ReBirth = Freeware!!!

Guess what people? As of the 1st of September, ReBirth RB-338 has gone freeware!

After roughly 10 years of development and support for the software, Propellerheads have finally let it die, and have been nice enough to release it to the public, along with all the mods. Hope this means that later they'll release it as open source :D.

Anyway, all you budding musos, here's another free piece of music software to add to your lists.

Okay, on a scale of 1 through 10, what would you rate ReBirth, in comparison to other programs such as FrootyLoops or whatever? (1 being lowest, 10 being highest)

Hard comparison to make. Depends on the kind of music you want to make. If you want to make acid house, then all you need is ReBirth. Anything beyond requiring a couple of TB-303's, a TR-808 and a TR-909, you'll be better off with Fruityloops or Reason.

However, comparing the prices of Fruityloops and ReBirth, ReBirth gets a 10. If you haven't tried it out yet, you're in for a treat!

Well professionals like the chemical brothers, daft punk and many others have all used it (daft punk were gonna bring out a mod for it, but unfortunately it never materialised)... anyway, its a ledgendary piece of software with a cult status because it faithfully emulates 3 of the most influential electronic instruments of our time (tb303, tr808, tr909). and the last i heard if you're lucky enough to find a hardware 303 for sale it'll set you back a big ol' sum o' money.

Simply, FL doesnt have any native synths that sound as good, and Reason - well you can get similar sounds out of it but just doesnt sound as genuine.

Shame about the D/L rates at the moment though.. it feels like im using a 56k again! 7 hours for me and counting!

Anybody have any alternative links for the ReBirth download? Preferably a well-seeded torrent or high-speed server. Last time I tried to DL through the ReBirth page, it downloaded at 4kb/s, which would've taken about 36 hours. So... Yeah.

There isn't any 'main' program...you have to download the full CD ISO.

i didnt mean that, i meant the full version basicly the main, i could only find mods on the site.

I got a full download, but the iso wont open either. It cant be corrupt, because winrar would have told me if it was.

I just grabbed it - took about 4 minutes... Gotta love that FIOS man!!

Sorry for the double post ...

ISO worked fine for me - downloaded from the link on the propellerhead site through Azureus - unzipped the ISO and burned the image with Nero - plus grabbed all of the mods from the propellerhead site. That's always nice...

I wonder what the redistribution terms are - I'll check on it and if it's legal I'll zip all of the mods up into one package for any of you who may want them without clicking 54 separate links...

Completely legal to distribute ReBirth and the mods, as long as you don't modify them and/or sell them.

Since I've had enough experiences and I know how "dedicated people" can sound here I wont ask how it is.I'll try it out, and if it's like reason then i guess i wont stick with it.
