I don't know HOW many times I've had to say this (well...twice :P), but just to re-iterate:

There is NO POSSIBLE WAY IN HELL that you can actually MAKE music on a computer. Man, you've gotta buy yourself a big SSL mixing desk and a whole bunch of outboard effects, microphones, instruments and soundproofing gear. If you can't afford that, then you might want to see if you can rent out someone elses studio space.

I mean, lets face it. Anyone who tries to make music on a computer is CLEARLY retarded. Software is for chumps, idiots and babies. Unless you like your music to sound like a gameboy put through a crappy fuzz pedal.

Hey, if you don't mind flying over to Australia, I'll let you use my studio for free. Seriously dude, I've got acres and acres of music gear here with your name written all over it.

I don't know where you got this impression, but it's completely incorrect.

For a solid fact, I make music on my computer, with this "Software" you speak of.

He asked a logical question. If you can't handle newbies, then don't.

Music is not limited by what you use. its limited by your skills as a composer to create the melody, harmonies and progressions. It honesly dosnt matter how you make it, as long as you are happy with the result.

People have made music with pianos with forks stuck in them. Others have made music that is silence for a set amount of time. Others have made music by pushing lockers out of third story windows, interluded by the sound of detuned radios. It isnt a matter of how its made, its a matter of what they see as music, and what the audience views as art.

Any sound can be music, as long as you're open and prepared enough to look deeply into what it means.

Music is the same as art. It is an art.

Maybie, if you just use, like, VJay or somthing, you have a point.
You also have a point that ext-PC music may sound better but for us poor people, expensive pirated software is all we have, and with new software capable of emulating this ridiculously accurately at a fraction of the cost, why pay more?

Oh.

Software is for chumps, idiots and babies.

Well, what about Pro Tools? I know you're talking about making the sounds and everything on software and such...But still, you seem pretty stern saying there's no posible way in hell to record...There are TONS of Plug-Ins, combinations of synthesizers and effects, and plenty of other things to meld with your creativity. Indeed, owning a mixer and etc. does make it easier, but in digital editing, you do all of that stuff on the moniter.

it is pretty dificult to record audio with no microphones.

Music is the same as art. It is an art.

And music takes talent, and wehn recording or making it you will need the knowledge of how to play atleast one instrument and the right equipment.

For making REAL music, there is soo much more you cna do with the knowledge of how to play an instrument, than arranging loops of sounds on a program on your computer.

Some things do live in cybersapce, like video games, the internet, etc... but music does not belong there.

Real music is any sound, any noise, and sequence.

NOBODY on the audio portal uses software that makes music out of loops. Most of them can play an instrument, and a lot of that play instruments directly into the computer to arrange it.

Assuming music is made out of loops on computers shows you don't know much about software. There really isnt much of a difference. You still compose the music. You say where the notes are going to be, and when they will sound. You say how many instruments play at once, what they sound like, apply effects, add vocals.

I can understand that software can make music sound a bit too 'perfect', with timing being completely accurate, but you can eaisly make somthing on software that is origional, sounds wonderful, and people wouldnt know any better unless you told them.

I would KILL to have my own studio, but even if i did have one, its very hard for a single person to make a full track with different layers and make it sound good, while being able to dynamicaly change bits you want to change. To make music on your own, you almost have to use some sort of software.

Lets face it, what studio is complete without a computer plugged in for mixing, or a copy of protools for touching up. Infact, i challenge you to find a commercial studio without a computer.

Dont knock it until you've tried it.

Do you even knwo what i'm talking about?
I said that music SHOULD NOT only be made with software, with NO Instruments, because that is what teh cdreator of this topic is trying to do, make music ONLY with a program on his computer.

And making it with ONLY software, it dosnt ahve the same skill it has with recoding or playing with an instrument, and you will NEVER be able to play live music that way, it just kills the whole idea.

It would be cool though. With the right hallucinogenics, the right music, and the right vusial effects.....you just might be able to pull it off!

Yeah tharfika...you're gay. That's a really outlandish claim you make. I don't see the difference between using a virtual instrument on a pc, and the same instrument in real life. If you know abit about composing, sequencing and some basic theory, you'll be able to reproduct the same part on either a grand piano, or a string of virtual TB-303s :P.

And to the smartarses who suggested how I should convey my sarcasm :P. Yes, I know you can use <sarcasm></sarcasm>. But come on, that makes it tooo obvious. I thought what I said in my post made it obvious enough that I was taking the piss :P
