Of course it is.

And to add onto what elbeko said, the next update will feature a revamped structure that will hopefully encourage people to make more tutorials.

For this update, I ask you to please bare with me. There were a TON of things that needed changing. Some tutorials needed to be removed, names changed, websites changed, userpages linked to, and I probably made some mistakes. Feel free to point them out, and again, I aplogize. After this, it should get much easier.

We are continuing our "referall" program. If you put PHP: Main in your signature, you can get on the list under supporters with a link to your website. Simply put a link in your signature, and post here and say that you have put it in. You will be included in the next update. I am aware that everyone's sigs were removed in the redesign, so I encourage people who haven't put PHP: Main back in their sigs to please do so as any publicity helps PHP: Main :)

As always, please report any mistakes.

OK guys, here's the scoop.

You may have noticed PHP: Main has been moving really slow lately. You may have also noticed I didn't link to PHP: Main discussion on this update. That's because we're not going to use it anymore. I'm going to ask liljim to lock it. I think it will help us keep updates fresh if we do all PHP: Main business right in here.

Also, in this update, you might have noticed that tutorial authors are ordered by # of tutorials created.

Thoughts an all this?

Over all good ideas. I mean, usualy it it takes about seven tuts to bbe posted befor a new page is reached, but with chat in here as well (as long as it dosent get too off topic) it will mean the list stays nice and upto date. it works well in C++: main.

Make one on AJAX uploading. It's a bit of JS and a bit of PHP and it'd be very interesting :)

Not to put down PHP: Main or anything, but the only people I see using PHP: Main as a resource are regs. There are a few newbs who use it as well, but most "users" are regs (at least, from what I can see)

So, I say, instead of worrying whether or not a tutorial shows how to create a php document, and to put .php after it, I think we should (as we, slowly but surely already are doing) merge over to more complex things, like (as already mention) AJAX, classes, advanced systems (besides forums/portals/etc)

And the only people who are going to want a complex ajax uploader with advanced features that only a true php coder could know, is the true php coders (duh?)

I'm just saying, it'd be good to put away the baby toys, and start pulling out the big guns, because PHP: Main isn't looked at by many noobs (if any) (of course, from my perspective).

I mean, PHP: Main is a GREAT resource to refresh my knowledge of php, but all the way up until some of the ajax tutorials came out (and maybe the class tutorial by different), all I ever used this for was to "refresh my memory"

Just throwing that out there....you can take it, or chuck it back at me...your call guys

I sorta both agree, and disagree with what your saying.
Yes, a lot of the people who use PHP: Main are regs who dont need tutorials like "Starting With PHP" and the like.
However, when people with no previous knowledge with PHP post threads asking to learn, we generally redirect them to this thread. These are the people who need the "starter" tutorials.

Overall, i feel that both simple and advanced tutorials are welcomed.
Different people will use different tutorials, but i'm sure every tutorial wrote has probably helped someone or other at one point.

The more tutorials the merrier i say.

I'll certainly keep that in mind when I'm looking to make new tutorials. I can't tell people what tutorials to make, but hopefully some people will do some more advanced things like Doofy has been doing. I've been wanting to do one on using the YouTube API with PHP Simple XML for a while but I haven't had the time to sit down and write it. Hopefully soon :)

Should I make one about creating another directory (using the mkdir, and rmdir functions) for files and such? Or would it be too simple?

If it's too simple, what else should go with it?

If you think it'll be informative, then that's good. It just depends on whether or not you can supply useful information.

Boys and girls, the following is an important message: If you are not in the supporters list above, and you have put PHP: Main in your sig, you MUST re-post here to say so. So far I've seen some people who have re-posted PHP: Main in their sigs, but haven't let me know and if you don't post here I'll forget to include you when I do the update.
