Well, after digesting this little tid-bit of

I think the guy who said better education systems is full of shit, I hate school, I listen in school, I dont remember anything but basic principles from school, so middle and high school is full of crap which I dont remember, and school SUX! Every word in that paragraph (I knew about paragraphs LONG before I learned them in school >.<) i learned myself so buzz off about that bs about better school systems.
So basically I'm smart because of games? Possible...
Not saying that its true however.

Video Games!

so we can be a nation of lardass smart kids that are more skilled at grand theft auto 3 than physical labor

First of all, higher I.Q is not a factor of real intelligence or success in life. It's not because you can count faster than you grandpa that you're going to be able to succeed in your life. It's not the people who count the fastest who best others, it's those who can manipulate the public and who can take their place by imposing themselves as leaders ( and also those without pity or remorse... which is sad).

Videogames are almost all violence, if anyone of you can tell me how bashing aliens and dragons is going to make you more intelligent, I'd like to hear you.

Our grandparents didn't even finish school anyway! The great majority of them never set foot in a college and i'm not even sure if most of them had a high school diploma. Come on, they where all farmers or workers in some factory, and the women stayed at home all day cooking and taking care of the children! How and why would they have been smarter than us?

Our parents have received much better education but still, there is a smaller percentage of them who have high school education than our generation.

Now that we are all well-educated, our children probably won't have a higher I.Q than us. Let's think about it, did our great grand parents have a lower I.Q than their children (and so on)? If not, why are our parents "smarter" than our grandparents: they didn't have video games! And what about all the places on earth where people don't have video games ? They're all dumber?

I think this "study" is a load of bullshit designed to make North Americans and Europeans think they are smarter because they can buy these games and because their kids spend a lot of time playing them. One last thing, who funded this survey? A video game company?...

p.s: I like video games, but they don't make one smarter!

Well that’s understandable, according to most of the IQ test online I have an IQ of 145. And im a huge gamer, and im really into intellectual films... such as ghost in the shell, fight club, se7en, instinct, and the list goes on. They say that our surroundings form who we are, so games and films would be included... its sad though that the majority of people are still not that bright.

Hey whats up newgrounds. That News tidbit about videogames and T.V. yes we are actually very smart people with little social skills. Hey Do not consume your life with this crap. I have became like this a friendless not including work yet rich, young, individual. That is because I talk to nobody I am a complete opposite of all of my realatives and I don't care. I blame my 3rd grade teacher that made me take Ritalin and she was all like he walks around and forgets about me. I actually had pretty good grades but she was just a bitch. That changed my life I always hit on girls in kindergarten to early 3rd grade. I have not had a girlfriend ever, I've kissed a girl in kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and thats it. I was a pimp but then I was changed completely and utterly changed. Nobody I know liked 6th Grade but that was actually my best year since 1st grade.

I wouldnt put so much weight in these IQ tests. There's a reason why they arent used in schools. And thats because in many cases they innaccurately

These tests analyze basic reasoning, observation, and in some cases motor skills. These tests are perfect for kids today, because its the kind of thing they've been exposed to, in schools and in computers. These are all practical skills, mostly acquired through exposure and learning.

But these tests dont measure anything of true value such as true deductive reasoning, ability to adapt, or common sense. And many kids today lack these abilities, watch the news for any stretch of time and this will be painfully obvious.

So older generations are lacking in intelligence. And what about those millions of people, in their teens to early 20s, who got on a ship to the United States. They couldnt speak english; they were strangers in a foreign land. But they learned and adapted. I can guarantee you, take any of these teenagers with this 25 point IQ advantage and they wont last a week in a foreign country, on their own.

There's this arrogance people have nowadays that humans
have evolved and are far more intelligent that humans hundreds or thousands of years ago. People have reached this conclusion because of technological advances.

However, as far any profound understanding of human existance, philosophical thought, spirituality or even how our mind truly works we dont know a single thing more than did our ancestors 5000 years ago. And thats where you measure true human progress.

We're not any more sophisticated than humans ever were. Romans cheered innocents being slaughtered in an arena. People still have pleasure watching someone get ripped to peices; at least half the movies on Newgrounds involve violence, and pretty bad stuff at that. I'm sure people will say there's a difference, but is there really? That fact that someone is laughing at murder, whether simulated or not is quite shocking if you really think about it.

So are people more intelligent today than in the past? I highly doubt that... Especially considering how badly people spell on this site.

Anyway, these are my two cents...

I noticed someone above listed these movies as intellectual; Ghost in the Shell, Fight Club, Seven, Instinct.

These movies are by no stretch of the imagination intellectual. They're Hollywood movies geared at making money and being cool, with a watered-down profound argument.

As for Ghost in the Shell and anime in general, its about as far from being profound as you can get. They basically take an idea thats been repeated a million times before and regurgitate it. Its a fad in anime to try to have some kind of message, and its always convoluted and pointless, usually without any bearing on real life.

I'll admit, I like Ghost in the Shell and Fight Club, but they arent intellectual.

True intellectual movies most people would find boring. A few good ones are Pi, 2001, there are many others that dont come to mind now. There are excellent movies from all over the world that talk about the human experience.

Þ

I totally know what you mean. Results from studies change the way the slut down the street changes girlfriends. (Trust me, it's a lot) If video games are good, I'd like to see a person from our generation with average IQ and a person from the older generation with average IQ sit in front of a TV for 2 days straight and then write a test, strange to see the results.

One study doesn't prove video games make kids smarter... were the kids in each generation given the exact same IQ test, under the same conditions?
