You can get 2-in-1 1/4 inch input jacks so you can fit two microphones in one jack. So, basically, you can mic up your kit, and plug it in one socket, for about five quid/bucks! These 1/4 inch 2-in-1 jacks cost about 79 pence/cents each.

Try that.

Don't do it. It will sound terrible and be a waste of time and money. If you set it up with a whole bunch of jack plugs, there is no way that you can change the volume for each mic, you won't be able to pan, or fix up eq etc.

The guy at the store was right. The only feasible way of hooking more than two mics up to your computer at line level is to get a mixer.

You don't need to spend a lot on a mixer. Check out behringer. They have 8 channel mixers that go pretty darn cheap on eBay.

Ah budget recording.. thank god for my setup...

Well you can save yourself the hassle of getting a mixer by getting recording equipment with a mixer built into it, if your recording into a computer, theres a few decent software mixers out there with several input capabilitys, but if your miccing into the mic jack its gonna sound *farts* crap.

Get some good mic's aswell, or else it will sound chunkty and scrappy and blergh horrible.

set your mics:
1) above the set
2) at the bass drum

++++++++++++
set those mics in to the mixer board, plug mixer into software..record
that's what we do

also, if you set up mics in that fashion with the 2-in-1's, if you happen to have any mics that need phantom power, they aren't gonna work...like they said, get a multitrack recording program. pro tools has an mbox that comes with it, with two 1/4" i/o's. you can also use trs cables with it. it'll only run you a few hundred, since they're liquidating the old model from their website, here
