Dude, don't ask that, it will just piss people off. I just started flash and I could figure that one out on my own. They're action scripts, meaning... when you add an action to a frame so when certain events occur, things happen. You click Actions, or right click the frame and click it.. what ever then you add the scripts.

For those of you are the good action scriptors... great job, but because I'm so new I have huge problems with incerting them. I can get basic Stop and play stuff... as well as go and play actions, but i cant do any preloaders, i tried and just get confused lmao. anyway. peace

This is the best thread I've ever seen, for two reasons:

1. There is a TON of helpful stuff in here.

2. People are too lazy to actually read through the whole five pages, and keep asking the same questions, only to get reamed.

I'm going to do some reaming of my own, out of sheer boredom. READ THROUGH THE WHOLE FREAKING THREAD BEFORE POSTING A QUESTION!!! It's one thing not to know something, but when you're asking how to jump, or how to walk on the ground, for the eleventh time, it's kind of ridiculous. And this thread would only be half the size it is if you wouldn't keep reposting the same questions.

So read through everything. If what you need STILL isn't here, then post. Cheers.

Too much helpful stuff here to let it die. I wish we could get rid of half of the useless posts here, though, and just keep the info.

Thanks to all the posts here, plus a hell of a lot of scrounging the web for tutorials, I should have a primitive version of my game done tomorrow (hopefully). I'd still like to work with a programmer, but we'll see what people think of it tomorrow... it changed from the wolf guy to a contra/rambo style shooter, for now anyway.

Don't know, think I'm just going to call it "Wolfbane". There are so many things going wrong wiht it right now, might just be a cinematic introduction, and a little tidbit of something; I know people don't like betas, but I want to submit it before christmas, feeble as it is, and maybe when someone sees the artwork, they'll want to work on the programming.

Whatever frame the music is, click on Windows > Panels > Instance, then go to Sound and click on how many times you want it to loop.

hey great job posting all those useful stuff. I've already made a very basic super mario game :)

it's a shame all this useful information gets swamped out by people looking to know how to make a game in a single post.

it's just not that simple. I've only been studying actionscript for 2 days and I can already make a basic game, so please, have some patience newbies and if you don't have the I.Q. to understand that designing games takes A LOT OF WORK, then don't the time of those of us with reasonable intellect.

btw, for anyone whose read this far, the best place you can go to learn how these principles work in making a game, go to flashkit.com and look at the tutorials for games there.

lol... well-said. Remember, though, not everyone learns at the same pace, things come easier to some than others... blah blah blah.

I kind of like when people ask questions. Just bugs me when they ask them over and over again.

Ok thats cool, thanks alot man, but here's a stupid question. When I want to make and Movie Clip appear when i press the left click button, what would be the scriptting. Every time i do what I think it is, When i test the movie it just keeps playing the Movie Clip, do u know what i should do?

Here's what I used for that:

if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)){
this.gotoAndStop("walk");

That's for walking right, loading the movie clip "walk". I left out the rest of the commands for that key (so it would start the scrolling background when he got to a third of the screen), but that's how you load a clip.

Is there a way to tell the program after a certain period of time, points, or something, to end the level, so I can go to another scene/level/etc?

sorry for the double post. but anyway, to make a movieclip appear by left clicking, make a button. make the button's alpha 0%. right click the button, and edit. on the down part, make the object a movieclip. go to edit on the movieclip. on frame one, make the object into a graphic, and make alpha 100%. then, put the stop command on the frame.

*to change the alpha on a symbol, go to properties, and where color is, select the drop down menu, and then select alpha. then, change the alpha to the desired percent.
