While I can't say my car is my first love (I met my wife before I got it), I CAN say that it is my second. My third is my computer(s). :-) I got my car in 2002, it's a '99, it's old, it has 77,000 miles on it, but it runs great, looks great, and I'd have no other. :-) You'll note that my profile proudly displays the "Kompressor" badging from my car on the header.

Well, I couldn't call myself lenient...I have (and will) kick out people based on post quality. But let's remember that short posts can be just as mature, apropos, and valid as a stupidly long post (e.g. mine). As long as it's on topic, is a valid addition to the conversation at hand (not just "ZOMG GRATS," "WOW," or "ROFL I MADE 2000 B/P TODAY!!!111oneoneeleven"), it's ok. On the other hand, flaming, off-topic, uncontributive, or "Post +1" posts won't be tolerated. Let's remember even long posts can be below quality (if you want examples, take a look at pretty much all of Dream_of_Duke's posts in this thread). I tend to not yell at people for improper posting in the thread (untactful), so I'll try to PM someone or pull them aside otherwise. Just use your brain and let's keep our image up, and we'll be happy. :-)

Give me a few days to pass up, RSQViper here. =P

According to my extrapolation of the data here, I'm looking at... 266 days?

This is just a rough idea, but I in no way WHAT-SO-EVER want this idea to encourage blind mass-flagging.

(Although, Ventrilo would be a much simpler, effective method. The above just sounds kickass.)

While your idea is interesting and something to think about, I'd have to say no to it. The reason is that it simply fosters mass-flagging and otherwise a collaboration of users in a way that's suspicious. I think we can do well enough with AIM chat-rooms and Vent chatrooms for this purpose. Like I said, a Vent server WILL be coming back soon enough. I'm still working on the underpinnings of the server right now, but am moving forward nonetheless.

Speaking of the server, a little update:

I was having problems with the 750-gig hard drive I plopped into it, thanks to good ol' Dell. However, things finally decided to magically work again (I swear it's possessed), so all is well. Things will be moving forward nonetheless. Once the actual host server work is complete I've abandoned all other projects I ahve for it until I get the forums running. The server will be a bit less robust (no backups or other protections besides power protection) for a while, but at least we'll have SOMETHING. Either way, the project isn't keeping stagnant, as I keep working on it day by day. :-)

Just got accepted into university. I love you all. My gap year has been a total waste of time, but it doesn't matter now because I'm going to UNI. That's right.

University is what you might call 'college' if you're from America. It's basically where you go to get a degree so that you can start your career.

I'll go check it out. I really want to get back into Audio, but I don't have the time and/or resources right now, so I'm left with about 6 mediocre experimental Audio submissions to my name.

I'm thinking of investing in a £1,800 keyboard, namely this one, in order to start up making audio again. Need a job.

Totally. My sister has just finished university, so I think she's planning to take a year out, seeing as she didn't take a gap year before she went.

I guess my gap year hasn't been a TOTAL waste, because I figured out what I want to do with myself, and also gained back my motivation to succeed in my education, which was totally squandered in my last few years of school.

Well I don't know conversion but I do know that professional instruments (especially in america) are very... very expensive so good louck with that. You could always see if you can put it on a payement plan.

I could do, we'll have to see. You're right, though, professional instruments do cost a bomb. I've played the drums for 9 years, and I've had to pay for all of my equipment out of my own pocket, which gets expensive.

Just recently I went to the drum specialist store because I needed a 'foot' for one of my bass drums. The 'foot' is basically a rubber or plastic stopper that goes on the end of the spokes, which keep the bass drum firmly in place on the floor, so it doesn't move or rock about when you're playing. It's a tiny little part that will only normally cost you around £1.50 or so... but turns out that the company who made my kit don't supply these parts on their own, so if I wanted a new one, I'd have to buy a complete new pair of spokes, which would cost more like £20. Crazy.

Good thing they know me well at the drum store - they give me discount on all of the more expensive items that I buy from them, which is cool.

So what are you going to study in school?

Well, I'm on the English Literature course right now, and I'm hoping to convert to Law after the first year. I think it will depend on my marks from my first year exams, but that shouldn't be a problem - English as a subject has always come fairly naturally to me. *Cross fingers*

Well... we don't have stuff like frats/sororities over here, but I'd say that there's definitely a lot of good times to be had.

You don't need fraternities and sororities to have fun. In fact, I had no reason to bother with frats. However, you don't need frats to have fun. You need dorms... :-)

I feel so honored :P

I really want to try Yuengling, but we don't get it over here unfortunately. I've heard good things about it though, so some day I'll venture over the pond and try some whilst I'm there.

Yuengling is one of the few American beers worth trying. Most of the time, I will default to Yuengling (since it's available and, well, awesome), but if you want a comparable good beer to get the feel of a Yuengling, try a Paulaner Lager. Now THAT is a good beer. German, too, so you know you're getting a winner.

Behind every great man is a woman shaking her head in exasperation.

Oh yeah. You said it. :-)

Compound quoting is really the only efficient way to post in threads that consist largely of discussion. I sometimes see people using a separate post to quote each person they want to reply to, and it gets really annoying and spammy IMO.

Long posts are better anyway.

Agreed. Obviously I share the same feelings, as I multi-post like you said. The only problem with multi-posting is it gets difficult to find out who's talking to who. While you can get 4-5 coherent conversations rolling along in one quick post, it's kinda difficult when people need to catch up, or if you are not involved in one specific conversation.

Heh, I might have to delve into it now that you've said that.

I'm starting too today. I was always happy with posting in Wi/Ht to help people out, and there are quite a few good C&C groups I just never noticed (like the Boy Scout club). Either way, you might see me posting around a bit more...

There's nothing but nonsense there, which drives me further to complete and total insanity.

Yeah. I'd be quite happy with General, if people weren't so annoying jocular whenever anyone says anything that's half-serious. Also, like you said, I post big, so the TLDR's just piss me off. I can't bother with it. C&C 4 ME. See?

LOL Well, atleast you know that you have quality posts and that none of them shall ever be deleted, right?

Agreed.

I did. I swear, the EGB monopolizes most of it. LOL EGB everywhere you look

Yeah. There's about 30-40 pages in my post history that are ALL EGB. It's insane.

But what can I say...I love it here. That is the one big advantage of starting your own club around here...it's the perfect place for you. :-)

Anyway, quick business. DEFCON's the same, no big fires on the Portal, and the server's still a-comin'. I actually specced out all the hard drive needs for each VM, so I think I can see exactly how this virtual network will turn out. If anyone cares to learn about the hardware that'll be behind our site/forums/vent server, you can PM me or IM me. I don't want to flood the page with statistics on the server... :-)

So your speeches can sound better. If you use confusing words, the judge should get confused and you'll win the case. Simple!

LOL, although I imagine the judges will be (for the most part) more intelligent than myself. Although, as I'm hoping to go into prosecution if I do become a fully-qualified lawyer, most, if not all of my trials would be in front of a jury.

Yea well that gap year and two years in school must be equal because thats how long it to get my motivation back LoL

Crazy.

Good thing they know me well at the drum store - they give me discount on all of the more expensive items that I buy from them, which is cool.

that sucks, you thats the problem when you have an instrument so long it gets phased out with newer and better instruments. LoL you can always cut into a tennis ball and use that. Thats cool, I buy sax stuff from online catalogs like Woodwind Brasswind, so I can only get the discounts they set LoL.

So what are you going to study in school?
Well, I'm on the English Literature course right now, and I'm hoping to convert to Law after the first year. I think it will depend on my marks from my first year exams, but that shouldn't be a problem - English as a subject has always come fairly naturally to me. *Cross fingers*

If you become a lawyer, guess what... Tom might hire to be their lawyer for NG and stuff LoL Defend NG's right to publish flash and stuff

Yeah, I agree with you both. My mom is probably wondering what I'm doing, taking so long to make only one post. I think that short posts back to back are stupid, even if I am slightly guilty of them, myself. We should probably run for the Best Poster contest, what with all our long posting and such.

I'm trying to get to my 1337 post already. With all the pressure to do it though, I may just give up and start taking my time again. I noticed a lot of new clubs lately.

Yup, General users usually piss me off and get on my nerves. Any serious discussion quickly succumbs to cock-jokes and spam, not that I don't like cock-jokes, but it gets annoying when you feel like you're surrounded by immature seven year olds.

There's plenty of ideas that I've got for our forums, but I'm waiting for the transition to the new forums. No reason to pimp out an idea when it might not be around for much longer in its current location.

Once the new forums are up and operation, I plan to re-start the newbie-helping idea---watching the blog page for people needing help with understanding Newgrounds and telling them about the way the site works...and, possibly, getting some future NGPD'ers or EGB'ers.

Nice. Over here the good beers to go for are Kronenbourg, and my personal favourite right now - Cobra. The latter goes exceptionally well with almost everything, but is amazing with curry, being that it's indian beer.

Sometimes, yeah. For me it's slightly easier to pick out quotes directed at me, as my username is all caps, so it's slightly easier to see amidst the rest of the text. I've never really had a problem navigating through long posts... I got used to them when I started posting in the Wi/Ht forums... there was a time in the Level up! Lounge where myself and some other users were making such long posts that we'd need to divide them in half and post them in two parts in order to meet the character limits.

I'm starting too today. I was always happy with posting in Wi/Ht to help people out, and there are quite a few good C&C groups I just never noticed (like the Boy Scout club). Either way, you might see me posting around a bit more...

Wi/Ht is a great forum... of course I have to say that being that I'm on the memberlist. ;P

It's nice to help people out, though, and there's some good stat threads and conversation to take part in. The only downside is that it can be slightly slower than most of the other forums, but TBH, I think that's a relatively small price to pay for having a lot of nicer, more intelligent regulars.
