Signs wasn't scary. Signs wasn't good. Signs was ruined by M. Night's necessity for gentleness. If I saw a foot of a non-human (human, even) pass through the seven foot tall corn stalks less than ten feet away from me, I'd run (like he did) but wouldn't walk into the house slowly and argue with my kids and have a democratic vote over whether we should stay or not. It's an unrealistic movie in the only part of the movie that's supposed to be realistic. Same with M. Night's own part where he was just sitting in his car, talking mellow. People aren't like that. He did good on The Sixth Sense and pretty good on Unbreakable, but Wide Awake Now, Signs, and The Village do it very badly.

Since I was little I was watching movies like The Shinning, and The Exorcist. And to this day I have yet to see a movie that is actually scary.
Last night I watched The Amityville Horror, good movie...Not scary tho.
When I finally watch a movie that scares me, I'll get back to yah.

Personally, I love it. I think the problem is it wasn't marketed properly. The trailer makes it look like a horror movie. However, when you watch it, it's more of a "character study", quoting someone on IMDb. As for the twist at the end, it certainly didn't bother me.
