A yearbook costing $37.45? 2005-11-04 07:49:31

I remember when they were like $15 at most. This year, they're fucking $37.45 to order. If you want your name printed on it it's an extra $5.95. If you want any decals on it, they're $4.45 a piece!

Seriously, why are they ripping us off so much on this shit? It's not like I live in a big area, there are very few students at my school, they're just assholes.

Are this year's yearbooks hardcover? At my school they were 25.00 hardcover (it was the first year that the High School was open, so we got a special introductory price). This year, it is expected that a hardcover year book will be 35.00 (around the price of your school). Perhaps they are getting nice hardcovers this year...

Yes, they've always been hardcover. Even when I was back in grammar school and junior high I remember them being hardcover, all except one year when I was in the 3rd grade.

They're were never over $15, this just seems outrageous.

I don`t have yearbooks at my school (or antwhere in Ireland, for that matter)

What sort of stuff is in it, anyway?

Yea, that's a damn expensive yearbook.

I always loved getting my yearbooks and they are worth the money a few years later when you look through them and laugh, but they charge way too much. I definitely wouldn't get any decals put on. They wouldn't get any extra money out of me after charging that much.

Maybe the cover will be leatherbound. HAHA

Mine were always for free, but seeing as "production costs" have gone up, I have to pay 100 pounds (25 dinars in Kuwait) for one.

That's about the starting price at my school. They go up to around $60 as the year goes on.

My school decided to print the whole thing in color, so we are paying $56.00 for our year book. I really dont see wht it needs to be fullcolor though.

Gee whiz! Ours was $52.95, for mostly B&W! But then again, most of that stuff is expensive. The gowns, the hats, etc. All of it is more expensive than what it should be, because once the companies know that they've been contracted to do it for the school, you don't have anywhere you can purchase anything cheaper.

University textbooks, for 5 courses over one year (year = 2/3 of the calendar year) can cost you from 450 to 1000 dollars, Canadian, over here at Dalhousie. And they come out with "updated" editions every year or so. They charge you the 100+ dollars for Blahology, 4th edition whereas you can't even sell Blahology, 3rd edition for a thrid of the price. The differences in the editions can be as little as a new chapter and some format and colour changes. Oh, and the cover art.

I found a giant, thick, and incredibly resourceful Psycology book (1st edition) in a cardboard box labelled: FREE in my Student Union Building. The 2nd edition is in the bookstore for well over a hundred dollars. And the differences were minimal.

A lot of people do buy the second hand books and save a shitload of cash. The point is, this world loves to rip you off. Get used to it.

Thing is, printing and shit has gone up in price a shitload pretty steadily over the past couple years. There may have been a time when yearbooks weren't all that expensive, but now certainly isn't one of them. My High School yearbook cost me 55 bucks, 50 for the yearbook, and another 5 to have my name put on it. The only reason it didn't cost upwards of 100 was because we had a bunch of adspace sold in the book so that helped to offset the production costs of printing 400-500 100+ page hardcover yearbooks.

It's completely worth it though for the shits and giggles of looking into it a couple years down the road though and seeing how everyone was in HS and how stupid your haircut was or whatever. I also had quite the ridiculous memories written next to my picture for the senior yearbook, so I'm sure I'll be laughing at that in a couple years.

All in all, they aren't ripping you off, it just costs a lot to make them. But it's worth it anyway.

thankfully, the 365 students and teachers at my school don't have to pay for the 200 page yearbook, we get them for free :)
