There's a Jew Crew, a Catholic Crew, and probably plenty of other groups with a religious slant, so it's about time for a group dedicated to the least religious bunch of people on NG.
To join, you'll have to be prepared for a lot of flaming in this thread, as atheistic threads attract a lot of flaming, but it's all in good fun anyway. Don't incite any hatred, just keep to yourself unless someone else starts it. I suppose.
On top of that, the rules to this club are pretty much the same as the forum rules - no spam, no being racist. Promotion of open-mindedness please.
Have fun. It's pretty bleak, only having death to look forwards to, but I'd rather be like this than in denial, looking forward to some lie about angels and life after death. Honesty is the best policy, especially with yourself.
I dont really see a point in starting a thread about religion or non-religion. I belive in god(partially) but I dont get why the other religions would start those either. Arguing about befiefs is pointless anyway cuz someone will belive something that they belive, and thats human.

It's not a place to argue about beliefs. It's a place for atheists to talk to each other about... Well ya know... Atheist stuff. It's just the same as you going to bible study or church or whatever. It's just being around people who think the same way you do. Nothing wrong with that now is there?

Well you're welcome to, but if you're not an Atheist it's kind of pointless. It makes as much as a hindu joining the catholic crew or a bhuddist joining the Jew crew.
I'm really bored, and I can't sleep. So I made you a new sig, cause I thought your current one could use some improvements.

Ya, for some reason my photo editing software always gives me an error about not having enough memory when I do anything high quality, which makes no sense seeing that i have 3+ GB of RAM. Ah well.

Dude thanks a million! This sig is awesome!

Very well said.
Dear Gentiles, Jews, and any other religious folk,
I just want to leave a short message. First off, I am a Catholic, so dont think otherwise.
I just want to say that if you have a problem with atheists, DONT be an asshole toward them.
How can you call yourselves children of God but instead of trying to convert or preach to the atheists
you just sit here and spam them and insult them? They are human beings just like me and you.
When St. Paul was trying to convince the Ephesians to become Christians when they were proving
stubborn, did he be an asshole? No. He turned to God and prayed. As for all the Biblical characters who were missionaries or people who wanted to talk to atheists or unbelievers, name one who was an asshole. Please, examine yourself. Jesus doesnt force himself in someone's life, so why should you.

In theory, I can be classified as an atheist, the whole god thing just doesn't appeal to me, really. But I have refused to call myself an atheist for years and I kept on searching for faith only to find dead ends each and every time, is because of how snobby some of the atheists over the internet are, yes, not every atheist is a snobby man that spends all day talking about how stupid religion is and how what they believe is is the end all fact that there are no possible ways to have an argument about it, also flying spaghetti monsters.
And don't get me wrong, religious people are not better, not by a long shot, but In short, I do consider atheism(at least, what most people calls atheism) a religion, and what I classify religion is is a group of people comforting each other about how much on what they believe is correct and that there are none otherwise. It's a bit like finding a box and throwing yourself in there along with a lot of other people and then seal the box from the inside in hopes of no other ideas would get it. A true believer questions his or her faith, whether he or she believes in a god like entity or nothing.
This is not a debate about whether or not God exists, but... I forgot about where my point is. Ah here it is, don't be a dick about what you believe in.
You know what would be really neat? These things actually being noticeable.
I read the old testament 2 years ago and have been a Atheist ever since.. I'll join but I don't know exactly what the point of this crew is but I'll join in any flame wars that come by, haha.
You have to draw the line of determination from desperation. What is truly yours would eventually be yours, and what is not, no matter how hard you try, will never be.

Just to talk about religion, and our views on it.

That's more like it. People tend to forget that one of Jesus' own disciples, Thomas, doubted that christ had resurrected from the dead until he had seen it with his own eyes. We are not bad people for being skeptical. We just don't want to waste our time following something that appears so unlikely in our eyes, though if any one of us was to see solid PROOF, we'd turn our ways over instantly. We're not here to attack you as people, we just don't agree that your views are best for you, and for all the other people that follow them, which is exactly how you feel about us. Thanks for being reasonable.

No no I am lol I was just pointing out that if seriously asked, tho one would believe there is no god, he woul admit that it would be nice to know where we came from, that's all. And that's it's an immensly inspiring concept to many people. That's all lol :P

The Old Testament isn't the only religious work out there. Before you became Atheist I would have suggested you look into other religions and faiths, not to convert to them, just to observe other avenues of faith to make a complete decision to be an Atheist afterwards.
Unless of course you did and just didn't mention it. If so disregard the previous sentences.

What do you think about Buddhism? A lot of people I know have referred to it as a religion, but I kind of see it more as a philosophical belief system.
Let me just bring you back to this quote:

No, I've just left a Christian school which I had been in for 5 years, I went to Church before then for two years, I've got an Atheist and a religious side of my family, I've got friends from different religions, I've seen what religious beliefs have done to countries. I hate religion.
Sorry guys if this it pretty much a +1 post, but I just want to say I'm an atheist, or more precisely a physicalist. So if anyone here knows me, well now you know something more about me.
Physicalism is the belief that only the physical world and physical things exist.
My signature was old so I changed it.
I know the feeling goth. I went to catholic school for 8 years.

Buddhism is an Atheistic religion/philosophy. It has a few supernatural elements, such as reincarnation, although I'm against labeling anything as "supernatural," but that's for another discussion. Anyway, I find Buddhism to be more philosophy than religion, if only for the fact that Buddhists don't believe in an almighty god or creator. Yes, they have rituals and prayers, but for solely for meditative purposes. When not taken to the extreme, I find it to be a very sensible avenue of thought that just wants people to be peaceful and compassionate, and what reasonable person doesn't want that?
Hell, Buddha even allegedly said that, and I paraphrase: If what I say doesn't make sense to you, discard it and move on. That alone, to me, makes Buddhism more philosophy than religion.

I didn't go to a religious school, but I lived in western Illinois and most people there are at a whole new level of delusional. I remember in like Junior High School, there was the place called The "In" Zone about 40 minutes from our city, which had 3000 people in it. Every Tuesday, buses would come down to the baptist church in our city and take all the kids out there. This place was the cool place to be. If you didn't go to the in zone, you can kiss any chance of having a girlfriend or being popular away. I know those are petty things, but in junior high, that's a big deal.
The in zone was this place that lured kids into it with Xbox and all this flashy high tech stuff to do. The only catch was after you were done, they had a huge religious sermon and tried any number of black market tactics to try and convert us all over. Guilt trips for coming there and not believing, fear of hell, and BLATANTLY trying to divide the ones who believed from the ones who didn't. Things actually were a little tense at my school for a year or so because the "In" zone completely divided us.
The only way I can think to describe it is the movie Jesus Camp, which is about the propagandistic "summer" camps in the midwest that exist only to try and scare kids into believing and making them feel awkward if they don't agree. If none of you guys have ever seen that, watch it. It's about the best example of how Christianity has become a terrible thing in our nation, almost like a cult. I grew up about an hour and a half from where the documentary takes place. FML. Haha. This ended up being a long ass post!

See, I've really been wanting to research more on Buddhism. There's something about it that intrigues me. I might even 'convert' to Buddhism if it makes enough sense to me once I know more. I couldn't just start following something blindly, I need to be educated.
Hell, I live in Indiana. But there is a program sort of like that at my high school called campus life. Every year they have a retreat were you go to this hotel with thousands of other kids from around the city, and at night you go to this... event were there are skits and speakers and really the general bull shit. trying to convert you, but not coming out front and center with it if you see what I mean.
But all we did there at the hotel was fuck, play video games, and play pranks. Hell, me and some of the boys went to the Brandy's down the street. Hilarious when you consider that this thing is a glorified Jesus Camp.

lol I'd probably do the same thing, both just with friends and to be rebellious against such a thing. Christianity turned me away from boy scouts of america tho, didn't feel comfortable... i liked campin wit friends tho. I miss that lol
