Corruption greed and scandles are good for capitalist economy. The theory that determination will result in wealth with no government regulations keeps this countries economy afloat. It hurts small buisness but is good for overall buisnesses. You can be inventive, play the stock market right, or just plain get lucky and be rich for generations. Tax cuts are helpful because it gives entrapanuers a chance to set up large buisness and bring in huge income and have their buisnesses grow creating jobs.

Once again, you've come to the egalitarian conclusion that success = corruption.
Holy hell you're messed up. Go live on some postmodern commune with Das Kapital and your declination to do any work.
And leave us alone.

argue it thor instead of trying to play yourself off as cool by putting together high strung statements. I have no feelings to what i said was true i just simply posted it to see the arguement unfold. Arguement should be about learning and coming to a better understanding and hopefully a resolve. Pompus dicks like urself turn it into a testarone contest.

With no governmental intervention such as Child Labor Laws, minimum age, standard of health, etc--
You would see a relapse like Industrial Revolution.

Interesting you brought this up just as the Gomery Report has been released in Canada about the Sponsorship scandal involving several Liberal Party members including former PM Jean Chretien.
This report was hyped up a ton by the media and threatens to destroy an already fragile government. This kind of corruption is not good at all for Canada. In fact, another election could come as soon as Christmas and the last thing I want to see is Stephen Harper as Prime Minister, seeing as NDP leader Jack Layton doesn't seem to want to lend his support to Paul Martin this time.
Even ignoring the political implications, this report has cost millions in taxpayer dollars and for what? No criminal charges will be laid as a result. All that's been done is confirmed that Jean Chretien is a weasel, but we all knew that already after "Schawinigate".
Corruption and scandals might work in the US to make some people money, but not when it threatens to topple a needed government.

i think i agree with that statement if the government is needed then corruption would of course hurt the country. But i was specifically talking about its effects on a laize fair or a capitalist economy. Which the Us and canada are not.

What good is to have a prosperous economy if it only prospers the richest?
For poor people, they might as well take over a bad economy if it's the same!
Corruption is in no way good for a country.
Firstly, it inspires communism, which isn't good. Secondly, it brings a greater divide in our society and diverts the purposes of governments to fail to serve the people.
The government needs to be held in check, its purpose is to serve the people, giving away deals to companies and parties (groups of people) who are in interest of the politician and not of the people is indeed corruption and in no way brings forward constructive work.
We can see the works of corruption moving every day in China. Firstly, you'll get a minority of people who are very selfish and greedy at the top of society, while the majority of the working class is very poor and receives little service from its government and little enforcement of decent policies to benefit the welfare of the people.
In a super-conservative government you're only a person if you have money. Poor people are not considered people and deserve to starve to death.
Essentially, corruption is a direct result of major right wing and left wing ideals, which allow for more authoritarian control. This is why the system is built as it is. To allow for the common man to achieve any limit of power, run for office in government, earn money, and form unions, vote, etc...
With corruption any values that the Free World holds dear is suddenly dissolved. Free speech, the allowal to discuss the ideas of corruption (meaning, if the gov't were corrupt we wouldn't be having this discussion right now) and overall negative progress and tyranny for a nation.
So, in no way, is corruption good for a country.
I hate it when a lunatic comes along trying to make everyone prove the obvious in an attempt to make the utter stupid and illogical into a smart and logical idea.
Shut up, please.

Think of the bigger picture, corruption( lying cheating stealing, and the will to do whatever it takes to get your way) seems to bring success but, all that shit you did to be successful comes and back and bites you on the ass.
in short corruption=consequences

An idea with which to continue the debate:
In a system without corruption, would we then end with either a stagnation? Certainly it is impossible for all companies to be the top performer, so would we then have a set of corporations in their same positions?
Or would we then have an assembly-line economy of enterprises rising as the ideals of capitalism allow them all to succeed through hard work?
The idea is that corruption is necessary for them to step off the "assembly line" and take their company ahead of the game. Thoughts?

dammit thats the idea i was trying to portray in my topic. I need to get over this cold and back to persuasive writing 101!!! I just got served.
I think that a certain amount of corruption is necessary for a company to step off the "assembly line" . if not corruption greed which could go hand in hand. Take away invariables like luck and companys need those loopoles to get ahead of the curve.

Corruption is bad economically. It raises the costs of doing business, as in a corrupt country one cannot do business without paying off certain people. Bribery gets expensive, and that is why companies are very reluctant to invest into corrupt countries. The most successful countries, economically, are also the least corrupt.

You realize that for a company to become a giant, it must first start out as a small business and expand? The only "entrepreneurs" that could open up a large business in a totally corrupt business environment are those who already own the giant corrupt companies. Corruption in business helps no one but those who are at the head of the corruption itself. Everyone else is just taken advantage of.

Going to try and compare it with sports (I hope it will make it easier)
Using rugby as a model for society.
(Almost any sport might do, since it's just a comparison. I'm just more at home with rugby)
Corruption = trying to win a game by cheating
A referee (the Law) will not see everything that goes on into a game. Especially with Rugby, since it's all just a big mess. Chess is much easier to referee, though with fast chess cheating could occur.
Anyhow with rugby some people will try a lot of stuff in order to win. "As long as the referee doesn't see it, it's legal." These people are obviously very corrupt. In a response people from the other team will also try to punish people who cheat this much (take the law in their own hands). A lot of times though people just don't know the rules that well (rugby rules are plenty and can be very complicated). Though there are a few basic rules (amendments) that were set to be followed.
* The ball (money) needs to come into play as quickly as possible so we can get to play further. (money is round) The more the ball goes around, the more fun (well-being/wellfare) we have.
Downside to this, is people can get very tired. If played well, rugby can be a very tiring game.
Especially when played in the sand with few players. (Desert)
The players can become totally exhausted. (Depletion of natural recources)
One of the problems with rugby, is that you need a very good referee. He has a lot of power in the game. But because he has a lot of power, he can use it for the good of the game. If someone's bitching about his disicion, he can send that person off in the blink of an eye.
This results in players being very cooperative with the referee when playing the game. This results in the referee being able to concentrate better on the stuff he's doing.
However if you were able to get a referee that is not impartial (bribe), you're in trouble.
Thank god, it's mostly just a game, so that won't happen too often. People don't want to beat the other guy at all costs in order to win. They just want to play a fair game, so everybody wins. (Not becoming rich, because you don't want to be corrupt, resulting in the other being richer then you.)
However you could try everything in order to win. If the other team will do the same you will end up with a very nasty game/seison. (There will be so much corruption everybody will end up pretty poor. Though one group/person will end up with more money then the other(s))

Yes if you will look at wellfare figures (scoring a lot of trys), you will get the idea you're doing well. Corruption basicly is stealing stuff from someone. Well if we all keep stealing stuff from eachother it means money is on a roll.
If I steal 100K from you this year and you steal 100K from me, both of us will have had a raised income of 100K. Woot, we're rich! :D (in wellfare figures that will show, though it won't show in well-being figures. But you can't really measure well-being)
Translated to rugby:
You have a match were we all just keep scoring tries. We walk from one side to another letting the other score points. Both our teams will have a substantial amount of tries at the end of the seison. Which could result in one of us winning the title.
Problem is we botched up what could have been a great game. I don't enjoy walking from one end to another.
Also if other teams start using the same method it will be one dull game. Our wellfare (amount of goals) will have greatly increased. But our well-being (fun) will be greatly diminished.
