Ok, first you need to tighten the top string so it makes a "Deooowwww" noise. Then the next string needs to make a "Dwowwwww" noise.

You see where I am going with this?

I think its a half step below Drop C but I'm not sure.

If you have a song that is in drop B you can try tuning with the song

Buy a chromatic tuner. Buy thick strings. Tune every string down 2.5 steps.

So, your strings should be tuned as such: B E A D F# B

If you don't know what I'm talking about, I suggest you don't fuck around at all and stick to playing video games or something.

Bass strings usually snap when tuned.

As for the question at hand, tune five half steps down (five frets). This tuning is commonly used when trying to simulate the bassy sound a 7 string guitar would get. An easy way to tune to this tuning would be to hit your second string (your B string) and then start detuning untill the tones match.

Screw cromatic tuners, use your ears. It's MUCH better ear training and will easily come in handy when you start learning how to bend.

hmmm, kinda complicated and hard to keep in tune. I guess your trying to learn something by Slipknot if it's a drop b, but anyhoo......

downtune it loooaaaaaaaads (not too much though ;) ) and make sure the 6th string is an A (the same pitch as the 5th string) when you play at the 10th fret. then downtune the 5th string so it has the same pitch as the 6th at the 7th fret (F#) and take it from their. the notes for each string are (from 6 to 1) are:

B,F#,B,E,G#,C#

if your not that good with theory it's hell to explain, but i get it naturaly and i've explained it as well as i can. you can use a piano aswell if you have one

Bass strings usually snap when tuned.

I've had the same strings for nearly 2 years now and screwed around with them a bit, You'd have to really tighten em.

more advice, a drop B tuning is best if you have heavy gauge strings or string retainers to stop them flying back into your face and snapping and ripping your eye out and screaming "aaargh! dude! my eye! duuuuuude!"

something else about the drop b tuning, NEVER be tempted to use any of your fingers except your index finger because...

A) Playing a power chord with your pinky (if you were jumping 4 frets) is easy, but the chord will be in a wierd shape and be out of tune

B) Of you want to learn to Slipknot's level, they only use their index fingers for power chords. So basiclly, you can only play Disasterpiece with your index finger. not so easy now is it?

If you have a microphone on your computer you can use programs that will act like a hand-held tuner, lights and everything. Check for one on download.com.

Again, bass strings usually snap when tuned. I said nothing on how long they last.

You'd be suprised at how much stress can be put onto bass strings when they are unstretched.
