I hate it we all hate it.
How high will the gas prices go up in the next week or 2?

Go back to 1980, When the price of gasoline in present day money would be $3.54 a gallon. I don't hate it because I know I have no control over it. Now cigarette prices, that is something that I am mad about.

That is a good point - and lines are non-existant or short at the pump - unlike 1980.

Now cigarette prices, that is something that I am mad about.

Considering the fact that most of the Gulf's oil has been temporarily cut, most of the gas coming from other places is probaly going to be raised because they know they can make money from the world's leading user in gas. So all in all, were stuck in a pile of mud...

opec didnt touch gas prices. its simple supply and demand our supply went down the demand reamained the same. prices go up. it aint rocket surgery

And OPEC controls the supply of oil to match the demand, keeping oil prices high. I don't blame them, Saudi Arabia has about 3 things; Oil, sand, and camel shit. The oil will run out and they need to put together a real economy.

OPEC does supply alot of oil, but if they are at near full production levels, then how can they supply more? If the oil refining companies in North America had built more refineries in the last 25 years then the supply of gasoline would be alot higher, hence dropping the price of gasoline. But that would also cut into the refineries record profits they are experiencing nowadays.

Alot of gas refinaries are closing to creat a higher demand for gas thus making the gas prices increase.

They could have alot of them open though.

I personally can remember when they were 56¢ a gallon. If it was that way today, I could drive for 2 weeks on $5 in gasoline.

I personally think it's good that gas prices are this high. Right now, it's high enough that people are exploring alternate methods of transit, alternative fuels, and reducing unnecessary travel, but yet it's not so high that it's paralyzing the economy--it would have been disasterous had they suddenly skyrocketed to $7 or $8/gallon.

$4 to $5 for a cup of Joe? I didn't know it was that high (I never go there). For about $55 at Wal-Mart, you can get your own espresso/cappucino maker. I did.

You don't just find a spot, hey this is nice and drill a hole there and magically find oil. The world's oil reserves are probally fairly low as it is, going to start becomming harder to find new oil wells soon anyways. You know oil doesn't grow on trees.

But would cut in profits so probally not going to happen, plus why build more refineries when we may run out of oil in the next 50 years or so? Refineries cost money.

Well I'm not saying they should go out and build a load of refineries now, I was stating that if they had started building more in say the 80s and 90s, they would be producing cheaper gasoline today. But again, there goes thier record profits.

Coal could be used as alternate energy resource over oil. However, we should only use more coal as a temporary solution, not as a panacea for the energy problem. After all, coal is a somewhat limited resource, too.
