what is this actionscript thing? and what is it for?

Actionscript is something you put in the actions tab of your buttons - it's useful for making your movie interactive. It may be as easy as making a button in a frame lead the user to another frame or making the frame stop by itself.

In other words, Actionscript can be inserted in multiple frames when making a small comic. Its also the core of Flash gaming, a lot of Actionscript is involved in the games you play here. And it also makes a button work.

O yeah, by the way, every flash (with the exception of banners - they don't have to have any, but shouldn't be submitted 2 newgrounds either... but many people still submit them), even movies SHOULD have actionscripts, to have a preloader, and a "start movie" button.
