Midi Keyboard Controller

I want to get a MIDI keyboard that when I press a key, it plays the instrument/synth key in Fruityloops and other applications that I use. Is this possible or am I misunderstanding the purpose of MIDI?

eg. Instead of using your mouse to play on the built-in keyboard on synths and instruments, I want to be able to use an external MIDI keyboard/controller that will allow me more precise control and multiple/sophisticated keys to be played at once (which is already implemented in Fruityloops but requires the use of a computer keyboard).

Please ask if I've made my question uncertain. Try respond as soon as possible. :) I'm looking to buy my MIDI today if it will serve that purpose.

In summary, just incase I can make myself more clearer, I want to be able to play notes on my MIDI keyboard which will play those notes on the instrument in Fruityloops, at real time.

Anything in the Edirol PCR series would suit your needs quite well.

You could probably pick up the old Edirol PCR-30 (silver one )quite cheaply on eBay or something. I've got one and it's a great little controller. Plus it has 8 midi assignable knobs, 8 midi assignable sliders, and a whole bunch of buttons. Plus pitch bend and modulation wheels.

I second that. The Edirol PCR-30 is a great controller - very easy to set up too. It will do exactly what you're looking for. That's what I use as well.

I bought a M-Audio Oxygen 8 (old version) wich serves my needs and purposes perfectly. I wanted something to just improvise on, and something other than the computer keyboard to use automations with. It is a 2 oct. keyboard, with mod-wheel, pitchbend wheel, 8 knobs to turn and program, and one data-entry slider.
