Bass is not limited to the exact way that you happen to play it. There is nothing wrong with a 12 string bass, and there is nothing wrong with using a pick. Don't be such a bunch of elitist wankers.
Yes thank you!
Btw, most bassists that use their fingers play Punk/Ska/Funk/Jazz... Using a pick is perfectly acceptable...
Ok, fine, some bassists use a pick, they SHOULD use their fingers. That is the way it was meant to be played, plus it gives a better sound with the fingers. A deep melodic hum with the fingers, rather than a annoying clicking noise with a pick. but in this day and age it is acceptable to play with a pick, dont know why, it just is. Hell sometimes I even use a pick, if I have to.
Plus what I said about Paul McCartney, I like most of the Beatles Music, I do, but his bass lines are very easy, bit like Mark Hoppus'. Therefore he is obviously not all that good at the bass. I'm not mocking him, just saying he could have made his bass lines harder in order to make the music even better.
Also Most punk bands use picks for their music. Mainly because punk music is easy to play for both the guitaists. Therefore the bassist is a bit "uneducated" in the bass, therefore uses a pick due to the fact that it is easier, or they just like that type of sound given off by a pick.
Also to what SWiTCH said, a 12 string bass is to inconvenient to play, too hard, plus you will never use all of the strings anyways.
So in closing, sorry we got off on the wrong foot Superman, I was having a bad day
