Oh, and as other people have said; it's discussed here because this is the forum that comes closest to a debate forum. I think Newgrounds should respect the seperation of church and site and make a seperate forum though. :-)

Religion comes into political post due to the fact that most of our current and past politicians decided to cram and sometimes force their own religion upon us.
Thus if you need to rant about _______ doing _________ eventualy someone is going to pull the "Religion Card"
Theres an old saying for the Bars and Pubs:
"Theres three things you want to bring up, Sex, Politics & Religion"
This is because EVERYONE has their own thoughts and beliefs about these three subjects and THEIRS is always right.

Religion is in the politics section because it's a major issue of debate in politics, as well as the fact that people in the general board are too stupid to understand philosophy, so all philosophy-related topics go here as well.

Okay, I had to skip a few posts since it's about time for me to sleep, but here's something to think about:
<--Skip this ramble and jump to the end for my reply to the original topic-->
On the topic of science:
Most scientific studies attempting to explain our origins have already been explained by other beliefs. Science is just a more physical form of religion, holding visible facts and so-called "sound" theories as truth, until the ACCEPTANCE of being proven wrong. Take, for instance, the evolutionary belief that man came from monkey, due to some second-guessed link between man and ape because of several similarities. It's like thinking, "Hey, you're a lot like me. Maybe you ARE me." Of course, many of these discoveries have been proven wrong and many other scientific theories on origin are plagued with very many holes and falsities. I'm not saying other religions are any better though...
On the topic of religion:
You have several different religions all around the world. There's Christianity (which is probably the most acceptable one), Islam (which encourages death and idolized murder), Judaism, Buddhism (that says man can become a god, which has yet to be proven), Animism (which I have no clue about), Hinduism (who worship several different gods of all shapes and sizes! /sarcasm). I'm not a religious freak, nor do I know very much about other religions, besides Christianity, which I don't know a whole lot about either, but know enough to keep myself in check, and believe in enough to argue FOR it when brought up, as well as argue against it. Anyways... Most religions are based on the SAME basic beliefs, but are twisted to fit their "creator". In Buddhism, one is encouraged to find peace within, and seek a sense of "good" through one's own self. Basically, aspire to be good, and aspire to be god-like, and you will one day achieve it, or something along those lines. Well, I, for one, haven't seen very many miracles brought about through Buddhism, nor Islam either. The same basics go for Christianity and Judaism. I'm not very sure about the others though. Okay, in short, my point is that religion, while widely believed by the "public" to be hoaxes, and held in skepticism by so very many, holds some very emphasized "guidelines" that man should follow, as well as some quite uncanny truths and explanations for the world we know, and the world we wish to know.
Oh, and for that whole Darwin thing:
Darwin was pretty smart, and pretty creative. It takes a man like Darwin to create a theory like evolution, and then later reject his own teachings and beliefs. I'm pretty sure he felt like he had wasted his entire life pursuing it. Of course, there are still so very many people out there who actually believe in it like it's some sort of religion, following it blindly. And, like someone said earlier, it's pretty hard to shake since most people in the U.S. are taught this from a young age, and then get it beaten in to them all through out their school life, rather than being given the chance to study belief systems and other religions.
<--Stop skipping here-->
Where else would religion go though? There's no seperate section for it, and besides, the two topics are tied closely together. There are also topics here that are barely related to politics. So, this is more of an "In-Depth" discussion board, rather than it's title "Politics".

But faith and politics are closely linked. I've said it time and time again.
I have to say that they were one in the same, especially in ancient cultures.
Is it no wonder that Leviticus in the Bible deals with the legislative aspects of religion?
10 Commandments.
Hammurabi code...
Of course, this doesn't mean religion and politics are one in the same--
As clearly many people distinguish the two.

Well, that's a good question. Unfortunatly, some people (like Bush) want their country to be a certain religion. Bush wants America to be Christian.
One rule that is not followed often is called Separation of Church and State . It basically means that religion should not influence laws, and vice versa.
Here are two examples of Church and State not being separated.
1: In some states there are laws that ban abortions, because in some religions it is against their law to have an abortion. Therefore, the idiot politician believes everyone should follow that law. It's a person's business to decide that, not the law's.
2: Gay marriages. In some religions, it's wrong. Bush is a strong supporter of stopping those marriages. (Sorry, I'm not using the G Word because I don't want to get banned.)
Another stupid mix of Church and State.
Religion can be a powerful influence on culture and society. Sadly, people insist on it being the only influence.

Religion and Government are intertwined in many places around the world.
Even in the US while there is a legal seperation of church and state, People's religious views are still going to be shown in their policies. President Bush for example.
And also as others have said, you are more likely to have a decent response on this board rather than on the general.
