Just take a cool bass drum sample that you think is "on its way" to be good, then filter it and compress it. Boom. Or some shit like that :P
turn down tempo to about 91 - 71.
hip hop is slow.
the kick is usually either punchy, or bassy.
the snare is usually quiet, but is masked with a reverbed clap to give it sustinance.
crashes are used about once or twice in a song...when they stop, and when they end. if not less.
as for hi hats, very soft...depends on the feeling your going for.
and the beat in general cant be empty...lots of hip hop relies on the beat, not the melody too much.
i hope i helped.
you constantly hit the high hat wile every now and then hit the snare and bass...million dolla song right dere!
needs a funky ride rhythm behind it. Adds nice BG noise to the track, which hip hop really means.
