Do you think that there would be any possible way that you could incorperate a post editing button somewhere on the BBS. I think that this would make it a lot easier for people to fix their errors (they wouldn't have to make a completely new post). Plus if somebody makes a very large error this could solve a massive problem that they would not be able to sleep on. This would also reduce the amount of double posting while having the same effect on stress.

Thanks

Yes, Wade, could this somehow be incorporated? The Clock Crew BBS has this option to edit posts, so I think it might be good for NG to incorporate this aspect as well.

Don't you think that would slow down the bbs even more? It is already under too much stress as it is... Don't feed a puppy large bones!

I doubt it would slow it down
the preview button I mean...
because all a preview does is quickly format the text you typed so it appears as if its submitted, but no data would be transfered until you tell it to

Thats still another page for the bbs to load. But i dont get previews...is it that hard to just re-read what is in the original text box before you post?

They dont have an edit feature cause they dont want someone saying something, have people reply, then have the original person edit the orignal post and try to make everyone look like retards. I prolly explained that wrong, but maybe you get it.

Just re read before your post if its that big a deal.

Well I know like on ezboards that it says who edited the post, and when they did it. That way, if someone tried to go back and edit a stupid comment they made to avoid looking like a fucktard, everyone would know they made the edit.

Besides, a lot of people really don't want to re-read their posts (even though they should because proofreading is an important writing skill you learn in school). I know that personally, I hardly ever go back and read over my posts, unless I say something which I think is excessively important. Otherwise, yeah I'd love a post editing option. I guess if it would be too much of a hassle or cause lag or whatever, then just proofreading is fine, though.

Well than they can edit their posts. I mean come on, if you say something that you didnt mean to and some people are flaming you for it, well than you feel like a dick and are embarassed. If you could at least edit your post people would stop bashing you for something that you accidentally typed in. It prevents many feudes and would very well minimize the double post problem. Plus if somebodys really getting bashed hard they would be able to delete the thread so people would shut up. Plus it gets annoying forgetting to say something and then having to make a whole new post for it.

Most bbs previews do a little more than reformat, they also check for html errors and the like, that requires it to be sent to the php... and thus would require another post/get to the server, for all posts...

I never use preview buttons anyway.. If I goof up, I goof up... Everybody makes mistakes.

But few make cake...

Letting people edit is just a bad idea. If people responded negatively to what you just said, you could simply go back and change your initial post completely, making the other people look stupid. If you could completely change what you say, the BBS would just be pure madness, threads just would stop making sense. It's good the way it is, what I say is there FOREVER, even if someone got ahold of my account.

Dude, an "edit" button would be anarchy! People could completely change their posts if they wanted to, and it could render entire threads indecipharable or at the very LEAST confusing. And if threads don't make sense, there's no point in a BBS. The greatness of this BBS is that conversations (albeit time-delayed ones) take place. Human drama! It's not just somebody posting a topic about something and everybody else posting comments soley on that topic. People post a topic, and other people branch off in slightly different directions with their comments and people reply to THOSE with new twists and ideas, and so on. It's a linear thing. If people can choose to take back what they said, any posts made in reference to that post suddenly aren't relevant at all! This BBS isn't merely a fourum for people to post pointless observations and have people comment on that observation! Argument takes place! Conflict! This conflict takes place in order with the past set in stone, like in real life. If you introduce the "time travel" of the edit button, there will be little point in staying in this suddenly non-time-dependant universe of ours, our little former oasis of the internet...

...It's good the way it is now, where everything you say is there forever. When I spend 30 min thinking of a post and typing it, I want to know it is there forever. I want it ironclad. If you type something stupid or offensive? Why, that's the the essence of human interaction!! People can look back at past posts and know that that was what was orignally written, not what the author decided to amend it to months later...I can't belive how many people are in favor of the edit button, it would just be madness!

Is your spell checker broken in Microsoft Word? Type out your post in word and use the spell checker. When everything is right just copy and paste it to your post! Thats right, 2nd post, Oh, I used this method for this post. Hope it helps! C.U.Later!!
