I'm one of the happy few who gets responses from TheSwain. He's always been good to me for that, because he says my reviews are so good :)

I wonder if he'd like mine. Don't think I've ever reviewed one of his flashes. Haven't seen that many of them, for one thing.

Reviewing a flash months or years after it was submitted is way lower in response-procuring than reviewing right away was all I was saying.
Yeah, hence why new reviews are aimed for new flash, so maybe the author is still paying attention to it

That's all I meants, yep.

There's nothing better, though, than reviewing some 1-3 year old movie and getting an unexpected response back. I know this from teh experiences.

It is, but maybe he just cares more about reviewing than getting responses? Nothing wrong with that, either. Certainly beats inactive in both, like me most of the past few years. ;_;

I'm sure he'd like them more than some guy liked mine. Simple solution is to review the flash and then send him a quick link via PM, to see if he'd be kind enough to respond.

Heh. That guy was a bit of a jackhole, and I'm totally with you on cutting the song short not being cool. His whole "nobody animates an entire song's length!" is ridiculous. 50%+ of the music videos on NG I've enjoyed have full songs, but yes, quite a lot of authors do cut them short, too. For him to act like 5 minutes was unanimatable is pretty silly, though.

I do have to disagree with your original review to him on one thing, though: just because visually a music video has nothing to do with the lyrics of the song featured in it doesn't mean it needs to be classed as "abstract," or that it's not a music video

Thinking back to the good ol' days of AMP on MTV, vocals-free techno music videos don't HAVE lyrics to set the visuals to or have some sort of relevance. Does that make them "not" music videos?

Also, people make anime-clip music videos to tons of popular songs, and very rarely is there ever anything really connected between the songs and visuals, yet I've never seen people flaming them on YouTube and claiming they're not a proper music video.

Anyway, you asked for feedback in that thread, so I just thought I should let you know I differed with ya on one thing you seemed a bit anal (read: Greg-like) on. #;-}>

Simple solution is to review the flash and then send him a quick link via PM, to see if he'd be kind enough to respond.

Oh, I don't really care about responses from him, I really just meant I wondered if he would like my reviewstyle as well, 'tis all.

Coop's list update # 8

Another month, another update. I've been made aware of CruzAzul-19's impending membership of this list and I noted Aci6 making some good progress with the number of reviews (You passed me, you bastard!) so I thought it was worth checking him out for the list.

Of course, when that happens, it means we have to say goodbye to some of our 100, so this falls to MightyDein and HAcoreRD. I'd hope that with the numbers put up recently, they might be worthy of re-entry sometime soon.

Milestones
milinko959 - 1,500 Responses
RSQViper - 300 Responses

Darkside7000 joins the top 50, with HandsomePete dropping to # 52 to make way.

Cool still up there, I havn't been to agressive makign my lsit of 22 flashes to review as of yet.
Even if get a response to all of them it jsut puts me over 58%.
I'd have give up the 1337 to get any where above 60...
which probably won't happen, still one of the higher rrates fin the top 10 :)

Indeed, the highest rate in the top 15... for now :P

My target for the month is the big 500 Responses. Everythign else is secondary achievement at present.

Moar reviews plx!

I didn't mean anyone in particular, but I did drop down a lot on this update, so I just naturally assumed that all else being equal, I'll be booted further down in a matter of time and slip out of the top 50.

Besides, if I just go and review randomly (Which is what I normally do, yes), I'm not very likely to get responses anyway.

Now, your list is ordered on total responses, not % like my old list was, so it's not like I can truly shoot myself in the foot and push myself out of the top 50, but reviewing more might not necessarily help my case.

And what if a flash or two that I've reviewed and got a response from the author on is deleted any day now? OH NOE, now I'm screwed.

See what I mean? Precarious situations are just that.

.... well, at least this isn't just a top 50 list. #;-}>
Very true.

And that's the brighter side in this case.

If you're not gaining responses, it is safe to assume that you will eventually lose ground. That's like assuming that people like ramagi and Denvish will eventually fall behind me for B/P though :P

Besides, if I just go and review randomly (Which is what I normally do, yes), I'm not very likely to get responses anyway.

I keep suggesting the Review Request Club and the benefits offered by the high proportion of responses issued. Speaking of which, I'd better get some of mine done for this week, as I've only doen 3 Flash reviews so far from the quota.

Oh yeah, I've got enough data to make a top 200 Responses list now. I choose not to because that would entail so much more work and would give us users with about 70-90 responses, who haven't reviewed for years.

For some reason, the spreadsheet that Afro_Stud gave to me had users with only about 40 responses on it. I keep picking a few new users from the top 100 Reviewers list, LUL and RRC to give me some more accurate figures. I don't have any plans to expand at present, though

I dunno. If I really wanted to review more, wouldn't I?

Don't confuse me not reviewing as much as you think I want to... with me not reviewing as much as I want to.

Or me not reviewing as much as you would if you were me... with me not reviewing as much as I want to.

I'm not sure which of those you're confusing, but I think it's a little of at least one of 'em. #;-}>

I was more thinking that before you get to 100k, you might decide, as I did, that there's no need to continue the whole b/p ambition game to such insane heights. But you might never decide that, either. Just saying... it's far easier for me to avoid slipping on this list than it is for you to pass ramagi or Denvish in b/p.

And yes, I realise that if things continue as they have been for the past few weeks, it's the exact opposite, but inertia/momentum isn't everlasting when there are things like gravity and friction to fuck with them. And I might actually (gasp) start reviewing sometime soon. But not right now. #;-}>

I had plenty of people in the tracking section of my spreadsheets who had fairly low (by any standards) stats in terms of in comparison to what gets you on a list. So I don't find it too surprising that Afro had 40-response folks on his spreadsheet.

Speaking of spreadsheets... I just downloaded and installed OpenOffice 2.3 on this laptop today.... and my gf gmailed me the Pentalist spreadsheet from the old desktop to my gmail so I could DL it onto the laptop...

OO Calc + Pentalist .xls file = funs!

But before the funs, hard works. I'll need your and any other interested parties' help to get usernames for URLs for profiles for checkings. This is gonna be like a grassroots political campaign. Gotta do the footwork!

I've said this a few times on these forums, mostly in response to Dream-of-Duke's jibber jabber about how he will be king of the universe. The motivation for continuing to B/P for me come from two sources:

1) The continued supply of fresh submissions to the portal (I've got this kewel Voting power, it would be silly not to use it!)

2) The fact that I am not number 1 in said rankings. There are rankings, that I can physically reach the top of, I must scale that high if at all physically possible.

Yeah, reviewing is one of the less addictive drugs here on NG. We still manage to maintain a core of reviewers who are hooked, so it's a living :P

2) The fact that I am not number 1 in said rankings. There are rankings, that I can physically reach the top of, I must scale that high if at all physically possible.

Okiedokie. I don't share that ambition, I guess. I was once #2, but the fact that I wasn't ever able to pass ramagi to be #1 as 4 others have since I was #2 and then retired and began being passed... doesn't really bother me.

Anyway, neither of your two reasonings proves that you will continue to do so all the way to 150,000 b/p, or whatever it will take to be #1. Because, let's face it, at some point, it WILL require that. And then some more afterwards.

And yes, I realise that if things continue as they have been for the past few weeks, it's the exact opposite, but inertia/momentum isn't everlasting when there are things like gravity and friction to fuck with them. And I might actually (gasp) start reviewing sometime soon. But not right now. #;-}>

There were plenty of VP list wannabes that I would only check every 5 times I updated the list, so yes.... I know what it's like. Don't wanna check the full list of prospectives EVERY single time. #;-}>

YAY!

I've already begun the works.

I took all 600+ old userID# profile URLs, and converted them into userID# review URLs. I've begun clicking on the links for all of them, and will then convert THOSE into new username profile/userpage URLs, the final step.

Granted, I could just leave then the userID# review URLs, since those bring up the new username review pages, which still show the user's stats on the left column next to the reviews, but A) I'd rather link in the actual webpage list update to the main profile, not the review page..... and B) I won't trust that the admins won't shut off the userID#s linking to the userpages on the old review URL..... seeing as how they did shut it off on working for the old profile URL, so... it may just be a loophole they haven't closed yet.

By the weekend, I will have my pentalist spreadsheet ENTIRELY "modernised," meaning it will have nothing but newstyle profile/userpage links in it instead of the old user ID# ones...

AND, I will go ahead and update every single username to the current locked down usernames, as well, while I'm at it. Easier to do that now than any other time.

So that leaves...

But before the funs, hard works. I'll need your and any other interested parties' help to get usernames for URLs for profiles for checkings. This is gonna be like a grassroots political campaign. Gotta do the footwork!

Are you after someone to trawl through the current pentalist update and try to find names of former accounts that have changed their names to something else altogether...

As I said above, the name changes no longer matter, since someone pointed out to me the old review userID# URL trick, and it's been working for me in all cases. So once I've done the above.... and the weekend arrives... what I need help with is this:

I need help finding people who need to be on the last update, because they've crossed over 2x10k but they're not on my spreadsheet yet.

So what I'm thinking is that I'll either post a list of who I DO have in the pentalist topic... in fact, perhaps a list of "here's the people I was monitoring for 10k exp" and a list of "here's the people that were nearing 10k blams and saves back at the end of 2006," and then a posts one, too... clearly the reviews won't be a problem, the top 100 reviewers list covers that nicely.

Anyway... so either I'll post all four of those user lists in the topic, or I'll make a temporary .html file and put it up on the site so you and anyone else who wants to help "nominate" people that I should add to the spreadsheet in prep for the update itself.... that would help tons.

I think it's clear, though, that I won't really be able to update the list this coming weekend, but maybe we can get most of the pre-update work done by next week, and then I can update the list the weekend after next. Meaning by ol' St. Patrick's Day, we'll have....

FINAL LIST UPDATENESS!

Yeah, I know that. What I'd reply to that is that the older flash that frequently receive votes on don't change their score much at all, so even your mighty VP doesn't dent those behemoth scores.

However, you did precisely what I am doing, which is continuing to B/P over the years after reaching 30k B/P and your 60% bonus. You've used it, which exemplifies my point!

2) The fact that I am not number 1 in said rankings. There are rankings, that I can physically reach the top of, I must scale that high if at all physically possible.

That's fair enough, you've come to terms with your own decisions, which is the main reason for doing anything, unless you are spineless.

Anyway, neither of your two reasonings proves that you will continue to do so all the way to 150,000 b/p, or whatever it will take to be #1. Because, let's face it, at some point, it WILL require that. And then some more afterwards.

I do it for the fun, mostly - you can't do it if you don't enjoy it, despite how arduous of a task that Dream-of-Duke portrays it to be.

And yes, I realise that if things continue as they have been for the past few weeks, it's the exact opposite, but inertia/momentum isn't everlasting when there are things like gravity and friction to fuck with them. And I might actually (gasp) start reviewing sometime soon. But not right now. #;-}>

I've raised the scores of all the BEEBO movies by 0.50+, actually, by voting on them every day for 2-3 years.

Persistance + VP pays off in the end.

It's like erosion.... the shifting of the planetscape. Tectonic motions. That sort of thing.

However, you did precisely what I am doing, which is continuing to B/P over the years after reaching 30k B/P and your 60% bonus. You've used it, which exemplifies my point!

Yeah, but when I crossed 30k, I had some ambitions, mostly for my saverank, and I didn't see any reason to stop b/ping.

At a certain point from 30k to 60k, I clearly got tired of it, and retired for 1.5 years until the lure of 36k saves sucked me in.

I'm just saying that I don't think anyone should ever rule out the possibility that their motivations will change, or that they will lose their ambition to hit #1 in b/p, that's all. When you speak of passing all those 100,000+ b/p people as though it's a fact.... that just hasn't happened yet, it makes me think "well, we'll see."

Okiedokie. I don't share that ambition, I guess. I was once #2, but the fact that I wasn't ever able to pass ramagi to be #1 as 4 others have since I was #2 and then retired and began being passed... doesn't really bother me.
That's fair enough, you've come to terms with your own decisions, which is the main reason for doing anything, unless you are spineless.

And all I'm saying is that no one can foresee their own future mental state.

Exactly. So I hope it continues to be fun for you as long as you wish it to be, but don't expect it to be fun forever. #;-}>

I'll try to get hooked again. I really will.
If it's too much of an effort, don't bother. I'm just trying to drum up some excitement around here :P

I DON'T WANNA BE LEFT OUT. #;-}>

What if it's in the graveyard?
It's not - I linked it for your viewing pleasure :P

Oh, I didn't notice teh link because I was reading your post while quote/replying, as I often do.

I need help finding people who need to be on the last update, because they've crossed over 2x10k but they're not on my spreadsheet yet.
Ok, I'll head through the top Portectors list spreadsheet - that should give me all double and triplelisted users that you might need from there. I'll try to get a PM off to you this evening, after the gym session.

That'll take care of 1 of the 4 branches I need, yep. Thanks for your help on that.

I'll take care of the review branch myself, which is why I didn't say "of the 5" above.

Now, blams I should go and see what the most recent blammer list has for me....

Posts.... I know there's that poster list out there somewhere, so that should help, if I can remember where it is.

And finally, exp.... I guess I'll have to rely on ramagi's last top 1000 update, eh?

And a fine update it'll be, to be sure, to be sure!

Just doing this preliminary work in my spreadsheet, I'm starting to get about as excited about it as I'd expect you and Bahamut and others have been in the past half year or so, back when I was kinda "ehhhh, whatever" about it, because I just didn't see 10k posts happening anytime soon......

When potential becomes reality, or is even just poised on the brink of becoming.... it's amazing how a mindset can change.

I now have 160 responses (161 if Bahamut responds to my latest review). Hopefully that is enough to be on the list on the next update :) .

That's it, positive thinking!

Meh, no worries there. The portal ban only delayed the series by 5 days, so now the 493th episode will be submitted on 31st December, unless I miscounted the amount of days from now to then.

Third place, brilliant!
I thought you were my major competition for this update, but alas, Cyberdevil snuck in there with a 59er and pipped me to the post :(

You did harass Afro_Stud to respond to some of your reviews and while he was doing that, he responded to some of my reviews. Still, I need to keep harassing him to respond to the rest of my reviews.

My target for the month is the big 500 Responses. Everythign else is secondary achievement at present.

And my target is 666 responses, which I'll get on Friday assuming I get a response for CAI493+D 204 - 207. And after that, I'll be aiming for 700. That's pretty obvious, but at the rate I'm going, it'll take me until mid April to get it.

Responded, thanks for mentioning that. You should be in the list now, but just incase you don't, why not review a few more flashes of mine? ;)

Also, Nomader shall be re-entering the list soon. :D

Coop's list #9
Happy Easter, folks. Rather than walk around the garden looking for easter eggs (I did the shopping this year, so I know eggsactly where they are, for a change), I've decided to go hunting for stats. The pull was done in about an hour last night.

We've gained two new members this month. Say hello to Haggard and Nomader.

Of course, this means that we've lost two members from the list. Shock of shocks, we have now raised the response rate bar. jonthompson has taken his 3 figure response rate off the list and thus we are all 10% or more across the board. R3dF0x has... ahem... mysteriously dissapeared off the list.

No movement between the top 50 and 51-100, so on with the ceremony!
