If I could choose, I'd probably go for the Marines. When I talked to my family they said I should go Navy if I went at all, because they thought it would be the safest. I've got no clue if that's true or not.

I'm in college now though. So unless I get thrown for a complete loop, this is where I'm staying until I get a job that helps people out (sans bloodshed). Hoo-rah for philanthropy!

I'm ex Navy (SBU-20/NAVSPECWARGRU-2, part of the US Special Forces.) My choice would, if I had to do it over again, not be a particular service, but it would be a Special Forces unit. They are less hung up on corn-cob-up-the-ass chickenshit and treat you more like a man. Gotta make the grade first, BTW. Probably back to SBU (Now SBT). US Special Forces work with each other more than they work with their parent branch of service (USSOCOM).

If you're so worried about getting killed, don't join the military. Nobody lives forever, anyway.

Well, if this is a personal question, and I absolutely HAD to join the military, then I'd have to say Coast Guard. Why?

Too many felonies (1) for the air force.
Too stubborn for the army.
Too lazy for Marines.
Too claustrophobic for the Navy.

Besides, I don't have to leave the country for the Coast Guard. However, if you're asking me to tell you which service to join, I'd say bag that shit and go to college.

Well then I guess it's good that I don't want to join the military, right? : )

The charge was for alledgedly harrassing my mother. She doesn't like me too much. : ) I could've got it dropped, but I'd had enough of lockup, so I went with a guilty plea and got time served at 16 days.

Ya, I probably could get a waiver, but, like I said, the military really doesn't interest me. I just posted on this board because Proteas posted on it and it was at the top of the list. lolz. Also to rack up my post count. : )

I plan on joining the Navy, so I can go into the SEAL teams. The only reason I really pick the SEALs over some of the others- Rangers, PJs, Marine recon, is beacuse the SEALs deal with a lot of water operations, and beacuse of their abalties to be deployed as a counter terrorist unit.

Well congrats man. I know (thanks to TV) that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication and commitment to join the SEALS. If you're really up for it, and are willing to work harder than you've ever worked in your life, then go ahead and good luck.

However, I really would encourage you to NOT join the military. Too many risks. However, that's just my opinion. Then again, if you're going to join up anyway, you might as well join the best. It'll suck having one less person on NG, but I hope you get back here ASAP so you can let us all know that you're not dead.

Peace and good luck. May the Force be with you.

Well, the Army is the basic fighting system, the Navy is practically wiped out or comepletly intertwined with the Airforce, the CoastGuard is considered a joke by many (not my real opinoin), the Airforce is good too and the Marines are basically the hardest trained group, first to go in, last to come out is what they say.

So, which one would I choose, I'd probably go with the Army and the many sub-jobs that can be done.

No reason to want to pop your bubble, but unless you are one of the better athletes at your school and plan on getting in super shape, you are fucked. That is some of the toughest shit to get into. And if you miss the boat joining Seals you are stuck doing some shit job for the Navy no one else wants to do. And then you are stuck in SEALs for like 6 years, whether you make it or not.

And if you want to go as an officer, well, even better luck you need : /

Yeah it's hard work; but I'm pretty motivated and that's a huge part of getting through BUDs, it also helps that I'm a pretty good athlete to.

However, I really would encourage you to NOT join the military. Too many risks. However, that's just my opinion. Then again, if you're going to join up anyway, you might as well join the best. There are a lot of risks, but I wouldn't want to do anything else. But I don't plan on kicking the bucket anytime soon.

You're putting out some bum information there. First off, yes, you do have to be in excellent physical condition to join the teams but is nothing that a motivated person could not achieve with a little work. (If you are afraid of a little work, I suggest you find a different line of work.) What the SEALs require is intense mental toughness. Any one interested should read about hell week and decide if they think they could hack it.

Second off, there are many different source ratings that are elligible to jon the teams. These range from BM (boatswains mate) to ET (electronics technicians) to everything in between. Some of these many would consider "crap" jobs and some are actually quite good. If, for whatever reason, you fail to make the teams, you will simply go back to doing the job you were trained for in the first place. As always, chose your rating carefully and if you are interested in joining the teams insure that your NEC (Naval enlistment code) is a SEAL source rating.

You're honestly gonna tell me that in the last 40 years the navy hasn't been mostly phased out with Aircraft Carriers instead of Cruisers, Destroyers and whatnot?
