71/100

Reason: Nice specs, but I'm not sure it'd hold up properly under average pressure.

It's alright. It's only got 512MB SDRAM. The HDD is nice though. And I'm impressed that it comes with 7 USB 2.0 ports and firewire.

How do you think it would do for games? I'm planning on adding an extra 512mb of ram and a new video card (maybe 256mb) anyways. I don't really need anything that can play Doom 3 on highest with a high frame rate but would it do fairly well?

My computer right now can barely play any 3D games made within the last 5 years.

ok, i have a few points to make about the comp you'r thinking about getting and the one you have:
1. if the comp you have now was made 5 years ago, it should be able to play some decent games, you just need to clean it up (my comp is 8 years old and can preform relativly decently)
2. that comp is ok, but assuming that price is american, it's no good, you are better off finding a place in your city that can build you a nice costom job with a more powerful everything for the same price
3. i recommend AMD over intel, unless you're really into DDR2 RAM
4. learn about the stuff you're about to buy, because a P.C. can be a complicated thing to get, if you want the most bang for your buck.

So I'm basically awesome.

It can't :'(

I see, I might get my friend (who knows a lot about computers) to help me build my own.

k

4. learn about the stuff you're about to buy, because a P.C. can be a complicated thing to get, if you want the most bang for your buck.

That's why I'm asking

Thanks.

well, this place has some good prices, and good parts, but unless you live in my city, i doubt it would be of any use to you (besides a good price comparison)

After reading the post I think I'll just end up building one myself. My friend is coming over tomorrow and he's going to help me look for parts and the like. Another question though: How much would it cost to build a computer with the following...

>=2.5 GHz processor
>120GB HDD
>512MB ram
128MB - 256MB video card of some sort
DVD+RW dual layer

5.5/10 Good processor, ok RAM, but lot's of problems.

integrated graphics? yeah-a hell no. Freezes up all your games. It also comes with no monitor, no, speakers, no nothing but the computer, easy way t rip off unsuspecting buyers.

YOu do not need 200GB of storage for gods sake, a little tiny 40gb can hold enough if you're not big on anything in particular but surfing the web, 80gb if you like that porn, 120GB if you masturbate hourly and procrastinate with deletion or hold a library, 200GB is only if you have a business or work for one and need to hold a shitload of files, along with your porn, and all the shit that accumulates that you're too stupid to know how to delete.

Dual layer Optical drives? rip-off. Even if you're a music lover or make videos and such, there's no reason why you can't put it on your computer, take out the disk, put in the new one, and burn from there. Only needed to buy if you are a producer of some sorts or love making videos and do this type of stuff constantly.

Mini tower...Now really, who doesn't have enough space in a room to accomodate a regular tower? Just another way to jack up the price and rip off the consumer further.

Overall only if you know what you doing. THis thing was mainly designed to rip off the unsuspecting buyer or computer novice. After they get it, they realize they have no speakers or monitor, and have to buy them seperately, and most novices will buy it from the company again. THe monitor will cost them at least $70 for a regular 17" CRT, $200 for a 19", and since most people like flat panels now, at least $250. THen the speakers. The $10 ones are basic and crakelly sounding, and people don't like them, so good speakers cost like $40 at least. You end up paying like $250 or more extra, plus the shipping. Instead of paying the $600 you planned, you're now down near $1000, because of overpriced express priority shipping you stupidly bought. Once again, rip off.

I see what you mean but there are a few things to it. With both shipping and being converted to Canadian, it's $570 CAD. It comes with speakers, a mouse, and a keyboard (http://www.tigerdire..amp;CMP=OTC-SHOPPIN
G
).

I have about 180GB now and it's almost completely filled. Mostly movies and TV series. Though with the DVD burner (duel layer to use less discs) I guess I could go for something smaller after burning it all.

You are right about the monitor though, not to mention needing to buy more RAM and a new video card.

I don't think I'm getting it anymore anyways.

Oh, and you're going to need some more cheap parts:
A red led, a green led, and a switch. Make sure they have a plugin-thing at the end or you're going to have to soilder them into the motherboard. And you're going to need a monitor, speakers, mic, keyboard, mouse, 2 power cables, lan cable, modem cable, modem, windows disk, dos floppy, ect. Whatever you need.

Now, if you're going to go out and buy everything, check with a hardware forum to make sure I didn't get anything wrong and you aren't going to waste $200 on a 6800 for no reason.

And here's what you do:

Plug the hard drive, floppy drive, and CD drive cables into the motherboard, and plug them into the drives. The motherboard says which cable to put into a slot.

Attach the power switch and two leds to the motherboard. It'll say where they go...

Put the 6800 in the AGP slot.

Put the sound card and modem in the PCI slots.

Put the RAM in the RAM slots.

Take the power box. Plug the biggest plug into the motherboard, the small 3-wired ne into the motherboard, the 4-segmented common ones into the cd/dvd drive and the hard drive.

Put the CPU in the CPU slot.

Put the cpu cooler on the CPU.

Put everything in the case.

Attach all the external devices.

Boot and load the bios setup.

Give it this boot order:
Floppy
CD
HD
Other

Save, put the windows CD in the CD drive.

Your patriatchs should be like this:
-10mb for DOS.
-256mb free.
-The rest goes to Windows.

Install windows, set up the network and internet.

Quit windows, install DOS(in case windows fucks up).

And you have made a computer!

If you are looking for a new box and have the know how you should think ahead. Get a decent motherboard that you can upgrade. Something like the DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-D You can find a refurbished on newegg for 122$ . I know that is a massive chunk of change for one part but the motherboard and power supply are the most important really. With this board you can upgrade to any 939 socket CPU in the future and it can hold up to 4 gb of ram. Also it has SLI which you can buy a cheep card now upgrade to one good sli card later then later add the same one to increase your power again. Also it has support and ports out the ass. Unfortunately the cheapest 939 socket CPU is still going to run you about 146$ . Then add 512 mb Ram about 50 bucks(I think you need 2 sticks to run in dual channel so get 256 sticks if you cant afford to get another 512), case about 30-100 depending, PSU like 55-75, HDD about 55 bucks for a 80 gig SATA 3gbps, then DVD dual layer about 40 more bucks, and the cheapest vid card I would get is the x300se which is about 40 bucks. So that’s what about 538 dollars best case and 628 worst?

If money is the only factor buying that system will probably get you more then you could making your own once you figure in shipping and all that. Just when you get a chance like everyone else suggested bumb up the vid card and ram.
