What is greatness? To be better than others who can’t or won’t make it as far you have? Is it merely to be judged best of all? To be set higher in contrast to others? Is true greatness surpassing your fellow man, or is it offering your hand to help him up afterwards? To be great, must one be graded on a curb? Or is greatness something one must achieve regardless of the status of others? In a room full of people who can’t lift more than five pounds, the man who lifts ten is the strongest, but does lifting only ten pounds make him strong? In contrast to the others he is exceedingly strong, they may call him such, but truly he is weak judged on our standards. Strength must then be a thing blind to person, gender, and species. Is greatness the same? Is it a level one must achieve in disregard to averages, stereotypes, and other people? The strongest man on earth may be dreadfully weak on a scale that is higher than ours. Thus, is true greatness something no one has ever truly achieved; do we merely label the greatest “great”? Do we judge greatness based on the assumption that the greatest of all humans are the greatest of all; That since we know no other scale, ours reigns supreme? Do we think that being greater makes one great? Or is it something lived? Is greatness only achieved in striving for it, or can one only achieve it if he strives for something great? Is it the journey to greatness that makes a man great? Or is it his final destination? One man may strive for righteousness while another man strives for the power of evil, their journeys may be equally difficult, but does that make them equally great? Or Does a man’s want make him great?

Well, if this helps I can tell you what greatness isn't. "8 crazy nights", another movie about Adam Sandler beating up someone and making boobie jokes. Jesus H. Christ, what a crock.

Greatness is achieving your dreams, however questionable they may be. The real challenge is deciding what your dreams are, not getting there.

And the masses looked at me and chanted as one - "Great" and therefore making me reach greatness!!
Only joking, but good post. what is greatness?? Hard to say - perhaps it is as I just stated if people depict you as great in thier hearts and minds then maybe you are. Or mybe you are only great if it is in your heart or mind. Then again maybe greatness cannot be achieved by man, but only by nature and God.

When you look out upon the crowd,
and see those pathetic little faces,
they go about there daily lives, uncaring,
but when you look them in the eyes,
and see a little cry for mercy there,
not of fear,
but of humiliation,
when they know that you are smarter faster stronger wiser more creative
Better.
and though you have done nothing to them
and fight only for justice,
but they hide from you in cowering fear,
and this is of your towering figure,
be you big or small, strong or weak,
you scare them and they know they could never be like you,
and don't deserve it either,
in a fit of Glory, that is my dream of greatness,
a shallow and greedy dream, perhaps,
but...
that glinter in thine eyes!

what i'm looking for is an answer. i don't know what i need to ask, so i don't know what i don't know. there is something missing. what is true greatness? it doesn't just apply to greatness. it applies to strength, speed, intellegeny, beauty, anything. how do we define the pinnacle? you know how you can always go a little further, do a little more, or reach a little farther? what is the max?

everything that we do could be futile. everything we know to be true can be proven false tomorrow and there is no way to tell when.
todays truths could be tomorrows fiction. you never know what the greatest thing is untill you see it, and that may not even be the greatest thing the next day!
you don't know if i'm joking or not

i'n not talking about fleeting glory. i'm talking about unfading greatness. alexander the great conquored all of the known world once and cried when there was none left to overcome. his deeds are still remmembered as great, but remmemberance doesn't make that great. i'm sure we all remmember vanilla ice, 'nuff said.

I am familiar with the quest of greatness, as I have set for myself as an ultimate goal to become known to the world and future generations. But, so often in the quest for greatness, noone ever stops and asks "what is greatness?," instead, they always strive, blindly, to become better.
My definition of true greatness is being able to command respect and attention, especially without asking for it. Not only the notice of the present, but also the notice of posterity.
