Hello, Barracks!

Eagle here just to give everyone a quick note about the EGB Forums. They were down yesterday for a bit because I was revamping my web server quite a bit. I had to do a bunch of cleanup on the back-end, but the site is running smoother than ever! Just note, however, that some of your bookmarks and links might not work. Whereas before I was using all these crazy redirects and stuff to host the site, now I'm hosting directly on the default HTML port. From now on, you can use the following URL to get to the forums:

http://egb.eagleworld.net

Also, since the website had to be moved (logically, not physically), the cookies are now different. So if you had your account automatically log in, you will need to log in again. Sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused, but I think it should be much better for everyone.

Anyway, if you are having any trouble with the Forums, please let me know and I'll do what I can to help. Thanks!

Does that include the lovely bots that keep adding bogus entries to the Barracks Recruitment Desk? We're getting 4-6 a day. Any way you can tighten that up?

The only real trouble I'm having is missing you and your witty banter. :) You've been away for quite some time - please don't wait so long to check in again, ok?

Good to hear from you again, sir. Does this mean we have to clear out all of the equipment we "found" and stored in your office? I am fairly certain most of it wasn't stolen... And, no, IBM won't miss that old prototype "Watson" system we "acquired" a few months ago (that's the big silver and blue humming box we installed the old bomb shelter under your office. It's glitchy as Hell...it's trying to learn and adapt, but it keeps answering every query in the form of a question. It also calls everyone "Alex". I'm working on the code now (actually, I'm working on getting into the code now - damn proprietary AI!) but if all goes well I think I can make it learn what flashes should be passed and what should be tanked, and let it monitor the front lines with it's own automated blam rifle.

Or, we can turn it into the world's fastest game server...we'll see.

I think it was deleted before already. Hard to tell as these mario bike shovelware games are so rare.

Slideshow made with Windows Slideshow Maker. He tried to submit a story via the author comments. The "animation" was just a front. NG Rules: "Do not submit pictures in a slide show format with no interactivity." I sent him a message as to where in the Forums he can post his story so he knows what to do now, but this is just a slideshow.

I think The Clock Crew are doing some sort of multi day, half arsed flood of the portal. I've seen somethings be mentioned on users newsposts and there does appear to be a lot more of them out of recently. Probably sort that blam save ratio out a bit, me thinks.

Yeah. It's the February Flash Flood, where they 'flood the Portal with flashes for 28 days' and lay on a heavy dose of site degrading flashes for the month.

Maybe this will grab people's attention so they will start voting like they have a brain stem.

Things like this Flash Flood have really hurt Newgrounds. New people come in and don't know that's not the quality stuff that should be here. They see it as "normal, 'Everything By Everyone'" and they vote it thru instead of blamming it. I miss the animations for Blam, Protect, and Blowing the Whistle. They made the site fun, and I really think the content quality has suffered since they went away.

It's not about liking - it's about following a few rules to prevent utter chaos - or possibly lawsuits. We like to see original work, something with a little effort. But stolen flashes, or flashes that link to malicious websites, or jam your printer, or are racist or pedophilic really do not belong here - or in any public forum. Think of it as a large street fair, with a minor police presence. People can get away with a lot, but there are some things just not socially acceptable (thievery, public indecency, inciting a riot, et al.)

I'm not one for authority, but for the sake of common decency, I do support the basic rules of society here. If you are new to flash or a seasoned export, show us what you can do - don't copy someone else, be original. And if you want to gauge if you're doing the right thing, just think of it this way: what would my parents say if they saw my work?

Someone has to keep the balance - and that would be us, along with the Portal Mods.

You have the right to submit whatever you want - and we have the right to judge it as fit and proper for the site. Everyone does, actually - but we're just a bit more organized than most.

It really isn't anything personal - it's just a matter of keeping the peace.

EagleRock grand to see you post here sir! I was looking on the posts and saw you had just left a message, happy new year by the way! So the Clock crew was on the portal shame I missed that I love the CC. Flash Flood February sounds right for this month, but I don't like them flooding the portal or breaking rules. I want all flashes to have a fair chance. I still miss TOTW even a year after it was removed.

I know what you mean, although it was sometimes lusted after by some producers of utter crap I think it was a valid trophy and it's a shame that it went. Was always a bit of a confidence boost too.
