I've seen this program used, and dont know what the big deals about. It's just a multi track session that can host VST's, doesn't look like anything more than a different look on fruity loops. I'm probably wrong, but if anyone here uses it, please tell me some Pros + Cons of using it over say, FL or, Reason 3.0. I've heard both good and bad things so I just wanted to see what you guys know about it!

I dont personally use it, but i have lots of freinds that do, i would say if you want a comprehensive answer go check out 'sound on sound' or futuremusic/computer music for some indepth reviews, anything anyone tells u here will be personal and therefore slightly biased.

To be honest, cubase SX is useless... unless you have a recording studio. Its a proffesional recording/dubbing/mixing tool, for live recording, editing and integration with other tracks, media forms and proffesional production. There really isnt much use for it out of a studio, but its amazing at what it does.

I disagree. I use Cubase SX and I don't have a recording studio. Just a guitar, a drum program, my Guitar Port, and my fiddly fingers!

Cubase is cool. It has tons of plugins and shit. You can add reverb or distortion or echos etc... to each track that you record... There's a shitload of things that I don't use on Cubase, I still havn't figured it out...

Anyone who says that Cubase is pointless outside of a studio, is a bit misinformed.

Cubase is a great audio multi-tracking tool for starters. You don't need 8+ inputs to make good use out of it.

Great Midi facilities too. Awesome mixer and automation functions.

In which case, I am misinformed.

I've used both Cubase sx3 and FL5 and I must say Cubase is vastly superior when it comes to MIDI editing and audio recording and editing. Cubase has a very different feel to it than FL, so it all depends on how you like to make music. Cubase is organized and more professional while, to me, FL is more of a wild and crazy playground. If you like FL and you don't need more advanced audio and midi editing, then stick with FL. I haven't tried Reason so no comments on that.

i actually prefer protools running on a c24 control board for actualy live recording , but i have never used cubase, reason i found to be boring, it felt like it wanted to emulate actualy rack pieces as opposed to be a good program and i agree with the playground statement in regards to fruity loops in the most fun ive had on a computer without lotion in a long time...

"hitting you with the fabled 14-incher" - a slight exaggeration

Reason much more closely resembles Cubase. When using it, you tend to follow a very strict production scheme. Make an instrument, Do a track for it in sequencer, Equalize, or anything of that idea. You're right though, Fruityloops is a crazy mess until you've got the hang of it..
