Well they did cover Wu-Tang Clan's "shame" and Shavo does keep in contact with Wu-Tangs RZA and GZA. But they aren't nu-metal. they are what ever they think they are. SOAD is awesome.

I listened to about four SOAD songs and I found them to be mediocre. They might be not exactly nu metal, but they're still kinda sucky. I just don't see anythign special. And turntables don't exactly make a mallcore band. It's the fact that the listeners are just mostly people who get all their music from the mall, and get their musical interests spoonfed to them.

like ghoul said. turntables and rapping do not make a mallcore band. it is although nu-metal.

soad is deeply overrated. all of there songs tend to fallow the same formula. and they try really hard to give themselves this rebel apearence by singing songs about "important government issues" when the people that listen to it dont really understand it, nor is what there singing about important. lyric wise its the same thing as shitty 60s hippie music.

music wise there not great. there isnt really any great member in the band. there all very mediocre.

SoaD isn't particularly bad. They also aren't particularly good. Nu-Metal is anything that came about in the Slipknot/KoRn era (no we're not still living in it, quit the crack) So yes, I agree with your conclusion that System of a Down, at least on their last two CD's, are not nü-metal.
