meh, schools aren't about education, they're about training responses to preset situations. You should go to math and science periods and skip the others, you'll learn more on your own for the rest. (Even if you don't want to!) Oh and I guess if yours is one of the minority that has artistic education material you can go to that too, just make sure the things they're doing is stuff you'd like.

Oh and, punk isn't just dead, its corpse has been co-opted by every angsty dingbat that picks up a guitar too.

All you can do is put up with it untill college. Public High Schools are run like factories. Anyone who pull the "In Loco Parentis" crap in college gets laughed out of the room. When I was a freshman, I'd go to 7AM classes in my PJd and middle of the day classes sporting a shirt with a huge pot leaf. No one gives a shit here. They don't make draconian rules about lockers, dress codes, tardy slips, absences, or eating at a restaurant other than the cafeteria. We have our fair share of Bureaucratic Bullshit but it is worlds apart with what you guys have to deal with.

Punks and goths are not the same 'thing'. Slipknot is not punk; Slipknot is some kind of metal-grindcore hybrid.

First, the difference between punk and emo, or whether or not a certain band is Punk is completely irrelevant to the political aspect of the discussion. There's plenty of room in General for that sort of discussion.

The important information is the nature of the ban. Is the Punk subculture being banned, or just music that is classified as Punk? If it's music, is it not allowed to be played at all, ever, under any circumstance or is it permissable if played on a personal player with headphones at lunch?

Why was this ban suggested? The School has a prerogative to eliminate stimuli that disrupt the learning environment. That is why they have the power to enforce dress codes, search lockers and ban offensive language.

If we can get this information it will be possible to really think and learn about the subject, otherwise it's just a brat whining about how his school sucks.

The fact that you can list "real punk bands" doesn't mean it's true. I can come up with the most obscure bands too and pretend I'm hardcore. So please, dont pretend that all those bands you listed are amazing, because the only difference with them, and other "punk bands" is that other punk bands got lucky and hit it big so they got a lot more popular. Otherwise, all these bands are going for the same sound. (Estradashpere -- altho not pure punk -- are the only ones I can think of who actually go for their own unique sounds, good for them)
