I'm guessing you're American, as they weren't as big over there.

They were an old New Romantic band from the 80's. They had a few hits (Poison Arrow, The Look Of Love (Part One), Ocean Blue, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Tears Are Not Enough and When Smokey Sings).

It comes to me that I've answered stupid topics like this many times and no one seems to listen. There is a big difference between being punk and punk rock.. like the sex pistols.. not punk.. they were put together for one reason.. to make money. Green Day started out as two different punk rock bands, one of which was the Lookouts, and I can't remember the other, but Tre Cool was the drummer of the lookouts when he was 13 or 14.. so you can't say they've always been in it for money, cause I doubt they were making much money at that age. As for being political punk isn't always about being political, kinda like NoFX, you can't tell me a song like Fun Things to Fuck is political, or even better, Please Stop Fucking My Mom. Being punk is about being who you are, not about pleasing morons who wanna bitch about how someone isn't punk on a message board. If you wanna talk about music, talk about why it is good, not about how it doesn't fit a label, and if you don't like the music shut the hell up, end of story.

I have a quick question. What does everyone consider punk? What I think it is and you what everyone else thnks it is is probably no where near each other. (And for the record, The Ramones, and the Sex Pistols "sold out" too. . . but they still are gods!)

See, that's what I was thinking. Why is Greenday in the punk area to begin with? Because their music was different to begin with? Well, that makes it. . . alternative. But it doesn't make it bad.
