Alternative Character Battle 2 - Battle 10: Engineer vs Dogen

Today, I entered the Top 200 in EXP! Sadly, I couldn't be exactly #200 but oh well, I'll take the extra rank for granted. I entered the top 250 on 19th July 2009 so that's taken me almost 7 months from 250 to 200. I'm guessing I won't see a top 150 entry until the end of the year.

Also, I decided to make my Top 10 metal intros but bare in mind that due to copyright claims, you may not be able to see this video. :( WMG and Sony took copyright claim on this video (but it's still up there) the second it was uploaded. Damn!

That makes no sense whatsoever.
It does.

Not when you put Manowar and sucks monkey balls together. Also, that page mentioned AC/DC and not Manowar, lol.

No-one nominated Colonel for the Character Battle so he couldn't do a thing.
The colonel still could have given Soldier a call on his codec.

Why would Colonel talk to Soldier anyway?

Too late for Soldier. However, I wonder if you can do the same thing to psychonauts. Engineer's up against Dogen today and he really needs a helping hand.

Well, we'll see. In time, perhaps, but that's just a pipe dream at present, with so many active depositors above me.

It's a pipedream for all of us. Even top 50 seems like one. Top 100 I know I'll reach eventually.

Heh, I really need to organize my favourites. =P

But I really like Pink Floyd. I remember listening to them since I was 6 years old. My dad used to play "Animals" all the time in his car, and I liked them since the beginning!

6 years old? That's quite young then. I think I really got into Pink Floyd when I turned 17 or so. Before that I never listened to them much and only knew their famous songs.

Yeah, but you could easily split up Dogs in two at that quiet barking point. And I love that song as well, it's probably one of my favorites. Well actually the entire Animals album might be among my favorite Pink Floyd stuff.
Yeah, the song has a pretty big "jamming" part. In a Roger Waters DVD, during that part, some of the bands members stop to play poker in the middle of the stage, with the backing vocals as the dealers. Neat stuff.

Really? I have never seen that performance, but it sounds pretty cool. Can you tell me which DVD that was?

Another Brick in the Wall is indeed another one, although the parts are not that long.
And it's hard to count them as one song, since they're "bonded" with other songs. I mean, you can't listen to parts 1 and 2 without "The Happiest Days In Our Lives" between them. I'd rather listening to The Wall as a whole.

Indeed and the second part does not really set the right tone for the third part. I think you'll need Don't Leave Me Now.

Another album that comes to mind is Ummagumma. I haven't listened to it all that much yet, but I believe there are many songs with many parts on it.
I've never heard it, despite my dad having it (I think). I'll give a listen to some of his old LPs one day, there are some great (and rare) things in there.

All I know is that there is some pretty odd stuff on that album. I do like the song The Narrow Way part 3 very much though.

Heh, so you two got different tastes in music?

And no, iTunes store doesn't have it :( Just the 5/6 minutes versions.

Well there are also other places to get music from.

This is just another example of how Copyright is being misused nowadays... seriously, how much does a simple video where a user does a small compilation of his favorite metal intros hurt the companies? >:(

Yeah I guess the reasoning behind that would be because it would make life difficult for those who legitimately want to add people.

In my opinion, they should make a "more flashes, higher score" thing. For every 10 flashes an account has, the score for other flashes of his to pass should raise. That could work as well.

To me it's not that fact that spam movies pass judgment but what happens afterwords is what really bothers me...

Go man, go!

I'm trying to push for at least 30 a day, but I managed to get over 40 in the past two days. Huzzah!

Heh, that happens. I'd rather put the CD on the computer and play it on order, anyway. I do that with most CDs I have.
On occasion, I do just want one kind of music - when I'm practising for my band, I just stick the playlist on with our repertoire and run through that, without shuffle on, for example.

I do that as well. I've made some playlists, including a Metallica and Iron Maiden setlists for their shows. =)

Yeah, yesterday was a hard day for blams, I got only 9 blams + 3 flagged ones. Soon my saves count will match my blams one. =/
I think I only managed 8. I still cracked 50 B/P though and I'm now within 2 digits of passing gfoxcook :D

Hey, nice! Maybe when you pass him he'll pop up again to congratulate you. He hasn't gained much B/P lately, anyway...

Ah, but we all know who wins all the time (unless it's a HUGE upset!).
Yeah, but it's been a long while since we played a match that means something against Wales ;)

For what cup/league was it, anyway?

Speaking of which, I'll make the FIFA World Cup thread. But should I make it now or wait a little more, closer to the first game date?
Save it for a while - we've only just started talking about the Winter Olympics, so leave it until about May.

Sure. But the 2006 World Cup thread was created in the middle of February... I'll save it for later, anyway.

I started listening to rock in general early as well. It helped me with English and defining what songs I like nowadays. I loved Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Zeppelin, Mike Oldfield, Genesis... All the songs that my dad listens to, basically.

Yeah, the song has a pretty big "jamming" part. In a Roger Waters DVD, during that part, some of the bands members stop to play poker in the middle of the stage, with the backing vocals as the dealers. Neat stuff.

In The Flesh, a really good DVD. It's part Pink Floyd/part Roger Waters' songs.

Agreed. Part 3 has a different... mood from the other 2 parts.

Speaking of which, have you ever watched The Wall movie?

You might as well forget about trying to put mainstream music on Youtube. You should try some other site like Veho.

You know, that doesn't sound like a bad idea. You would think the more as a user submits the better he should get. I like this idea but it might be difficult to implement because they might break out an alt just to submit garbage.

Portal Mods. I've said that a couple of times already, along with a thousand other users.

Eh, I think the staff feels very hesitant about having users mess around with other user submitted content. They typically want all of the responsibility of deleting stuff on Wade or another Staff's shoulders in case they are wrong.

What I really think they can use is another Admin to help carry Wade's burden of dealing with stolen content and such. What's Luis really doing; let's get him to do some work. :)

Yeah, Wade isn't too quick with this stuff due to the volume of PM's he gets. It's been five days since I pm'd him about a stolen submission and it's still here. More staff would be great.

Also, this is my 9000th post!

Hey there. I'm dropping by for both reasons (the achievement type AND the dropping in on teh peops type)... so... good timing, I guess! Seems a little slow around here today... and uh... I have...

107 pages since my last catch-up. Hmmm. Yes. This should be interesting. O_o

So, the 2nd thing (socialisin') will have to wait for another hour or so, as I have to go pick up my better half in a half hour... in the meantime... time for the 1st thing...

Oh, come now. That's true and all... but not a surprise. You leveled up to level 46 back in November, whereas I've been at level 49--before today, that is--since October... there's just more time between levels the higher you go... that's one thing that hasn't changed from ye olde pre-NG-redesign 30-level system that we both knew and loved so well, eh?

I'd rather look on the bright side: I'm one less level away from the 2nd best sword (55) and the 3rd best sword (51)... and ol' gfox is stuck at the 1st best sword (42 for the foreseeable future. It's all gravy, baby! Stay cool!

Annoyingly so, sometimes. I think that she just skips some track to spite me. The softer rock ones, like Floyd just seem to fall into the group that she skips past.

Mind you, I have even managed to get her to sing along in duet with me for Reel Big Fish's "She Has A Girlfriend Now", which is quite funny and an achievement at the same time.

And no, iTunes store doesn't have it :( Just the 5/6 minutes versions.
Well there are also other places to get music from.

Yeah, I'll have a search for it.

22,000 Medal Points

I forgot to post at 21,000 Medal Points, but that doesn't matter anymore I guess.

I told myself that the next time I leveled up or reached a milestone that I would start making lists again like I use to. So here I am and lets see if I can do it a bit longer than I did last time. I do miss this forum and I don't post here that often anymore so this is probably a good way to get back into it.

Looks like I'll have to miss making the lists on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday most of the time because on the weekends I'm either nowhere near a computer or I'm on dial up. Tuesday's will have to be a large list because of this.

So yeah, lists from me start tomorrow. How is everyone doing?

6 years old? That's quite young then. I think I really got into Pink Floyd when I turned 17 or so. Before that I never listened to them much and only knew their famous songs.
I started listening to rock in general early as well. It helped me with English and defining what songs I like nowadays. I loved Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Zeppelin, Mike Oldfield, Genesis... All the songs that my dad listens to, basically.

Well for a long time I've only been listening to U2 and some other 80's and 90's music. Only when I turned 17 or so I got into 60's and 70's classic rock stuff such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Doors, AC/DC etc.

I have also started to listen to David Bowie recently and while I don't like all of his music, he is a very interesting singer in my opinion. I still want to give that Ziggy Stardust album a listen someday.

Led Zeppelin I don't know much about and I'm actually a bit embarrassed there. Only songs I know are Stairway to Heaven (which I don't like) and The Immigrant Song (which I do like). I'm sure that they have more stuff that I will like, but I just haven't been arsed to listen to them yet.

A friend of mine has a Mike Oldfield CD (Tubular Bells) which I've listened to once. I kinda liked his music and I got that 'Finale' song on my MP3 =)

And as for Genesis, I'm not a big fan. But they got a few nice songs, like Salzbury Hill.

Really? I have never seen that performance, but it sounds pretty cool. Can you tell me which DVD that was?
In The Flesh, a really good DVD. It's part Pink Floyd/part Roger Waters' songs.

Oh wait, I remember a friend of mine owns that DVD. He turned it on once, but I wasn't paying attention because we were busy playing a game or something.

Anyway, I'm watching the performance right now. Great performance of the song indeed. Especially the guy who sings David Gilmours part does an excellent job if you ask me. Also I've just seen the poker part you mentioned, but unfortunately the video cuts somewhere in that part. So I didn't see the dealer vocals you were talking about and I can't find the full version either =(

Indeed and the second part does not really set the right tone for the third part. I think you'll need Don't Leave Me Now.
Agreed. Part 3 has a different... mood from the other 2 parts.

Speaking of which, have you ever watched The Wall movie?

Of course I have! As a matter of fact, I got it listed as my favorite movie of all time in my favorite movies section =) Also my girlfriend bought me the DVD a while ago, and I've watched it a couple of times since then.

So she's more of a hardrock AC/DC and Metallica kind of girl then? :p

I got a bit more lucky. My girlfriend and I have a very similar taste in music. She got me into The Beatles and I got her into some U2, Creedence and Pink Floyd. So no fighting over what songs to play.

Alternative Character Battle 2 - Battle 11: Slig vs Ecco

I decided to not bother with YouTube after the video screwing up my channel by not showing any videos at all, so instead of putting my video on there, you can see it on Blip. So far, no complaints but if I ever get a problem with them, I'll take reverend's advice and use Veoh.

Listening to:

Immortal - All Shall Fall

Thanks to:

Coop83. I noticed we're now less than 50 ranks apart. Heh, remember when we were over 100 ranks apart from each other?

You're right about that. Achievements for my main account are a rarity these days. These are my next four achievements to get:

1 + 2) 20,000 EXP + 4x20k (first one too)
3) 21,000 posts (This might come before 20k EXP but we'll see)
4) Level 44

And I won't get level 44 until May.

WMG and Sony took copyright claim on this video (but it's still up there) the second it was uploaded. Damn!
This is just another example of how Copyright is being misused nowadays... seriously, how much does a simple video where a user does a small compilation of his favorite metal intros hurt the companies? >:(

This I find annoying as well. If their copyright claims just threw ads on my video, I wouldn't complain but they took a step further. I wouldn't be surprised if I could find videos of all 10 songs I used and was able to watch them.

No, what YOU believe doesn't matter. :P
Hey, we have been over this already. -.-

I just need to remind you that my opinion is more important. :P

Not when you put Manowar and sucks monkey balls together. Also, that page mentioned AC/DC and not Manowar, lol.
Haha, yeah. I was thinking: "Well, AC/DC isn't that great, but why didn't he put Manowar there?" ^^

Because Manowar are great. I'll admit, that person shouldn't have mentioned AC/DC.

Why would Colonel talk to Soldier anyway?
Because he's a nice guy and doesn't like Mantis at all.

I thought the Colonel was a dick.

You know, that doesn't sound like a bad idea. You would think the more as a user submits the better he should get. I like this idea but it might be difficult to implement because they might break out an alt just to submit garbage.

I thought about that as well, although I didn't come up with any ideas to solve it. =/

But yeah, there are many ways to make things harder for spammers. And please, HIGHER BLAM THRESHOLD. >:(

Portal Mods. I've said that a couple of times already, along with a thousand other users.
Eh, I think the staff feels very hesitant about having users mess around with other user submitted content. They typically want all of the responsibility of deleting stuff on Wade or another Staff's shoulders in case they are wrong.

Well thought, it would be a huge responsibility to just leave the submissions in someone else's hands. But the mods could deal only with the recently submitted ones, if they're really concerned about it. Like removing file-swappers instantly, flagged submissions...

What I really think they can use is another Admin to help carry Wade's burden of dealing with stolen content and such. What's Luis really doing; let's get him to do some work. :)

Hahahhaha, I agree. He wasn't even added to the staff page yet :P

I got to know more about those bands when I was 10 or so. It was either because of my dad or because of my brother's music in the computer. And we had a new computer with internet, downloading music was still easy, so...

I have also started to listen to David Bowie recently and while I don't like all of his music, he is a very interesting singer in my opinion. I still want to give that Ziggy Stardust album a listen someday.

Ziggy Stardust is a classic. My dad has a live LP which has some song from it, it's really good.

Also, I share birthdays with Bowie. =)

You should give a listen to "Rock And Roll" and "Black Dog". They're a lot better than Stairway to Heaven.

A friend of mine has a Mike Oldfield CD (Tubular Bells) which I've listened to once. I kinda liked his music and I got that 'Finale' song on my MP3 =)

Ah, Tubular Bells is my Oldfield reference. I like his music, despite having some really long tracks. Also, I think he did the soundtrack to The Exorcist with that album.

And as for Genesis, I'm not a big fan. But they got a few nice songs, like Salzbury Hill.

Never heard that one. =P But if you are interested, try Invisible Touch, or their Live Over Europe 2007, both are great albums.

In The Flesh, a really good DVD. It's part Pink Floyd/part Roger Waters' songs.
Anyway, I'm watching the performance right now. Great performance of the song indeed. Especially the guy who sings David Gilmours part does an excellent job if you ask me.

The guy with the red guitar? He's awesome. And his technique is admirable, since he does what Hendrix did: left handed with a right handed guitar. And he sings well too.

Also I've just seen the poker part you mentioned, but unfortunately the video cuts somewhere in that part. So I didn't see the dealer vocals you were talking about and I can't find the full version either =(

Heh, I mislead you, sorry. =(

I thought the backing vocals (the girls) would say something during that part, but we can only hear the synths solo. They have a drink, pretend to play poker for a while and finish the song, right?

Speaking of which, have you ever watched The Wall movie?
Of course I have! As a matter of fact, I got it listed as my favorite movie of all time in my favorite movies section =) Also my girlfriend bought me the DVD a while ago, and I've watched it a couple of times since then.

Ah, great! It's one of my favourite movies as well, although I don't have the DVD. I really like the Comfortably Numb part, despite being a little "annoying" watching him shaving everything he has. =P

But it's an excellent movie indeed. I have to watch it again someday.
