Still, extremely high up there so quite an achievement experience wise. I'd be around that level if certain factors hadn't prevented my deposits.
Don't look forward to reaching it once the voting curve comes back into play. D:

I really hope that the voting curve doesn't return. Judging by how ridiculous it was to level up pre-redesign, I find it hard to imagine that the staff would think it was a good idea to bring it back. Surely that would just create the need for another redesign of the levels at some point in the future.

There was apparently the possibility of users who reached level 60 being able to continue to level up past 60, but retaining the same icon. Either that option or added levels would be better than reintroducing the DREADED CURVE, IMO.

We could have it to where only one IP address could only submit two items per day but god forbid anyone on AOL networks who want to submit anything since IP Address tend to be shared by regions.

People still use AOL? :P

Well, the Flash Portal already alerts about AOL and it's IP problems. Maybe the staff could just say "whatever" to AOL users and implement that 2 flashes per IP thing. I believe there aren't many AOLers left, anyway.

A higher blam threshold would be nice but if it was bumped up to closer to 2 or exactly at 2 then what would be the point of voting 2 on things? Sure you could vote 3, but some movies are worth that much but are still worth saving.

I don't get it... If it was, for example, 1.90, it would still get saved if you voted two...

Well thought, it would be a huge responsibility to just leave the submissions in someone else's hands. But the mods could deal only with the recently submitted ones, if they're really concerned about it. Like removing file-swappers instantly, flagged submissions...
As far as I can tell, the Audio Mods don't delete stuff but rather pass them on to Wade and he removes it. Maybe a system like that would be reasonable to be considered or else some way to flag a submission after judgement.

That's a good idea, but who knows when he'll check all those flashes. Maybe if a certain number of mods agree that a submission is stolen/malicious etc... the submission would get deleted automatically. I mean, so many of them couldn't be wrong at the same time, right? That would make things quicker for the staff.

Hahahhaha, I agree. He wasn't even added to the staff page yet :P
That's Stamper's lazy ass not doing anything. :P

Luis could add himself to the page. What is he doing there, getting drunk? :P

Heh, yes my dad is also mostly responsible for my knowledge of 80's music. I got to know U2 thanks to him.

Sweet. Although my dad is probably older than yours (he's 50 now), his musical ''era'' was a bit earlier. He's more fond of 60's/70's music. However, I think he has a tape (yeah, a tape!) with ''Joshua Tree'' in it. I don't know if it works or not, though.

And downloading music is still easy, isn't it?

Eh, not really. I'm concerned about it nowadays, with all the recording companies bitching about it. =/

Ziggy Stardust is a classic. My dad has a live LP which has some song from it, it's really good.
Yeah I heard it was pretty much his best album. I don't know much about his other albums though, and I don't think my dad has any David Bowie CD's or LP's unfortunately.

Get them yourself, why not... =)

Also, I share birthdays with Bowie. =)
Nice! I share birthdays with George W. Bush |= |

Oh, great... =/

I also share birthdays with Elvis Presley.

Ah, Tubular Bells is my Oldfield reference. I like his music, despite having some really long tracks. Also, I think he did the soundtrack to The Exorcist with that album.
Yeah I know he did the soundtrack of The Exorcist. Although I'm not sure what that song was called.

I think Tubular Bells has only two 20-minute tracks, called Tubular Bells I and II.

Never heard that one. =P But if you are interested, try Invisible Touch, or their Live Over Europe 2007, both are great albums.
Oh wait, my bad. The song is called Solsbury Hill actually. And it was made by Peter Gabriel AFTER he left Genesis.

Well, I listened to it, and it's a great song indeed. I'll see if my dad has anything by Peter Gabriel.

In that case I don't know, isn't Sledgehammer one of their songs? I do like that one.

Nope, still Peter Gabriel. :P

The guy with the red guitar? He's awesome. And his technique is admirable, since he does what Hendrix did: left handed with a right handed guitar. And he sings well too.
Yeah the one who sings the part at the beginning. Don't know much about guitar techniques, but indeed the singing is great.

He sings and plays solo guitar really well (even though there are three guitarists, and they alter who makes each solo). He also sings the chorus and plays the solos in "Comfortably Numb''.

Is he perhaps a pretty famous guitarist like Snowy White?

I haven't heard of him before, so...

I thought the backing vocals (the girls) would say something during that part, but we can only hear the synths solo. They have a drink, pretend to play poker for a while and finish the song, right?
Pretty much, but you do hear the dealer shout a few times. Can't hear what he's saying though.

Right... I think there are subtitles in the DVD, though.

Ah, great! It's one of my favourite movies as well, although I don't have the DVD. I really like the Comfortably Numb part, despite being a little "annoying" watching him shaving everything he has. =P

But it's an excellent movie indeed. I have to watch it again someday.
Hehe yeah that part is a bit awkward. But very powerful emotionally though, especially at the solo where you see his flashbacks as a kid.

Indeed. That part and ''The Trial'' as well are very ''touching''.

And to be honest, I'm not that much of a big fan of ''Nuts'' anymore either. I mean... when I hear people calling me Nuts in TF2 in their mics, it feels so... childish. Even if the meaning is balls, mad or nuts itself, it sounds weird.

Either way, I'll keep it since I haven't any better ideas.

EXCELLENT!

just. paste. the. link. Don't turn it into a text-link, leave it as a URL. Simple enough, even grandpa can do it! Then everyone can see it's a link and follow it, whether they're reading in a browser or notepad!
This is why I usually read the whole post before quoting it. Then I click the links and remember what was in them. Easy like that. ;)
I don't have time to read entire posts before quoting. I scan, I open a buncha reply-w/-quote tabs while scrolling through pages of a topic, and then I amass them in notepad for later posting... I mostly read as I'm replying, in notepad... where the link is GONE if it wasn't a URL. Which is why I hate text links and love URL links and use them 95%+ of the time, I'd say. #;-}>

Makes sense. I use notepad for catching up as well, but I usually type everything in the NG posting box itself before organizing everything in notepad.

But yeah, I scroll through posts, read part of them and CLICK THEM LINKS! :)

I'm not as into metal as I am into classic rock, but there's nothing wrong with being into both, man.

That the way it should be. I don't have any problem with music genres, I don't really like labelling them. There are two labels for me: good music and bad music.

I can't believe Bahamut had to counsel you on the wonders of the respawn timer. #;-}>

BTW, long before CS there was Doom, Doom 2, Quake, Quake 2, Unreal + the Unreal Tournament games... and in all of them there was respawn.

CS was somewhat of an aberration.

Sure, but it made you think more before rushing recklessly into the enemies' base. This is why I enjoy the Arena maps in TF2 :)

And the only CS I've ever played is insta-respawn Team DM, basically, which is even funnier, given all of that. #;-}>

Insta-respawn in CS? Never heard of those...

Something like that...

And little gfox would be...?

You should give a listen to "Rock And Roll" and "Black Dog". They're a lot better than Stairway to Heaven.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?

Look, Black Dog is a great song, but I really wouldn't say it's better than Stairway. As for R&R, it definitely isn't. Part of this is just that I'm so damned tired of that song after the last 5 years of it being used in 80% of Cadillac advertisments on TV here in America, but... ugh... so tired of R&R.

Well, I don't get many advertisements with Led Zep songs at all, so... =)

But really, Rock and Roll is possibly my favourite songs from them. I really like that "heavy-blues" style in it. I've listened to Stairway a lot, but I only got into Rock and Roll more recently. So... yeah, maybe I'll change my mind about that when I've listened a lot to R&R

Until then...

Well, it shouldn't be too hard to find it on YouTube, but I can see your point. Mind you, if you try to find footage of Ayrton Senna's death, you've got a really difficult time. Dale Earnhardt is no problem, as that's from 2001, when cameras were everywhere around the track, but Senna had so few people paying attention to that corner, it was just a plume of smoke and dust, as he went off in the background of one shot.

Now, isn't it a huge incompetence to leave a set of metal pillars right next to a curve exit, where the athletes are at nearly 100km/h, and still blame him for the mistake? I haven't heard of anyone dying like that, and it's still his fault? Really, that makes me mad.

The computer model never suggested that the guy would fly off the track at that angle. Ergo, it was his fault. That's what the organisers would say.

No I did, I said my alts will get through the shurikens soon enough and your alts won't even go past level 34 so I won that argument. HA!
But then your alts have to go through the shurikens, while mine do not. Or maybe I'll just find someone who deposits for me until they are out of the shurikens, so they would go past the shurikens, but I wouldn't have to witness it. HA!

Helloween's at level 34 so it's one step closer to leaving the shurikens. HA!

Also: Yeah, as if I would stop just to avoid the nasty shurikens...

But I was willing to stop at the battle axe on the pre-redesign to avoid the nasty staff for a few years. Good thing the redesign came well before I even did that.

There is no way to really prevent this since practically all flash games can be decompiled in some fashion. You just have to hope that people are able to spot them by finding they earned medals out of order i.e. they earned a medal for beating the game while they don't have one for an easy level, etc.

You'll be surprised at how similar things can be caught so quick and easily. I wouldn't be surprised if the staff find a way to detect decompiled flashes.

If you ask me, there's probably uglier ones.

Yep, the shitblade is one of them and I'm glad I never had that level on my main. As for the cupid, it's the least awesome icon in the 40 - 49 range but I'll manage. Hell, I even like the trident and the bone axe.

Levels 58, 59, and 60 are laaaame in my opinion.

58's OK for me, 59 definitely sucks and 60, it's a god icon. How can I say no to that when I reach that particular level?

There was apparently the possibility of users who reached level 60 being able to continue to level up past 60, but retaining the same icon.

I remember you mentioning that to me ages ago. Since Pimp is 2 levels short, we'll see what happens when he gets there.

In case of reviews, yes. In case of B/P it's much harder to find those, as it is pretty hard to tell if someone uses a bot to vote or not (well, the last bot was pretty easy, as he simply got EVERY save possible for a whole week...)

If I was a betting man, I would put my money on the fact that the levels will be similar to the ranks where as people can continue on depositing but it doesn't affect anybody else or increases your level. It would make no sense to have a user spend 11 years just to get to level 60 just to pile on some more.

Not to mention they seems to ran out ides for level icons; shurikens for two levels, wtf?

At 2/27/10 11:00 PM, Sir-Nuts wrote: I don't get it... If it was, for example, 1.90, it would still get saved if you voted two...

Yeah but it's basically pointless because voting a two will only affect the score by a little if you are trying to save it.

That's a good idea, but who knows when he'll check all those flashes. Maybe if a certain number of mods agree that a submission is stolen/malicious etc... the submission would get deleted automatically. I mean, so many of them couldn't be wrong at the same time, right? That would make things quicker for the staff.

You never know with the power of one person's opinion; some people can be lazy and just pass it off without checking it out.

Luis could add himself to the page. What is he doing there, getting drunk?

Most of the staff is drunk at any given time of the day.

Not much difference then. My dad is.. 48 now I think. But he used to be a DJ in the 80's at some small hang-out place for young people. I guess that's why he must prefer that era.

And a tape? :p I haven't seen one of those anymore since I was seven or so.

And downloading music is still easy, isn't it?
Eh, not really. I'm concerned about it nowadays, with all the recording companies bitching about it. =/

Oh yeah, true. Seems to be more and more bitching going on nowadays. I remember recently there was some discussion going on again in our government that people might get fined if they put music videos from youtube on their profile pages (like on facebook, myspace etc.). Luckily not many people supported that plan though, but I can see it happening in the future.

Yeah I heard it was pretty much his best album. I don't know much about his other albums though, and I don't think my dad has any David Bowie CD's or LP's unfortunately.
Get them yourself, why not... =)

Perhaps not a bad idea.

Yeah I know he did the soundtrack of The Exorcist. Although I'm not sure what that song was called.
I think Tubular Bells has only two 20-minute tracks, called Tubular Bells I and II.

Really? But they must be split up then in different parts, because I remember I had some part called 'Finale' on my MP3 coming from the Tubular Bells album.

In that case I don't know, isn't Sledgehammer one of their songs? I do like that one.
Nope, still Peter Gabriel. :P

Aw =(

Genesis is a pretty confusing band I guess. I think I must know some of their songs, but they could be from Peter Gabriel's or Phil Collins' solo-careers as well.

Is he perhaps a pretty famous guitarist like Snowy White?
I haven't heard of him before, so...

Snowy White is one of the other guitarists, the oldest one I think. And someone once wrote that he could be considered the sixth Pink Floyd member. He used to tour with Pink Floyd occasionally and now he tours with Roger Waters. I thought he was with them on the Animals tour and it could be that he even did some of the guitars on that album.

Also I thought he had some solo career once, but I guess he never really got world famous with that.

Hehe yeah that part is a bit awkward. But very powerful emotionally though, especially at the solo where you see his flashbacks as a kid.
Indeed. That part and ''The Trial'' as well are very ''touching''.

Agreed. The whole movie was actually very touching I think. At least it left a great impression on me after I first watched it.

Well... I know a lot of people who are big fans of Muse, but for some reason I have never liked them all that much. I think it's mostly because of their singer (Matt Bellamy?). I just think he sounds very whiney.

Well, it shouldn't be too hard to find it on YouTube, but I can see your point. Mind you, if you try to find footage of Ayrton Senna's death, you've got a really difficult time.

Not really... since he was Brazilian, there's footage being shown every anniversary of him. Either on TV or on local websites, I've seen it innumerous times. It isn't that shocking, though, because of the dust clouds and we not being able to see him.

Senna had so few people paying attention to that corner, it was just a plume of smoke and dust, as he went off in the background of one shot.

You know, he didn't want to race that day because he had a bad feeling about that track... He shouldn't have raced that day.

Yeah... you can't predict everything via a computer. We're humans, mistakes are made all the time. That track got the infamous nickname of "death track"in our local transmissions.

Yes you should. :P

I'm between German, Italian and Spanish. Spanish would be more useful, since our neighbour countries all speak Spanish. But part of my family is German/Italian... Choices, choices...

And what's worse - the TV channel that's broadcasting the Olympics here shows the accident quite often. They don't freeze the image before he crashed, it's horrible. I don't know what they're thinking, it's inhuman showing that repeatedly.
I only saw the video once and the TV station froze the image right after he flew out of the bobsled run and I think that already was too much...

Lucky you - they were looping it over and over again in here.

Maybe we could have them split into Flash reviews and misc reviews, with all the others...
But then only flash reviews would stay out as a singe stat.

Sure, but they are a lot more common than audio/art reviews... I would gather them in a single stat. :)

Yeah but it's basically pointless because voting a two will only affect the score by a little if you are trying to save it.

Hmm, I get it... But if we voted two, then it deserved to be voted like that. But yeah... maybe 1.80, then.

DEMOD! DEMOD! =P

Luis could add himself to the page. What is he doing there, getting drunk?
Most of the staff is drunk at any given time of the day. :P

Hahahahha, I saw that as well. I really wonder what is in their fridges...

Possibly a bunch of beer & other alcoholic things.

I do, carnaval in Brazil must be awesome 0.0

Depends... sure, there are parties pretty much everywhere you go to, but the amount of irresponsible people is just stunning. This year, I think we broke the record for deaths/injuries, mostly because of car accidents. Despite all the warnings, we managed to do it. >:(

Just had a whole week off myself though, but it's only been boring and rainy out here. Having done much but hanging around doing nothing.

I didn't do much during carnival either, aside from watching Avatar. :)

It's a great movie, but the ending is predictable since the beginning.

Sweet. Although my dad is probably older than yours (he's 50 now), his musical ''era'' was a bit earlier. He's more fond of 60's/70's music. However, I think he has a tape (yeah, a tape!) with ''Joshua Tree'' in it. I don't know if it works or not, though.
Not much difference then. My dad is.. 48 now I think. But he used to be a DJ in the 80's at some small hang-out place for young people. I guess that's why he must prefer that era.

Really? That's awesome! He must know a lot about the 80s, then.

Also, my dad is a little bit oldschool: he bought a leather jacket the other day - he looked like a bald Billy Idol. :P

And a tape? :p I haven't seen one of those anymore since I was seven or so.

Hahahaha, we used to have a car which still had a tape player, and we actually used it often!

But yeah, there's a tape player right next to me, i think it still works, despite being stopped for a while now. And there's a 12-pack of recording tapes in a drawer here, and it's still locked. My dad used them a lot back in the day. :)

Seriously? The recording companies have gone that low now?

Really, I think the artists like when their music is spread like that. It's more fame for them, more people will appreciate their music. That's why independent labels (like Domino [Franz Ferdinand, Dirty Projectors...]) are great - they don't really mind about that.

I think Tubular Bells has only two 20-minute tracks, called Tubular Bells I and II.
Really? But they must be split up then in different parts, because I remember I had some part called 'Finale' on my MP3 coming from the Tubular Bells album.

Well... on the back of the disc it's written just "Tubular Bells" part I and II, and it's only split due to the original vinyl recording, I think. But the song itself changes a lot during it's ~20 minutes, so it's possible that it's split.

Genesis is a pretty confusing band I guess. I think I must know some of their songs, but they could be from Peter Gabriel's or Phil Collins' solo-careers as well.

They have great songs, though. Really, give "Invisible Touch" a listen. :)

Ah, alright then. I read that he was playing with Pink Floyd during the Wall tour as well as recording some guitar parts in some albums. Weird, I've never heard of him before.

Also I thought he had some solo career once, but I guess he never really got world famous with that.

I'd guess he's more of a ''special participation'' guitarist, then.

Indeed. That part and ''The Trial'' as well are very ''touching''.
Agreed. The whole movie was actually very touching I think. At least it left a great impression on me after I first watched it.

Yeah, but it's a little weird as well. I mean, who becomes a Nazi leader overnight? :P

But I think that must mean something else, metaphorically...

I also recommend Muse. I have already seen them live, and I'm proud of that. =)
Well... I know a lot of people who are big fans of Muse, but for some reason I have never liked them all that much. I think it's mostly because of their singer (Matt Bellamy?). I just think he sounds very whiney.

Yup, that would be Matthew Bellamy.

And yeah, his singing sometimes is weird. In Supermassive Black Hole, he sings in falsetto, but it isn't very good. Although I really like Muse, their songs are so full of energy! :)

Tom made a thread about how hardcore Corky52 was though. :P

Hello, Mr. hardcore user with lots of friends! Hahahahaha, I remember that.

Anyone knows if the "friends system'' is still on the backburner?

You know, when the redesign dropped (in 2007, which in internet time is like a gazillion years ago now), I HATED level 36.

Maybe it's the fact that the yellow aura makes every level look so much better, or perhaps I've just mellowed out with age (lol), but it really doesn't seem so bad to me now. In fact, I'm looking forward to getting it more than I'm looking forward to getting level 35 in 3-4 days.

Maybe the fluffy part of the tomahawk coupled with the fab aura is just making the icon as a whole too girly? ;P

Oh yeah, and this is my 11,000th post. :)
