Who can guess how many issues we've had in the past 24 hours? 1?...No. 2?...Getting warmer. 3? Bingo! Oh, wait, D'oh! :(
Issue the first: Around 10pm or so last night, our fileserver went offline unexpectedly for the first time, well, ever. Remotely bouncing the power brought it back up rather quickly and the site was online again in about 10 minutes. I'm not quite sure what caused this, although my best guess would be a kernel panic having to do with the newer kernel necessitated by the recent memory upgrade. Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on this.
Issue the second: We had planned to upgrade the internal switch to gigabit on all ports early this morning as well as make some housekeeping type updates to a few of the servers. This actually went just as planned with the site coming back online after about 30 minutes or so. However, after about 30 minutes of smooth running, the real problem began.
Issue the third: As I'm sure many of you noticed, our internet provider, Cogent, had two separate fiber cuts around 10am today affecting traffic all across southern and northeastern U.S. It has taken them some time, but all of the traffic has been re-routed around the affected lines and NG should be available to all of our users as of around 3pm EST.
While there was little any of us could do about the Cogent issue, I'll still apologize for the downtime caused by all three incidences. As always we'll do our best to make sure these are few and far between.... well, at least fewer and farther between than the last 24 hours :)
