On CBC tonight I've seen that the bill has been drafted for the decriminalization of marijuana in Canada. It will be brought up in the House of Commons(Canada's "House of Representatives") next year. It is strongly expected it will pass.
Decriminalization is not legalization though. Decriminalization simply means you will be able to possess and use small amounts of Marijuana.

yeah i heard bout the awhile ago that they were planning on drafting a bill for it. I doubt it will pass pot won't be decrimilized for at least another 5 years it's to soon. The goverment won't until it has a surefire way to make money off it. The other reason it won't is because of americans "war on drugs" if we decrimilze pot our relations with the states will be VERY VERY strained

Saw the story on the news again, the bill will be ready for early next year. This is not the senate's report, this is an actauly bill that will be passed.
It will allow the the possession of up to 30 grams(an ounce) of Marijuana. Possesion will result in a fine but no criminal charge.
THIS WILL BE A REALITY EARLY NEXT YEAR.

No, it won't. It will prove that Canada is more enlightened than the US.

For "medicinal" purposes, and by the time the government realizes how many people want it, it will be taxed to hell.

pot will still not be a legal substance until americas war on drugs is over. Canadain politicans do not want to get on the states bad side at this point in time and legalizing pot would be a great way NOT to stay on there good side.

No! This is not just for medical use, this is decriminalization, making it an un-arrestable offence. Only fines and no criminal record.
FUCK don't you people listen. Decriminalization, for any person in Canada, 30 grams and under(30 grams is a fucking ounce).
Get it?

it's not decrimlization for ANYONE you still have to be over 18 to ahve it, you also won't be able to sell or buy it, and u talk as if it's guarnteed to ahppen which it is not they still have to vote on it. Also teh torys (who are pushing for it) even admit it won't come into effect until around 2005 if it is passed

Ok, how can there be a 4 year delay after it's passed. There's no process of implementation, it just changes a written rule, that's all.
It will pass, easily. The Canadian government would be stupid not to. It's a foot in the door for pot lobbyists, a very large foot in the door. Regardless of the War on Drugs (except alcohol, nicotine and caffeine), Canada will be legalizing pot eventually. Especially if Chretien stays in the Prime Minister's office. Unlike some past Prime Ministers, he's not obsessed with kissing America's ass.
How could America say anything about it anyway? Their currently President is a past drug user.

you know what. Fuck America! they're aledged "war on drugs" has been going on for over 20 years now. There is no way the country can control it. The war on drugs is just an excuse to issue unjust search warrants and tax citizens in the name of federal security. And maybe someone needs to be a leader and shut those right wingers up. Jean Cretcian will go down in history as the first Canadian Prime Minister to challenge the USA in policy. We're an independent nation and can create laws with no American influence, or at least it shoudl be that way.

And NO it's not a guarntee that it will be legalized do u know how many times they've tried to do this?? and btw were in poltics forum try to keep up to date, Chretien already said he was stepping and down and he does care about kissing the presidents ass cause he is doing it right now. Also there have been canada presidents to stand up to the states, ever heard of a guy called trudeau
