no band has made music decline. it is the people that listen to the music that cause that

the year..well, in the late 90's. but it will come back up

first of all - there is no reason to disguise this topic?
thats just completly stupid.

but anywho.. music downloading is fine IF you pay 99c a track.

music has always been as low as it can get.. just occasionly has a spike when a goos song is released.. hardly ever.

I suppose now would be a bad time to come out of the musical closet and admit that I sort of like Abba?

Music went on a downward spiral during the mid 90's which it has never come up from.

Lets see, what ruined music was just MTV alone cause it played shit bands and singers who got over rated then people would not shut up about them. It was not just groups it was MTV.

Dire Straits mocked MTV with Money for Nothing but then MTV use it as the first music video played on MTV Europe which shows how stupid MTV is.

It's true.
While people blame bands like Backstreet Boys, etc., Madonna and ABBA were around long before these people plagued our media.

No one band can be blamed. The entire concept of getting through without talent that started in the 90s should be blamed

i think the early 90's was where you could first notice the decline in the music industry, well really notice it anyway. Hundreds of screaming teenagers crowding round the back door of a stadium to see 4 guys that really have no talent apart from gyrating on a stage whilst they mime to a song that's been doctored so much in a studio it sounds nothing like it did when they recorded it. thankfully things are picking up in britain again, lots of very good bands are appearing and knocking these fucking pop tarts out of the charts, its about damn time too

I`d have to say it was the late 90s, but I don`t really care that much anymore. Rather than look for something new, I look for older stuff that I`ve never heard before.
It`ll keep me satisfied until music picks up again, although recently I have heard some pretty good new bands.

it depends on what genre ur talking about. pop music suk when is was made, rock has been ruined with the overflow of crap punk bands, the only untainted section are jazz and classical which i dont mind now and then.

I think you mean pirating, downloading is perfectly fine if paid for...

Anyway, pirating isn't that bad. The song isn't a consumer product, it's just copied.
All it does is lower the sales, wich they can easily bring up with one lousy concert.
I don't pirate however, i like to support my fav artists..

okay that's kinda true bout the genre's, punk truly is an offset from rock but has become its own thing. And on the talent shows thats just like instant celebrity just add water and a camera. It is ruining the system of good music, the second the world hit the 80's the world was in a slump with ppl experimenting with everything musical wise, new wave came in and just fucking ruined everything and punk died and electronica started (i am a fan of electronica but sometimes it is terrible) to take over, stupid songs (safety dance, walk like an egyptian, 99 Lufy balloons) the world had lost its touch in music. Sad really sad, then the 90's any1 wanna add to my ramblings

New kids on the block, tiffany, britney spears.
Also, although I like Green day, they paved the road for other watered down versions of themselves... which is unfortunate.

I think the 90's are getting unfairly bashed in here... sure the late 90's were terrible but the early mid 90's were wonderfull... soundgarden, stone temple pilots, smashing pumpkins, nirvana, pearl jam, RHCP, rage against the machine and others... that period was so good... i find the 80's were pretty bad... yes there was some good music but there was some bad stuff aswell... and what about the disco era... i think that is the worst era of all!

Audioslave and Queens Of The Stone Age. if people think shit like that is good, something is severely wrong.

Can someone fill me in on the laws of file sharing. I currently think that its okay to download, because the sharer is commiting the crime - but not to upload a copyrighted file to someone else. Is this right? linkage to some legal stuff please

lol@people that only read the title of the thread and not the original post

Anyway, music started sucked in the 90s. More so about 94... when it became about either being really rich, or being horrible depressed. The 80s music was pretty bad, but at least it was all about the actual music back then.

The depressing music of Nirvana was probably a huge downfall on music as a whole. Although Nirvana are always going to be icons, the fact is, it was their talentless playing and bullshit "I hate myself" lyrics that spawned generations of kids who only know one chord on the guitar to become the next big "top seller".

I would also blame a lot of it on Metallica. They where the last true gods of metal and boy did they fall. Like everybody else, they're music got talentless, they sold their sound out to the highest bidder, they let their friends down, and on top of all of that... they're the ones that started the "don't download music because we need even more money" bullshit that's going on now. Not that I'm for piracy, but I do blame them for the start of the "Money is more imporant then the music" trend that is currently taking over today's music scene.

With metal dead, grunge an annoyance to anybody besides 12 year olds, the only real money making peice of music left is pop. But lets be real, pop never was about good music. When Michel Jackson released Black or White, the pop genra died a slow painful death. With the birth of boy bands put together souly to help the record labels make up for the loss of revue they no longer recieve from their metal and hard rock CDs the music scene took an even quicker turn for the worse. Talentless groups like 98 Degrees where popping up just long enough to make 13 year old girls lose their virginity to child molesting adults and steal what little money they had in their pocket before they dissapeared forever. But this quick turn around of easy money is what spawned shows like American Idol... that somehow also made millions. Which in turn just spawns more unneccessary crap music like Kelly Clarkson. They like it because the TV told them too a hundred times a day, not because it's actually good.

It's a combination of things that ruined music, not just one. And most of it is spawned when a classic group goes to shit.
