So, denvish picks these songs from people who are active on the forums?
I am extremely inactive on this forum, but I have a fair amount of music and it tends to get good reviews, and I only know about this method from Khuskan (who happens to be a good friend of mine in "RL") and I feel it's really unfair.
There are lots of people out there who will never hear how this system works, but will keep posting audio, keep hoping to get on the front page, and keep having their bubbles burst.

It's a nice idea and mostly a nice system, but How is giving people on the forums priority fair? I know I will get no backing, and will probably be flamed for this because, frankly, the people who don't use the forums are hugely unrepresented on the forums, so I stand a very slim chance of getting this recognised, but isn't the method of random selection and listning better than choosing someone of the forums and listning to some music they promoted?

And also, why did this make the weekly number one?

I never said that. There are only a certain number of users who are active in the AF, and many of those fall under the 'established artist' category, rather than 'underrated artist' - partly BECAUSE they make use of the audio community (forum) on Newgrounds

What, you want me to randomly select ANY AUDIO from the AP? Do you know how many tracks there are on the AP, and how shit some of them are?
Also, are you aware that I have other obligations besides spending hours trawling the AP for good tracks?
I never said that I was ONLY going to feature people who posted on the forums. But the fact is that a lot of the AF regulars are the ones who are serious about their music, and have also got more involved in the NG community. So yes, they will get priority on those days when I can't spare the time to browse through several 10s of thousands of audio submissions, in search of something Frontpageworthy. BUT, on many days, I will be completely ignoring the forums and spending my time (time that I should be spending making Flashes and being with my kids/partner) browsing the AP in search of deserving artists.

As I've said before, I don't pay any attention to AP awards, and I don't know how they work

Seriously, although I understand what you're saying, I don't think you realise what a mammoth and time-consuming task it is browsing through the AP looking for worthy tracks. If you, or anyone else you know, can spare even 5 minutes a day to come on the forums, then
a) it will get you more reviews, opinions and votes
b) it will stand you in better stead for a frontpage spot
c) it will help the NG audio community grow stronger

If you can't be bothered to do that, then it's your loss.

I am fully aware how long that would take - perhaps you could just look through a few mintes a day and see if you get anything good. I am also aware that you have a life, and can't spend all your time on NG, let alone chasing up front page possibilities.
I am aware that the audio portal is littered with shite music, and I am also aware that if it had a blam/protect system like the flash portal it would be somewhat cleaned up, but I know that's not you're problem.
The reaon I don't post often is because of the hundreds of 8 year olds and/or 8 year old wannabes, but I am told that this forum has a firewall (or a flamewall, to be more precise) now, so I'll give it a try.

I'm also going to add this, having seen your topic that RedCircle (another musician) locked. I've been making music since 5 years before you were born (and Flash for only 3-4 years), but I am aware that Newgrounds is a FLASH site. The AP only exists thanks to liljim (programmer, but also a good musician), and he does what he can to keep the AP as prominent as possible. Most of the admins, and friends, have audio on the AP, and the general feeling that they just don't care about it is SIMPLY NOT TRUE. But the fact is that NG started out as THE ORIGINAL Flash portal, and it will always be Flash that is the most important thing on this site. If you attempt to fight that, you start off by losing.

If you really want people to recognise you for your music, then I suggest you take it to a music-based site, rather than a Flash-based one. There are plans for the AP, but the fact is that (quoted from liljim): a flash submission that is featured on the front page
of the site can receive upwards of 100,000 views per day, which is ten times
more traffic for one piece of content on the site than the entire Audio
Portal receives in one day. I can't stress that enough, when it comes to
audio artists wanting exposure.. So you can maybe understand why the AP takes the backburner when it comes to site improvements.

BUT WAIT, I hear you say, IF THE AP WAS MORE RECOGNISED IT WOULD GET MORE TRAFFIC. Maybe, yes, but the fact is that people come to NG for the visual entertainment of the Flash movies and games, NOT for the music. The AP is there as a resource for Flash authors, not a showcase for musicians. However, having said that, I sent liljim an email this morning suggesting that the emphasis in the AP is moved away from being a resource, and more towards being a showcase for artists (where visitors can download tracks for their iPods or mobiles, copyright-free). He hasn't replied to that yet (he's probably asleep - although he lives in the UK, he has to keep USA time so he can keep in touch with US admins), but I fully understand if he rejects that suggestion simply because the required overhaul would pull him away from enhancing the parts of NG that really matter, ie. The Flash, BBS, Profiles, etc

You have to understand that I'm on your side. I'm a musician, first and foremost. But NG is simply not here for musicians, it's here (primarily) for Flash artists, and that isn't going to change.

I know that NG is primarily a flash site, what I was suggesting was a semi-breakoff.
I have been looking around the interweb and I can't find an audio site with a good reviewing and rating system that isn't specialist (like OCR, for example) so if you could direct me to one that would be very much appreciated.
