Anybody listen to any Area-7? They're an Australian band. I have a few songs, but I'm trying to find some of their cds.

Their official site is here, but there's no music up there. I'll post some mp3s a little later.

Harts Valentine IV is coming along, but it's going wicked slow since I'm working full time and Chris has finals. Plus, we still have to record Steve and Pauls lines. But it's totally happening!

We're aiming to get it done by late May/ early June. My goal is to make it better than Waterman 8 in every possible manner.

I'm not letting this thread die without a fight.

Anyone listen to The Slackers? I saw them a week ago in Boston with The Phenomenauts. All in all an awesome show, but I'm not really familiar with their music. Any cd recommendations?

To be honest, I've never met anyone who hated the Aquabats. Usually people either love them, love their old stuff, or have never heard of them.

What would to recommend by Five Iron Frenzy?

Five Iron is good, but I like the Aquabats a lot more. Their Fury of the Aquabats gets me everytime. I've heard worse ska bands.

I keep looking for new music, but I always end up listening to Big D over and over again. I can't help it.

On the subject of controversial/shocking announcements, I'm not into Streetlight Manifesto at all. Everything Goes Numb isn't bad, but nothing really hooks me and I end up getting sick of it after a while. I always feel like I'm missing something because everybody plays it up like it's the second coming of Ska Jesus. Also I prefer original Keasbey, although my favorite Catch 22 cd is Alone in a Crowd.

I actually don't like Catch 22 after they lost Thomas they went downhill. Streetlight Manifesto is much better in my opinion.

Totally, although I heard some bad stuff about their version of Keasby, I've only heard everything went numb but its like the perfect album.

They still sound great to me, The only thing I dont like about streetlight is that they take too long to release an album.

Either way Tomas is an amazing songwriter.

Hey folks, I'm slowly getting into ska. So far I have six songs by Catch 22 from Keasby Nights and Streetlight Manifesto's Everything Goes Numb.

I'm going to get The Special's first album sometime soon (read: when I get money) and my friend might burn me more ska.

Thats fine, the thing is of all ska artists Tom has to be the best song writer, Tom experiments with all his instruments and puts a lot of good effort into his songs, while bigger bands like Reel Big Fish joke around a lot. That is funny though Ska Jesus, I hope someone makes that their band name some day haha.

6 songs all together? you should just buy both albums, theyre amazing. Read the first few pages and posts for some other ska bands to look out for too.

Theyre not like the ska you know, so im not sure if you'll like them the first time around.

After one of their shows, I cant remember what show it is or when but the day after that, which should be before july, also BOTAR's album comes out after that too.

Ska is awsome, best is rbf and the mulligans, which are on this site and only submitted one song, but they have more on their myspace. Ska is awsome, and it is good to see so many people like it, I asked people at my school if they liked reelbigfish and they didnt even know what ska was.

Hullo rudies, skins, mods, and surfers and whatevers you are.

What does everyone think of a bit of the old 50's and 60's trad/roots ska? The original jamaican stuff?
What about two tone (specials, the selecter, bad manners)?

I noticed you're mostly talking about 90's to today US ska. Not a huge fan of the american ska I've heard, and only two of the hundreds of songs on my 'ska' playlist are by americans (sell out by RBF and I can't Wait by Hepcat).

I personally am a fan of very early ska recordings, two tone and current UK ska (unfortuneately, it's hard to get hold of recordings of UK ska)
Just wundrin' if any of you apreciate ska from the west indies and UK.

Anyone intrested in links to songs by ska bands I like in exchange for links to your fav bands?

Lol, watch the fat skinhead dance.

I dont know much roots/two tone outside of The Skatalites, Toots and the Maytals, The Specials and Madness. All great bands though.

If you're a fan of trad ska, check out The Slackers, Westbound Train and The Planet Smashers (they're canadian, close enough)

Bomb the Music Industry! is pretty cool. I guess punk ska is third wave and by some 2Tone? Anyone else but me not see if 2Tone was "punk ska" then it would be just older third wave?

2 tone's roots are closer to traditional ska than actual punk, third wave added more pop-punk into the ska.

Agreed. Check out this vid of madness if you have any doubts of their greatness. Skatalites rule. Check out Derrick Harriot, and anything Don Drummond.
Check out some Selector, too, and definitely the English Beat.

Slackers are quite cool. If I have some money left over after getting stuff that I want at the moment, i might get a record. Recommend a particular one?
I have to hand it to Westbound Train, Please Forgive Me is a good song.
Planetsmashers aren't bad either too. Might downlaod them trackz.

Hmm, not really my thing. The guitar sounds a bit heavy for my liking. 'suppose I've only heard 4 of their tracks so it's not fair for me to make a judgement.
As well as those mentioned above, check out http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti on=user.viewprofile&friendID=6688871, The Dualers and the BiG.

Awesome video.

There's more of the fat man (Buster Bloodvessel) and his band Bad Manners on you tub.

Oh, and, do you know of the Aggrolites? Good dub if you're a fan of that sort of thang.
