I've been slow with this. D:

Yes, he has some very successful stuff, but at the same time he changed his appearance, image and musical style like not many other artists. And I think that this aspect of his artistic work is underappreciated.

You are spot on with the last sentence. Now THAT is what's underappreciated. However, regardless of his level of appreciation he still makes fantastic music. Still now I'm listening to some lesser known songs of his and still enjoy what I hear.

Can't argue with the selection of stuff that you got. I could do with more Kraftwerk myself and I'm sure I did listen to Autobahn on Spotify at some point.
I think they even have the 22 minute version of the title track, not just the 4 minute "radio edit".

Yep, they did. I wanted to hear the 22 minute version since I'm a sucker for long songs. I really should try out more of their music since all I have is The Man Machine.

I would like to pick up some CDs this month but I think I really should see about getting a new external hard drive. The one I have now is becoming a bit of a problem due to hard drive space just not being big enough for me anymore so I want to get something bigger that also doesn't have to use a power cable just to run it.
I know the pain. I have TWO external hard drives and it's just a pain in the ass, when the USB cable tilts ever so slightly in the port, the hard drive disconnects. Also, one of my USB ports doesn't work properly anymore...

I did pick up an external hard drive two weeks ago. Makes life much easier to record game footage for my Let's Plays. However, my laptop performs like shit with recording game footage, even with Mega Drive games. I didn't get a new external hard drive just for that, though. I did get a portable one so it only plugs into the USB and where I have my laptop feels tidier now.

That's pretty understandable. I mean, you can't force yourself to like something. I personally try to keep an open mind for things like games and music. It's probably why I don't really hate any video game I've played besides The Mask of Zorro.

Heh, there's plenty of crap games out there. I used to tolerate some that were more difficult to control with but generally I find that there isn't much time to play everything so I'd rather only go with what I'm sure I'm going to enjoy.

That was ongoing work for 18 months with some gaps in between. I started my icon modding duties from when it had began to the launch of the 2012 redesign which was around then I had stopped. I did take a few months break in late 2010/early 2011 due to being in full time work but when it came to less hours and sadly unemployment not too long after, I gave myself time to make more icons again.
Even in the span of 18 months, that still sounds very tedious. That's at least 29 icons a day! I don't think I'd be able make nearly that many if I was the one to do that.

Some days I easily did over 100 icons and I'm sure one day I did 250 icons. It was extreme work but that was from a time ago. There may be still yet more games and movies that need modern icons but 16,000 for the whole site is still good enough. At that time I had covered 10% of the whole portal which also included genre modding.

I've been trying to play Ecco on the 3DS and the controls for it feel weird when being used to the Mega Drive controls.
Most Genesis games were just meant for the original controller. Ever try doing the character specific special moves on Golden Axe 3 without a Genesis controller? To put it bluntly; that crap hurts your thumb if that controller doesn't have an analog stick.

Yep, I tried playing Mega Drive games on my PS3 controller and it feels really weird. However, if it's a mean to play it best on the emulator then that's what I'll have to do. Sadly, my laptop is getting really shit at recording game footage, even with Mega Drive games so at this point it'd be a lot easier to use the DVD recorder.

Also, how good are the Ecco games? I haven't really played them (excluding their easy trophy requirements in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection) but my brother hates them with a passion for some reason.

I really don't get the hate for the games. I'm not sure why Ecco gets some hate while everything else from that console is praised. The worst I can point out is that sometimes the levels can be confusing to navigate but apart from that it's really not that bad.

Yeah, that was the one. From what I recalled the peripheral did work but I wasn't so big into the game. I probably still have that and the game somewhere in my house.
That's actually a game I really want to try. Even if the bongos are responsive, do you absolutely need them to play the game?

Yep, you can still use it without the bongos just like how you can play Guitar Hero without the guitar.

RE5 is easily one of the weakest from the series. It's not bad but it had seen better days. Shame you're not able to play RE4 due to the faults with the Wii. When you find a way to play it, make it a high priority for your time you spend on entertainment purposes since it's one hell of a game.
I personally really liked RE5 a lot. It had pretty good atmosphere and had some pretty challenging points to it. Especially if you picked Professional mode and turned off infinite ammo, the game would just destroy me. As for RE4, I should be able to play it once my brother buys me a Wii U when Smash 4 comes out. Specifically when there's a Wii U + Smash 4 bundle, otherwise it'll be awhile until he buys me one.

I'll possibly give RE5 another shot but to me, it could have been better in some ways but it's not as bad as some make it out to be. RE6 on the other hand, I don't even want to know what that's like.

Yeah, recording live video on your PC/Laptop is a real bitch. I tried recording Mario on an NES emulator. But the emulator ran so slow that you could consider it cheating.

so i spend a nice, short week in mexico visiting family and it was nice to be down there and relax. kicking back at the ranch and catching up with tios y primos was swell, and was even able to catch a quinceañera first day i was there! and that was a fun dance to have attended. overall, i had a great time! i only regret not fully grasping spanish to hold a full conversation with people. coming back i now intend to learn it completely and perhaps even get to a third language as well.

and so i pose to you a couple of questions; do you have family in another country, and when was the last time you have visited them? if neither of those questions interest you, how about languages? do you know more than one?

At 5/11/14 04:02 AM, SmashLuigiFan1 wrote: To be honest, the characters and the plot are what I love the most about Super Paper Mario the most. I also really love the change in gameplay, as I'm the kind of person who must find every single hidden item, coin, enemy, or anything miscellaneous and collect/destroy it, so I really enjoy the flipping aspect of the game.

the flipping aspect was indeed great. opened up more options for solving puzzles and approaching enemies.

I'm nearly done with the chapter (ranked 4 so far) and I'm really looking forward to fighting him. This chapter was pretty awesome, but I hope there aren't any "one-opportunity-only" secrets in it because those suck.

as i recall, there are none of those "one-opportunity-only" secrets but i am not so sure. if anything i missed those secrets myself haha.

Even though the original Paper Mario has the most memorable music, I actually enjoy TTYD's more. TTYD has an amazing soundtrack (so far, anyway) but the only problem with it, like I mentioned before, is that I can't remember how any of it sounded like when I'm not playing.

i hear ya. it is mostly ambiance, so hearing outside of the game and not in the environment you associate it with would prolly slip past a mind.

Yeah, that sounds pretty lame to be honest. I'm sure it's still a good game, though. But, like any other handheld game past the GBA, there's an extremely small chance I'll have to even play it.
Also, is it true that the locations are your typical Mario locations? Like Ice World, Fire World, Desert World, etc.?

as i have encountered so far, there is a Desert World. have yet to reach an Ice World or Fire World, though if i do that would be quite a bit of a letdown if it indeed follows typical locations.

Considering how the N64 has about 5 or so fighting games for it (two of which are the Fighter's Destiny games, which are very innovative), I should look into Killer Instinct Gold. It's not too expensive, is it?
shouldn't be, no. online or in some store selling older games, you can find it around the $20-$30 range. you could order it off amazon; i have found it reliable in my experience if you choose to use that.
Alright then, I might buy if I get the chance to. I kind of want to try it out first before I'd buy it, though.

if you have not bought it already, you can try it here.
just hit play the game

No family in other countries, but I like to travel to foreign countries

Well, english is my second language. ^^
My first language is german. And I have a tip for you: If you try to pick up a third language, DON'T try to learn german! I hear it's a bitch to learn. Mark Twain once said: "Never knew before what eternity was made for. It is to give some of us a chance to learn German." ;)

I also had four years of french in school, but I never got a hang of that language. I watched a french series a few months ago (with english subtitles) and I was surprised how much french I still could actually understand. Wouldn't have been enough to follow the plot, but I could pick up the odd word or even a whole sentence every now and then. Quite funny.

Come to think about it, do you know who really is an underappreciated artist? Mike Oldfield! Seriously, he's done way too much good stuff and he seems to be hardly appreciated for it. Well, maybe Moonlight Shadow, Shadow on the Wall and To France but not so much else.

Yep, they did. I wanted to hear the 22 minute version since I'm a sucker for long songs. I really should try out more of their music since all I have is The Man Machine.
It's hard to get a hand on their albums, especially if you started collecting vinyl. I payed about 15 euros for "Autobahn", and that's a pretty good deal.

I did pay £15 for The Man Machine. Not so much cheaper on Amazon but at this time I can't really buy so many albums. I really should be using Spotify or something during this time where I'm not gonna get so much new music. This month I am hoping to make a push with the Fourth Doctor cosplay but already I had to pay £47.50 to get my 3DS fixed.

I did pick up an external hard drive two weeks ago. Makes life much easier to record game footage for my Let's Plays.
Ha, I have one hard drive just for storing football matches. >_>

Fair enough man. A lot of the recorded footage I will eventually delete but only after I have made the final versions of the videos. I'm still in the middle of uploading everything for my Tomb Raider 1 LP and have done another game and a half that's also waiting on being uploaded to YouTube when I can. It just sucks that publishing the videos just takes up so much memory on the laptop that it limits me on what I can do while it's doing that.

However, my laptop performs like shit with recording game footage, even with Mega Drive games.
Yeah, recording live video on your PC/Laptop is a real bitch. I tried recording Mario on an NES emulator. But the emulator ran so slow that you could consider it cheating.

Wow, even NES games...

Hmm, haven't heard of it before but I have downloaded it so hopefully it does work a whole lot better than Fraps does for me. It still won't help with the technical issues I have with playing FFVII and IX on the emulator but perhaps it will do a lot better for everything else.

This may sound weird, but I sort of don't consider a game crap until I've played it myself. Games like Sonic 06 aren't as bad as people tell you. But I'd never recommend them because they're not outstanding or special. The only exception to this are games like Big Rigs, Crazy Bus, and Desert Bus, as they literally have no content.

I find Big Rigs to be fucking hilarious so it gets some credit for that but it still doesn't change the fact that it's blatantly an unfinished product.

Seriously, that's pretty awesome that you contributed to a large chunk of the website like that. And yeah, there's a lot of submissions without icons. See here.

What I was doing with icons was clearing out the earliest submissions that were missing icons. I did a bit of that the other day and managed to make a few icons; the first of myself doing any of that in two years. I can't say I'll be doing it all the time but I'd like to do a bit of it when I'm not so focused on other things. When it's just sitting at home, stuff I'd like to do is making karaoke videos, working on Let's Plays (as already stated), watching TV shows and films and hopefully a bit of working out soon enough. For outside, it's night outs and exercising so I have a lot to keep my life going whilst I'm unemployed and single.

How bad is your laptop? I mean, my computer is a low resolution netbook that can't even run CS2 and even I can record Mega Drive games is good quality. I personally use Gens 2.11 when I'm recording and KEGA Fusion when I'm not. Wait, do you record on actual hardware? And I had no clue you did Let's Plays, what games have you done?

Ah, I've been using Fraps which is probably not a good idea. I would try other capture softwares but most sound unreliable. I'll look into Gens 2.11 and see how that goes. I have tried KEGA Fusion to record so maybe that's what I'm doing wrong. As for what I've done with Let's Plays, I won't say what I have in the pipeline but so far I've only been able to upload Let's Play videos for Tomb Raider 1. Each video of mine has taken at least two hours just to publish after editing the video and adding the voice to it.

I really don't get the hate for the games. I'm not sure why Ecco gets some hate while everything else from that console is praised. The worst I can point out is that sometimes the levels can be confusing to navigate but apart from that it's really not that bad.
The game does look pretty interesting and has some nice ambient music from what I've played so far, so I wouldn't mind playing through it. I forgot what my brother personally hated about the game,

I really like the music for the game. It is different for other versions, though, particularly Sega CD. I did download one of the soundtracks but got something completely different to what I heard on the Mega Drive. Will need to pick up the original soundtracks for them and not something that may be from the same game but isn't from what I played.

I'll possibly give RE5 another shot but to me, it could have been better in some ways but it's not as bad as some make it out to be. RE6 on the other hand, I don't even want to know what that's like.
It's decent from what I've seen. They put a lot of focus on physical combat and energy, so they're at least trying to be a little different.

Speaking of Resident Evil, I did see Director's Cut being advertised on the local indie game shop today but I really need to hold back a bit of money so I'll have to let it slide as much as I hate doing that. It'll be best getting it on eBay anyway.

Dammit man, this is a huge sign of slacking... or you're way too busy in the real world... which is always fair enough. For me, I'll put my 10th anniversay down on Google calendar to remind me but after that I'm not gonna focus on any NG birthdays until it gets to 15 and that's if I happen to still be here by then.

WTF man?! How can you miss your 10th anniversary? Ok, it was easy enough for me to remember, since I have enough free time on Christmas to go on NG, haha.

Anyway, congrats!

Come to think about it, do you know who really is an underappreciated artist? Mike Oldfield! Seriously, he's done way too much good stuff and he seems to be hardly appreciated for it. Well, maybe Moonlight Shadow, Shadow on the Wall and To France but not so much else.

Interesting. I don't know anything at all besides those songs. Well, maybe I know more, but I didn't even know Shadow on the Wall and To France is Oldfield's work, heh.

I really should be using Spotify or something during this time where I'm not gonna get so much new music. This month I am hoping to make a push with the Fourth Doctor cosplay but already I had to pay £47.50 to get my 3DS fixed.

I don't use Spotify too much, the ads annoy me. Of course I could just get a premium account, but I don't use Spotify too much... kind of a vicious circle, don't you think? ^^

Ha, I have one hard drive just for storing football matches. >_>
Fair enough man.

Yeah, I really don't know why I started doing that. I downloaded a few matches here and there and then suddendly I ran out of disc space... and then I started downloading matches from Bayern Munich. But since I don't want to watch matches again where they lost or even didn't win (what's the past tense for "to draw" in this context?!) I only download those matches where they actually won... and that's quite a lot lately, heh.
I even once had the WC Finale of 2010, but that sucker was over 8GB big, so I deleted it eventually.

I don't publish too much stuff on youtube, but I know that uploading files can take up a huge amount of processing time. And you always have to be careful with what you are doing besides uploading. If you accidentally close the browser... well, shit.

It was a build in video recorder in the NES emulator. Maybe it was just programmed very badly. But it was also fun doing such a slow run: No enemy could ever hit me, because I had so much time to shoot off a fireball, haha.

Oh wow, I realized I still have the recordings. Maybe I should just upload it to youtube, then.
