I would say most people can tell the difference, but I could be wrong.
America, United States of America, us of a, usa, us, United States, whichever you choose to call us is fine. I dont think any Americans really care which it is, it doesnt offend us nomatter which one you use anyway.

A) We're arrogant. We keep spouting off to our own people and other countries that we're the best country in the world. It's possible that it's true, but you just don't do that. Part of being the best means that you should be modest about it as well. Or else you're just a talented asshole and people are going to hate you. Not because their jealous, I could be jealous of someone for being better, but I won't hate them until they rub it in my face.
B) We're ignorant. We know little about our own history/politics and other countries' histories/politics. Example: There are still Americans that believe that we FOUND weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
C) We're irrational. We go to war without thinking about the consequences of going to war. We think that we're right and the opposing side is wrong when history has shown us that these things aren't necessarily always true (i.e. The Crusades, The Trail of Tears, Japanese Internment, WWII, The Holocaust... etc.).
D) We're hypocrites. We claim that every man is created equal when Black people used to be counted as three-fifths a human, we slaughtered Indians, we interned the Japanese Americans, we didn't integrate schools until 1960, and we still don't let homosexuals marry. So, really, it's every man according to society's fucked up view of how things should be.
There. Four reasons for why outside eyes may see us as assholes. Now, they don't live in this country, so their judgments are going to be a bit harsher. But everything I posted is fact, if I missed anything, please tell me.

Ha! You're funny. I wasn't just speaking in terms of America there. I was speaking in terms of the Nazis thinking they were right and the Japanese and Italians thinking they were right. Not to discriminate against the use of the atomic bomb which led to an age of fear and political corruption that is still going on today. But thanks for the laugh. I guess I needed to clarify what I meant.

They're all training us to be good workers and consumers, no matter what system you're in. George Carlin brought that up in his latest HBO special. It was hilarious. I recommend it to everyone with Cable programming.

That doesnt change the point whether it was 300 or 3000 years from now. If america is still a country in a 1000 years, chances are people are still going to know how it was formed.

As for people talking about countries being formed, most of them have been populated and had kings or warlords since before written history began (or rather, since before written history that we can find) so we don't really know how Scotland was formed (although we know that there were a whole load of small kingdoms when the Romans got here), you see?

People hate America because we are fat, stupid, wasteful, arrogant, militaristic, and an overall ethnocentric people.
fat- 33% (one third) of America's population of 20+ years, is overweight.
stupid- 1 in 4 Americans still believe that the Sun rotates around the Earth. When tested against other English-speaking countries, America is the worst speller. "No Child Left Behind" SOUNDS like a good idea, but all it does is kick the stupidest kids out of school, therefore raising the overall IQ of kids in schools across America. WE RE-ELECTED GEORGE BUSH!!!!!! Enough said.
Wasteful- America produces SO much food, that not even our fat asses can consume it all. Every year, hundreds of thousands pounds of American-grown grain is thrown into the sea. We pay our own farmers, not to farm, because we are making too much already. All this, while millions starve. Even here, in America, were 35 million people go hungry every day, 13 million of which, are homeless, helpless children. So, in reality, we are not making too much, but this perfectly viable food is being thrown away, every day. Restaurants have to thrown out food after a certain point, even though it is still practically fresh. We could feed the world. And for free too, since we were going to just throw it out anyway, might as well help someone with it. But no, we can't do that, because then the corporate assholes who actually run this country, would lose power to healthy working people.
arrogant and militaristic- Sanand's social studies teacher told him/her, that people hate us for our riches. Arrogance. We are NOT the richest political body in the world, the European Union is. If anything, they do hate us for blowing the mother loving shit out of every little scrap of land with an enemy on it. We are a relatively young country, yet we have already had 12 wars (counting Iraq and Afgahnistan as seperate wars). That's one war every 20 years. I must admit, though, that we are damn good at it :) lol
ethnocentric- American's like to think that they are superior to all other people's. Even I must admit to this from time to time, but I am overall accepting, and celebratory of other cultures.
This is why I want to go to the UK.
It's about time I head off to bed, so that's all (for now).
P.S. If you could understand ALL of the words in this post, most likely, you are not American.

Insanity-Projects, you summed it up pretty well without me. You know what I've noticed, though? The U. S. has a strange anti-fat sentiment considering how rampantly obesity runs through this country.
Obesity really isn't the result of how much you eat, either. What you eat, combined with your activity level, are far greater contributing factors.

I actually highly doubt that. I don't think there is an actual statistic to prove you wrong, I dont really think any one has done study on that. Any one that goes to school in america, even public, would know the earth revolves around the sun.

It's because the country in itself is completely ignorant and its continuing of trying to act like the sheriff of the world is getting on everyones nerves. Just to let you know, I am not an american hater, I am just posting on behalf of the people that do not post here.
You wouldn't mind me asking two questions, besides this one, would you? How nice is Australia? And do you, personally, like vegemite? I've heard that it's pretty big in Australia and I've tried it and I can't see how. Don't take offense. I was just wondering if you add something to it or if you use it with a lot of other things.

Why I dislike America..hmm..its gonna have to be extreme Ignorance of the world outside America. Most Americans don't even have a passport, which could explain why some Americans can't even locate their own country on a world map. Also butchering the English language and then saying the English, the inventors of the language, talk weird. Also when American try to re-write history such as the film
U-571 where they made out the Americans captured the enigma machine, when it was actually the Brtish. Americans also think they invented everything under the sun.
Worst of all:
"you know what guys, we saved your ass in the war"
American media only shows American contributions and you might get the odd token Brit or European. Not to mention the fact that American soldiers are so poorly trained. The rate of friendly fire from Americans is Terrible compared to most other county's.
Otherwise you Yanks aint so bad and I realise this is a sweeping generalisation, I'm sure there must be some smart Americans out there.

I really don't know why people hate us so much. Typically, the United States has been an isolationist country and has stayed out of world problems roughly up until Korean and Vietnam War time period. The country was really hesitant to get involved with the world wars and only did because we were attacked in the first place (WW1 the German U-boats blowing up american merchant vessels and WW2 Pearl Harbor) When we came out of the World Wars, we emerged as a new world power with revolutionary technology and a great number of resources. The U.S. quickly climbed to the top of power in the world. We have bases set up in countries all over the world, and we (with the exception of Britain, I believe) are the only country that does that. WE are greatly intertwined in the modern world and are taking great involvement in what goes on where. Most of the time, it's for the countries best interests, but how can you blame America for doing it? Why would/should a country waste money and resources and men on something that has no short or long term benefits? That is complete ludicrous. The U.S. still however keeps bases in various countries if the need ever arose that military action be taken, it could be done swiftly. And while these soldiers are stationed in these bases trying to keep some sort of peace around the world, these countries scream "Go home Yankee," and other various chants.
During Operation Desert Storm and the Gulf War, the Germans were more than anxious to push the American soldiers out of their country. But once they left, the Germans wished they would come back. The entire time the men were there, they were purchasing German products, in German stores, etc making the economy flourish. When the men left, the German economy started dropping and they wished that the soldiers would come back.
Today in Iraq, we have liberated an entire nation from the tyranny of a cruel dictator who would kill hundreds of Iraqis a day. Now, we are helping to rebuild their country and set up a stable government. And it's hard to say that the iraqi people did not enjoy the fact that they could now speak up because they had a bigger vote turnout for president than the U.S. in most states.
In Afghanistan, the U.S. is hunting a vile terrorist who murdered thousands of innocent civilians out of hate. And what was the hate from? As far as I could tell, the U.S. had done nothing significant to merit such an attack. I was too young to understand at teh time of the attacks but maybe now someone can enlighten me as to why it might have happened.
If anyone should hate America, it's Americans themselves. Big business go to OTHER countries to build their factories and production labs to get cheaper labor. Do I find it wrong that they do it because it's cheaper labor? Yes, I do. But it is also giving the people in these countries jobs where they can earn money and try to support themselves. Moving the companies to places like China is effectively taking jobs from Americans and just increasing our unemployment rate.
Hundreds of immigrants come to the U.S. from all over the world; the Middle East, China, Japan, Europe, Central America, South America...we are probably the most diverse country in the world. Then it really bothers me how I go out to Wal-Mart or some place like that and hear these immigrants complaining how horrible our country is. One woman was complaining how we should stop bombing her country and killing her countrymen. Well, to people like this, i say, "If you had been that outspoken while you were living where ever you came from, we might not be there bombing your 'countrymen' right now." They come here and gain all the benefits of being an American citizen, but hate our country at the same time.
The U.S. does so much for the world yet people get mad or angry because we hold so much power. It's not our fault that the North American Continent happened to be loaded with resources. That's just how it ended up. And since there here, we might as well use them. The argument could be brought up that the U.S. controls the world and uses other countries as "puppets," but this is a really ignorant arguement. Every country in the world tries to manipulate other countries for their own benefit. Countries like Britain, France, etc, and the U.S. all use their money to back a political candidate that would be for their country versus someone whos anti-french or british, etc.
I just dont know why the other countries hate us so much when we contribute to the world community so much.
