Well, it took Turd of the Week, but at least the other awards were legit this time.

I'd like to remind all Barracks members that blammed flash, resubmitted without improvement, IS a whistle-worthy offense. Flash rarely gets flagged for being a resubmit, but it is something to keep in mind if the problem worsens.

He may just be a friend of the submitters of those flashes, but a little observation wouldn't hurt. Keep an eye on him, and if you've got strong reason to suspect he's someone's alt, send that info along to a review mod.

In other news, I've made another "public service announcement" news post, since the last one was quite well received. The new topic is one that the Elite Guard Barracks has dealt with on numerous occasions---why mass voting is always wrong, regardless of what you're mass voting against. Next time I see a "anti-spam club" made in the C+C, I'll have something convenient to link them to.

It's not breaking any rules, as far as I can tell. The intro was okay, and while the flash itself was one frame of shit, that doesn't make it whistle-worthy or anything. Far more effort put into this than most groups bother with.

If they get off the ground and start fileswapping or stealing awards or something, then there'd be a problem, but right now it's just in the "not exactly good but not hurting anybody" category that most spam falls into.

I mainly wanted to point out that there's a new spam group. So we can watch it and if necessary help getting rid of it as fast as possible ;)

Hi guys, I'm not sure if some of you remember of me, but I used to be a member of this club several months ago and I left for crappy reasons... I have a pleasant recollection of the club and the members and, honestly, I miss the EGB. So I'm back with good resolutions and I would like to rejoin :). I'm a Staff Sergeant, Level 23 and I have a Deity Whistle.

I always feel disorientated when the header or the layout changes, I liked the Tank Awards one - my sig is based on it :). But I found a way to choose the header or the layout you want if you have Firefox. Download Newgrounds Navigate Plus, it's a Firefox plug in that allows you to change the Newgrounds theme, the header or the text colour. It also contains a lot of useful NG links and stuff, I really like it.

I read your latest news post SlashFirestorm and I 100% agree with you sadly you will maybe never stop the statwhores from voting 5 on every flash. I hate when they pass mass voting is disgusting as you say abusing the portal and breaking all the rules. I'm not against all spam I liked some of The Kitty Krew stuff before there sad demise, they were funny and I thought produced some funny flash. Sadly all the spammers now are just poor copies of the older ones. I think I recall The Barney Bunch they were quite funny did they get deleted? I'm sure they were around late 2006. I did gain 2 blams today so maybe it was from the deleted flashes. I voted on the forum for SonOfKirk to come back. I may write a review for TOTW before it gets deleted. Do you think the other authors are his alts?

Glad you liked it. I'll be doing similar posts whenever other issues are in the spotlight. I made the recent mass voting PSA because I've been trying to explain fair B/P'ing to a group of new users who tried to form a "Portal Crusaders" club, founded on incorrect assumptions about the Portal (such as the common assumption that passed flash can be blammed if their scores drop enough) and mass voting. The Barney Bunch fell apart mainly due to disinterest. The people who submitted rulebreaking stuff---malicious flash and fileswaps---they weren't part of the actual Barney Bunch, and were booted if discovered to be doing such. Most members just made secret episodes and other fun flash, most of which was blammed (though I've still got a couple of my BB flashes authored to my main account; most were on an alt). Anyway, time went by, a lot of people got bored with it (and annoyed that we were continually blamed for things we weren't behind) and the BB faded away.

Considering how, as you said, most spam groups today are stale repeats of older groups, I wouldn't mind a Barney Bunch revival someday...heh.

ANYhow, couple bits of Barracks news. Firstly, the discussion period on FurryFox has ended, and the decision was that he is not yet ready for the Barracks, though he may apply again in the future if he feels that he's improved. Discussion on sonofkirk continues, and while the results are so one-sided that I could decide now, I'll let it go the full 24 hours just to be safe.

I'm doing a little spring cleaning on the EGB forums. While they're not meant to be as active as most 'dedicated' forums, I'll be starting a lot of forum-based projects, some new and some reboots of older ideas. The Review Challenge, the State of the Portal, and the Whistle Improvement Project are among the concepts I want to retool.

I'd rather be a scrub than a stat whore.

Hey do you guys have the link to see where youd be at had you deposited every day? Id have to be up there with the best of them after 8 years of activity, at least in the late lvl 30's-early lvl 40's by now, cus ive seen kids with higher lvls than me that signed on in like 2005.

I thought I'd do it next month, but all the tinkering with the forums got me in a Newgroundsy mood, and I sent out the Barracks Rollcall PM's. Reply as soon as you can, and reply over PM, not here. The reason I do this over PM instead of the thread itself is so I have a nice, easy record of the results.

If you didn't receive a PM from me, inform me as soon as possible so I can send it out to you.

And damn, I wish you could send PM's to multiple people at once. Sending messages to each and every EGB member, one at a time, took a while.

You just need to Copy-Paste but I can see it can be troubling over a large amount of recipients.

Speaking of which, the portal is a little slow, but the medal system is boosting up at least 3 well known games ( I kind of suck at them but it's a new reason to be a stat whore ).

If you'd have deposited every day since you signed up, you'd be almost Level 50. I've missed 6 deposits in total and I've just reached Level 41

Just do a google search for nglog and you'll find what you're after - I can't be arsed right now.

Good to hear, I read some information about the Whistle Improvement Project in the EGB's private forums. I know it was pretty old but I noticed quite a few people reached a higher whistle rank, that's good to see and hopefully more people will have their whistle level raised when that project is retooled. Though, Rage's thread got locked, will the progress of the Whistle Improvement Project be affected from it?

Also I noticed the self-quoting system doesn't work, sometimes. Here is an example, it also happened with one of my post back in the days. Does it happen with you guys?

Most of the missed deposits I have came from technical problems with my computer, especially from the first few years after I sign in.

I missed lots of deposits over the two and half years absence I would have been the same level as you Coop83, with 18480 EXP and you would be Level 41. The Sledge Hammer would have been my current level. I wish I had not been away so long then still I chuffed with my level now, I think I'm getting there. I did a link to NGLog. I worked before redesign I would have been only level 14 and had the crummy Sewer Pipe which is now level 20 icon. I wish I knew what the old weapons were called any idea? I would love to know some of them.

That reminds me, some of you guys are here toward the end of Xito's reign of terror, I'm sure you'll get this one.

Couple things.

First, I've gotten caught up on all of the rollcall responses so far. Anyone who answered the rollcall should have received a confirmation PM from me and find their names on this list in the appropriate category. Let me know if there are any discrepancies.

I'm glad that I got so many responses in such a short time. I'll be waiting a week before declaring members AWOL, so anyone who hasn't replied yet has plenty of time.

Next order of business: by unanimous decision (and a new record of "strongly endorse" votes), sonofkirk is re-admitted to the Barracks. Welcome back! I've re-validated your account on the forums, so you have the same access everyone else does.

My ultimate goal is to have everyone in the EGB with a Deity Whistle, so we're nigh-unstoppable with flagging stolen flash and the like. I've considered setting a stronger whistle requirement for EGB membership---like Bronze or maybe Silver, instead of just "not Garbage"---but I'm not sure. Maybe I'll make a poll about it in the forums when I get some time.

We have our own version of Rage's thread on our forums, and since it's on our forums instead of Newgrounds, it's much easier to keep it neat. I've set rules for posting links to avoid making a mess or confusing people, and we can edit or delete posts/links once the abuse is gone. Right now the thread is empty, so if anyone finds a lot of abusive, post it at the forums! Be sure to follow the rules for linking, though.

On that note...

All Barracks members can go to this thread to vote on whether they think the current "Normal or better" whistle requirement is good enough, or if they'd rather have the minimum whistle level (and, if so, to Bronze, Silver, or Gold).

Ain't no time limit to this, and it's really more to gauge the opinion of Barracks members than to set new policy. If the results swing hard one way or the other, though, I may go ahead and change the recruitment requirements.

Ah, it would seem that you didn't PM me about it, probably because you sent the PMs before I re-applied or when I was still "under-judgment" in the EGB forum. Well, I think it's a good idea to rise up a bit the whistle level requirement for applying, it would allow us to know if the user who is applying knows what is flagging and how to flag flashes and reviews correctly. Therefore, I'd propose to rise the whistle requirement to Bronze. Rising it to Silver would be a bit demanding, I think. I'll take the poll and post in the appropriate thread right now.

I didn't know about that thread, I'm glad you told me about it. I was missing posting abusive reviews in the Rage's thread so I'll be sure to post my finds there.

Hello there! I'm the Barracks Recruitment Officer, Supreme Commander Slash Firestorm. While I'm glad to see your interest in the Elite Guard Barracks, I must regretfully inform you that you do not meet the admissions requirements.

To be considered for the Elite Guard Barracks, you must be of Private rank or higher (2500+ B/P), and have an intact whistle (Normal or higher).

Anyone over the rank of Security Guard (400+ B/P) can apply to the Newgrounds Police Headquarters, where they can work on their B/P'ing, whistling, and other skills until they reach Private.

Silver sound good to me, when you have only a normal it means that you really have not used your whistle at all and would have a higher rate of flagging the wrong things since they don't use there whistle much. bronze is a good start but it really does not take more that a few days at best to achieve it. I can recall when i had the garbage whistle i got my self from there to bronze in only a day and then back down again, it was a long battle to get the top one but i helped out so much.

I would like to see the recruitment requirements be more strict because as of late i've seen so meny people get on to this list. I'm not saying they don't deserve to be on the list, but there ahve so mey new members in the past months that after a few weeks go inactive and never come back.
