What do you find fault with in that statement? Maybe you meant to quote my reply describing a bicycle to be light-hearted about the post that basically told me not to promote something that isn't completed yet.

I hate those Mary Sunshine types, too. It's out of character for me, so that's why I posted what I did. I was being funny. It was very David Cross. I've been listening to a lot of his material lately.

Random, but you know what ticks me off?

All the political infighting done by the major flash groups over Turd of the Week and Underdog. Not just because it's wrong, but because I kinda liked seeing what would legitimately earn TOTW...to see what just barely managed to scrape by.

Bah.

yeah, it would be nice to see for once, what actually deserves the award, even though it is the worst award.

I'm HOPING it'll be done today...I'm trying to B/P, watch the forums, PM a bundle, and work on it all at the same time...but worst case scenario, yeah, tomorrow.

I hope it's today, because SlashClassic12 has just been submitted, and I'm in charge of 13 (ramagi). So the longer I take, the longer Slash Classics will be delayed.

Which, depending on your sense of humor, might not be a bad thing. XD

Why do they act like such babies over UnderDag and Turd of the week, it's such an undesirable spot, why? Stupid politically crazy flash groups and their damn fighting...
I personally haven't paid any attention to TOTW or UDOTW lately, but I have noticed the political infighting...

Forgot to post this like, yesterday.
I had a pretty good day.

Blams: 11412 (+42 since last log)
Saves: 12916 (+49 since last log)
Total B/P points: 24328
Total B/P points acquired today: 91
B/P Badge: Elite Guard Lieutenant General (1172 until next grade)
Avg. B/P Points per day: 23.088
B/P Rank: #130 (0 move since last log)

Not much to talk about, although it's cool that the thread is becoming more active (thanks to Slash, apparently).

When you get involved with making lots of flash like me, you invariably get to know the behind-the-scenes politics better than the average NG'er. Never personally been involved in the infighting (although I've been asked to, and knew people who did)...

Anyhow, yeah, the fighting is intense. People down-vote their own flash, up-vote other flash that are a threat to winning the award...pfft. It's so silly.

Ironically, TOTW is harder to win than Weekly First now, with all the politics and mass-voting. Which is just fucked up.

It would ne nice just for one month to have no [KK] and no mass voting just to see what would win the awards.

I had never imagined it was that bad. I might just have to get back to flash and win a weekly first then.

I don't really like most of what the crew/union/legion all those types do, but it's almost like you have to vote for it to pass. I didn't for some time, but after a while, you just see there's nothing you can really do about it and you might as well get the points. There's no real way to police it. If it's not some damn dancing cat or some strawberry with an item on its face giving some long diatribe in Speakonia, it'll be something else. I think that whoever chooses Turd or Underdog should pick something besides those things. Maybe after a while, their membership will dwindle and we can start removing their bad submissions from the portal. But there is a reverse to that coin, groups like Kitty Krew, for instance, help give users protection points as well as opportunities for whistle upgrade. A lot of people review KK stuff with misspelled, ignorant, capslocked remarks. While we may not enjoy their flash (I actually find some of them to be a good. They leak out a good one every now and then), they do give us protection and whistle points. I'd much rather see the portal operated fairly, but obviously that can't happen, so we might as get some use out of it ourselves.

Indeed. Groups like that serve an important place in the Newgrounds circle of life. By attracting abusive reviews, they give many whistle points to the public...of course, at the cost of a lot of idiocy.

However, there are some important things to remember about 'spam-groups.'

1) This is the internet. A KK/UU/whatever flash passing is not the end of the world.

2) You're never going to have to see their flashes again once they pass.

3) This is important...never assume that just because it will likely pass that that means you need to vote 2-5 on it. If you don't like it, go ahead and zero it. Sure, you'll likely miss a lot of protects...but so what? You can get to EGSC without compromising your e-principles. I'd know, because I did it.

And 4, which I embrace...4) Do not assume that a flash needs to be super-graphically-good or serious to be good. Hell, there are KK flashes I vote 5 on in good conscience, because I find them funny. I embrace a larger, more open view of 'quality' than comparing every UJ flash to the top 50.

You're trespassing into dangerous territory here- in the Barracks we support voting fairly, not being stat whores who will pass something just because they know it will get through, whether it deserves it or not. The reason bad flash passes is because a lot of people think like that- they may as well give it a 2 and get the points, as there is nothing else they can do to stop it. Wade made a similar statement in General a few months back in fact.

You should always vote as the flash deserves. If it then goes on to pass and you voted to blam, so be it. The more people who vote fairly the less often that will happen. Losing a few points here and there really shouldn't be a problem.

There's no real way to police it. If it's not some damn dancing cat or some strawberry with an item on its face giving some long diatribe in Speakonia, it'll be something else. I think that whoever chooses Turd or Underdog should pick something besides those things.

It isn't a case of choosing- the flash that get the awards are automated based on score/reviews. I miss the days when non spam submissions got those awards though- some of the funniest movies on NG used to win Turd of the week.

Maybe after a while, their membership will dwindle and we can start removing their bad submissions from the portal. But there is a reverse to that coin, groups like Kitty Krew, for instance, help give users protection points as well as opportunities for whistle upgrade. I'd much rather see the portal operated fairly, but obviously that can't happen, so we might as get some use out of it ourselves.

I'm not sure I see how increasing the number of abusive reviews on the site is a good thing- again it isn't about getting points, it is about clearing up offensive comments that have no place on a site designed to encourage new animators and flash artists. You are right that a few KK flashes are good though- that is why you should watch every submission and vote fairly. Just as many people see a KK logo at the start and hit 0 as KK members see the logo and hit 5.

The Portal can operate fairly if everyone tries to vote fairly as they are supposed to. Obviously that will never happen with all the groups around, but that is no excuse to add to the problem for the sake of a few extra points.

Don't they know that might be the one vote that helps blam it? That's just fucking crazy, that's it I'm not gonna do that... ever.

Unfortunately, since I'm too lazy to implement them, I am also too lazy to remember most of my ideas. Although, I do remember one idea that required chains, a flat surface, a stereo, and a tape with the song Barbie Girl by Aqua.

Other than that, I can't remember anything else.

But being stat whores are a terrible thing. If everyone voted fairly, I don't care how many level 30 Elite Guard Supreme Commanders vote on the flash, there will be enough people who vote honestly to blam the flash.

Some times though, there are some good flashes by those crews, and the real spam comes from the noobs who say their part of Group X, when their not and just want to get a flash passed and/or make the group look bad.

Indeed. That was a major problem with the Barney Bunch...as time went on, the leadership of the group was trying to stick to funny, unusual-humor flash...however, many new members, and mere wannabe morons, kept making the rule-breaking flashes (the pop-up and crashing kind) that gave the BB such a fearsome reputation.

Where is PenguinLink? I finished cleaning...finally...

Blams: 1594 (+24 since last log)
Saves: 2955 (+46 since last log)
Total B/P points: 4549
Total B/P points acquired today: 70
B/P Badge: Elite Guard Staff Sergeant (451 until next grade)
Avg. B/P Points per day: 40.682
B/P Rank: #816 (+14 move since last log)
Protect/Blam Ratio: 1.85528756957

Ever since I got about 60 blams from that Barney Bunch spam attack, my protect ratio hasn't gone above 2 yet...I want it to be at least 3...

I have testing this week! >_<

Other then that...the portal was slow today...then it sped up, then slowed down, then sped up again...

Really nice, time for me to leave...see ya!

Yeah, I realise that, and I was pointing out the Barracks policy :). I'm sure all of us have been tempted to give submissions undeserving marks on occasion, whether it be to gain some extra points, or to help out a friend get his/her submission to pass, but we need to spread a message of fairness and stop bad submissions from getting through (yes, I have been approached by far too many religious pamphlet pushers :D).

Some of their flash is genuinely funny, and as Slash said there is a place for submissions of with poor graphics/animation/audio so long as they are entertaining for other reasons. But a lot of their submissions are nothing more than spam (although I suspect much of that comes from unofficial members rather than the main group).

I'm not sure where PenguinLink is- probably writing a long ass post again, in which you will get an official welcome, or be rejected, according to his judgement. As such I'll leave it to him.

BUT

You have some bad posting habits that you will need to shake if you are going to fit in around here. This goes for all the new members - we DO NOT like one line posts, and over the last couple of pages a few of you have been guilty of this. If you don't have anything more to say then wait until you do.

I'm afraid no such rank exists, although maybe it should! As it is the B/P ranks could do with being updated with the rest of the site in my opinion, as many of the badges are kind of boring/repetitive.

And the quote is from Full Metal Jacket- where's my cookie? :D

I don't know why but when I try to register for NG log it says that the name and profile ID don't match, and I put in the right id, why won't it work? It's a real problem for me.

I made a sort of redesign to your character Slash, I made it in Flash but I had to edit it in paint, the suckiest program on the face of the planet, but then again that's how I made my new profile pic. but anyway here it is.

I know that discussion has happened a jillion times, but yeah, we could totally go for some new badges. I have no clue what the ranks would be called, since there's really nothing higher than Supreme Commander (you'd probably have to make it like, Samuel L. Jackson rank or something...)...but I think it'd be awesome if the final rank was at 100k B/P (which only a couple people have), with a Vote Power boost of 100%. It'd make sense, as B/P'ing is just as difficult as depositing...it's just a different kind of dedication.

Not to mention that with depositing, hell, you could get up to level 20 and watch the same 5 flash a jillion times...that doesn't really show any special knowledge of the site and its standards. B/P'ers have to be on the front lines, dealing with lots of crappy flash and potentially computer-killing spam...so I'd say we have just as much of a right to a max base VP of 10.00 as a Level 30 user, if we get 100000 B/P, heh.

Paint indeed sucks, but it's okay, cuz that pic owns! :-D Realistic-looking Slash is a bad motherfucker, hehe.

Speaking of sexy, my ramagi flash will be submitted tomorrow; I'm too tired to work on flash right now...if I try, it'll fail horribly, and I don't want to let the Blam Queen down.

So, I'm hitting the hay. G'night everyone! :salute:
