I wouldnt go as far as to say all americans are stupid. But in my sophomore World History class no one seems to know anything that isnt related to US history. I just transferred here, and we had a quiz about historical and current events. No one could answer when WWII started in Europe, no one knew knew what the Munich Agreement of 1938 was or where the Sudetenland was (which is pretty shocking for history students). No one could name the Chechnyans as the group that attacked the Russian school.

I have to say, I was shocked by how little the people knew.

Our schools teach zero world history. A very limited amount of ancient history is taught but not world history. My school only this year started offering it as an elective.

Well, every country has a few influential minority.

And I think most people are ignorant and poorly educated. The school system of math is extremely slow. I'd say move algebra to around 4th grade, geometry 5th grade, algebra 2 6th grade, trig/precalc 7th grade, calc 8th grade. This is all feasible if people focused more on studying. The problem is the the attitude in schools and inept teachers. And that most people don't focus too hard on education. Seriously, I think it's all possible to do for normal kids, but it would take a great amount of time and effort (which the parents will have to do).

I feel that a great deal of human potential is left untapped. Plus, I probably have a strong bias against Americans in history, because I always grew up hearing how all the famous Americans were extolled. Well, now I feel the colonists were just plain ungrateful for the American Revolution. Luckily, it turned out all right, though.

Industrial power, I'd say. America's uninvolvement with the World Wars has allowed it to become a giant in the world. Russia was only a superpower because it is huge.
