sucker' you in to fill in other positions that they need. Their strategy is to say 'oh, well you'll most probably get your first choice, but you better sign in a couple fields just in case '. Then they'll place you into those fields which best fill their quotas.

See, the recruiters have quotas to fill, and the hardest ones to fill are usually the combat trades (infantry, artillery, armor) - while medics are considered a support trade. They may tell you 'Oh, well you'll be able to transfer out later'. Good luck. My Uncle (who happened to serve tours in Bosnia and Afghanistan) has been trying to transfer out of Infantry to Logistics for years now and they keep making bs up to keep him there ('we lost your papers, can you submit them again?') So chances are that he will continue to serve in the Infantry for however many more years.

What I'm saying is - only fill in the position you want, and don't bend to the pressure the recruiters will put on you to 'fill in 'just in case' positions'. Fill in one position, and one position only. If it's not available, then come back later and reapply another time. But I think that shouldn't happen (a lack of avaliability - people are needed everywhere).

Thats for any one thinking about joining the military :)

That's good advice. I really only know about the Navy, but try to do the research on the different jobs before you go in. Find the ones you like. Then try to get one of them. If the recruiter doesn't want you to pick one of those then leave, there are lots of recruiters and if none of them let you choose the job you want then it's probably for the best. Also conditions change over time so don't ask once and give up. DO NOT LET THEM TRICK YOU INTO SIGNING UP FOR SOMETHING YOU DON'T WANT TO DO!

Also, if you do get a job you like, make sure you get it in writing that immediately after completion of basic training you will then proceed to your follow on school. Also, if any bonuses or promotions are involved get them in writing and find out exactly when you will be given the bonus or promotion.

If i ever have to join at all it would be the navy.

For joining i'm meaning for a meanifull war. If another ww2 or ww1 happens that i would enlist immediatly in the navy. If it's the present conflicts and there is a draft i wouldn't like to be conscripted, i would try to not go at all legality but i would probally go anyways.

Plus if i want to do criminal justice in college, being in the navy would be great.

For the current war the worst that can happen is sitting in the gulf for months on end. It sucks but you get paid tax free and you'll have a ton of money when you're done. If you're interested in criminal justice I'd recommend you don't get your heart set on the Legalman rating, I'm pretty sure you have to spend time at sea before you get a shot at that school.

yeah i know that i wouldn't be shot at, but i don't like the aspect of helping something that i don't agree in.

no fucking way. the way this war is going, and in fact how it started, is completely for the iraqis. they didn't do a thing. we almost had osoma, but decided that iraq was more important. i smell pay offs.

I think that Master at Arms is in high demand. All I really know about it is that you have to have a drivers license at the time you go into boot camp.

Yeah, but the MA is always fluctuating up and down. Personally, I think you should take whatever they give you (Assuming that it's not a crap job with no advancement), get your bachelor's degree while you are in, and then have them put you through law school so you can be a JAG. I'm still considering trying that (although not JAG, I'd try to get them to put me through a psychology doctoral program).

From the sounds of it, it don't seem like a lotta people join up for protecting the country or some idealistic dream like that anymore......

Kinda interesting.......

Well, there is no central bad guy that threatens the world as we know it. That's why we have a volunteer force instead of a draft. Now the military is more of a "World Police" XD than an actual war machine, simply because most countries with large enough armies to fight back are smart enough to just wage war in the economical (and healthy) sense. There really are guys who signed up for idealistic reasons, but that stopped being the trend once the fervor over 9/11 died down. Plus, idealism tends to die off after a year or two anyway.

(I have a 190+ IQ and I also learned calculus by age 13.) :

Well that's good......

Let's test that little theory.....

What's the first derivative of:

[(3X^5) + (7X^2)] \ 4X

No one help either. I've only done simple calculus, like Calc 1, so any math majors out there can give em the really difficult stuff....

Einstein's estimated IQ isn't even 190....

My next door neighbor learned calculus at 13 also and he was a fuckin retard. The only reason he learned it was because he was a loser and just read that stuff all day and had lots of help at school.

And 190? Excuse me, this is the internet. Exactly 99% of what people claim they did in real life is complete bullshit.
