advice?

I am going to start making flash as a hobby. I really love art and music and stuff like that... basically i would like some good suggestions on which brands to buy on flash equipment and what the best prices are...

If this post is like any other peoples and they have answered questions, please refer me to that post because i dont want to spam up the BBS.

Anyway, www.macromedia.com is the leading developer of Flash creation software with their product, aptly named "Flash". Their latest release, Flash 8, is roughly £500/$700 for the full version but there is a student version for about £100/$150 that some people may purchase. Just look around their site.

something liam didnt mention, you can download a 30 day free trial before actually buying it. this means you dont just have to jump in at the deep end and hope that you like it.

also, you might wanna search for Flash on some bidding sites / buying sites..

Ah yeah, auction sites are a good source of Flash and the free trial is definitly very helpful.

Student version is a very good choice, I got one for about 100$, you just need to show that you're a student (even if you arn't just get the student ID of a friend or someone and show that YOU DIDN'T HEAR THIS FROM ME YOU DIDN'T HEAR THIS FROM ME) Also though, you can make money using an education version, but if you're just doing it as a hobby this shouldn't be a problem.

Or you can try Ebay, I hear they sometimes have Flash MX 2004 as low as 80$, I'm not sure what prices 8 is going at though.

And by the way, like you said many people do ask this, if you look at the bottom left of each forum page youll see a "search" bar, type in your question (e.x. "where to get flash") and it'll give you a list of similar threads made.

well originally because of some of the ads on ng, namely the "napster full of free porn" one. and i said about how it was kinda putting us down (except the horny 13 year olds) and that i dont really wanna show my parents something i made, then have them seeing that. he then emailed back about 4 hours later saying he was sorry and he felt the same, just that it had a contract on how long it runs for or something so couldnt do anything.

then, he emailed back again today saying he removed them!

That is actually pretty awesome, though the ads didn't really bother me (I sometimes put a flash on while eating and all my family watch it too, they don't really care about stuff like that) I can see where you were coming from and that just goes to show how awesome Tom is.

I once e-mailed him about Alien Hominid being reviewed in OPS2 and I copied the whole review out (it wasn't too long) and a picture of it, he replied after about 30 minutes saying how it's cool and thanking me for it, asking me if it (7/10) was a good score.. etc.

We have so many plans for NGMag and it never quite gets off the ground.
James built a bunch of tools to help automate management, but they never
quite reached the point where they could be used by admins and contributors
beyond us. As a result, NGMag has remained a bit stagnant. We gotta get back

Get the trial first, plus you can might get a cheap copy of an older Flash (mx or mx04), unless you can live with the educational license, which forbidds you to use flash commercially.

Also, is your current PC to slow? (stats?)
Will you get a digitizer tablet?
