Well its not a religious holiday, but a secular one.
The equivelent of July 4th here.
Its just that, even though most of us jews don't live in Israel, we feel we should celebrate its formation anyway.

Is your girlfriend Jewish, had family that was, or just had political activists in her history?

Yes, her great grandmother was Jewish. After the holocaust, she decided that she would want to move to Scotland and there, she fell in love with my girlfriends' great grandad.

I really didn't know what to say when she told me that, all I could say is "That's a heck of a silver lining".

I'm a Jew, I however, don't really believe in the religion but can still answer questions regarding Judaism, God and Life, so yeah :D

I already had by Bar Mitzvah so I can answer those questions too. Anyway, can I have my Jaffle now? (Jewish Waffle :D)

Yeah I had my Bar-Mitzvah there. It was great, I visited the Wall and everything. I was a bit nervous but overall it's a decent country, nice beaches, and warm climate. Although my only complaint is the drivers there are crazy. The rules of the road are so much different than Canada and drivers behave a lot differently, my dad almost got into a car crash 8 times, I was counting, no lie.

Its not just taxi's.
Its well known that Israeli's are psycho drivers.
Plus their road system is terrible, and really makes matters a hell of a lot worse.

Example: In america traffic lights go:

1) Red (stop)
2) green (go)
3) Yellow (slow down)
4) Red (stop) [repeat]

In israel they are slightly different

1) Red (stop)
2) Yellow (rev you engine and get ready to go way to fast)
3) Green (hit the gas pedal and GO GO GO)
4) Yellow ( slow down )
5) Red (stop) [repeat]

gf, just got back a month ago and told me all about it. Its like nascar.

yeah, they do, but not to this extent from what I was told. I thought I might have been one of the few people to actually look at the other lights. At least I'm not crazy... or too crazy.

So what exactly would one do in a Jerusalem walk? Is it just supporting Israel, or what?
