sorry for my multiple topics but I'm in a questioning mood :)
I know there are lots of articles on the web about this, but they're all written by old fogies who should have gotten a job 30 years ago, and they probably dont know what they're talking about. (no offence to those old fogies, ya gotta love em). I read about meta tags, but then read they were useless... What are some things you can do to increase your traffic, or more specifically increase your ranking on search engines?

put as many words as possible onto the page.
search engines only look for the phrase you enter in the text on the page so if you wrote the entire dictionary onto the bottom of your page you should come up for every search that didnt use boolean to get rid of words and limit the search more. but hardly anyone uses boolean.

Go to websites which submit your website for free to search engines. I found this one site that submitted my website to 1000 search engines. I get around 1000-2000 hits a day now.

I know of a few ways to increase traffic.
Mainly it depends on what type of site your running.
If you have a flash site, stick an inro animation linking to your site in any flashes you make.
If its a tutoiral site, submit your tuts to sites like pixel2life.
Template site? again, submit your templates to various sites.
You should also advertise your site in any forums you visit.
My newgrounds sig gets about 20-30 clicks a week.
You could also consider buying advertising space on various sites (=)) or using google adwords.
Just get your link out there, and the hits will come flowing in.

I increase my traffic by submitting my tutorials to sites such as good-tutorials.com and other large sites. Just get your links on as many sites as possible and when the google crawlers see it your site will show up more frequently on the search engine.

I know this is off-topic but relevant to your post.
How does that thing work? Is it just fake visitors? It just states that you can buy visitors.. but that doesn't make any sense. Are they real people or not? Are the people coming from ads or something?

Visitors-for-hire are trash. If you're not paying ~$3 cpm then you're getting shit traffic that'll never convert into anything except landing page hits by guys from Singapore.

2000 unique hits a day isn't bad at all. Especially if it's all coming from search engines....

To be exact: Yesterday my site got a little more hits then expected. 2503 (per IP) and 5091 (hits). And that is only from search engines.. I don't know how to find out how many people typed in www.steeped.tk into their browsers.

The one, and best way to get a lot of visitors is:
To release a Flash game with your intro, and links to your site in it. Make a high score table that can be found on your site, strategy guide that can be found on your site.
If it's a good game, the traffic will POUR in.
