To all who are asking about where to find free software,

Go out to Borders and pick up a copy of "Computer Music"cm88 July 05 - the hip-hop issue.

It's a UK magazine but you can usually find them at Borders. This issue has black lettering on a white background at the top and the front cover is predominantly orange and yellow so it should be easy to spot.

It'll run you $15 but it comes with a DVD full of software and samples.

One of the titles is CM Studio - basically everything that you need to start making music. Also comes with a few VSTis - a 101, 202, 303, 404 and 505 as well as 4 or 5 decent VST effects - a vocoder, spingverb comb and resonant filters - all really good stuff.

The FREE Computer Muzys software is a little hard to get the hang of but this is actually a REALLY POWERFUL set once you get the hang of it. Full MIDI support - use any VSTi or sound sample (about 4000 are included on the DVD) to create loops, then sequence them out similar to other loop based programs.

There are also a ton of demos on the DVD - from Drumagog to Reason 3

And for you loopheads out there - over 4000 royalty free 24-bit loops - always a nice addition to any loop library.

The VST's are of course usable in any other app that can host them too...

And that's just the DVD - the magazine itself has many great articles and tutorials like the "Trance Masterclass" , "Sidechaining made easy" and "Sound like Gorillaz"

NOT A BAD DEAL for $15 !

Wow! it costs $15!! It's only £5 here in the UK which i'm sure is not the monetary equivallent.
Very good advice tho, Computer Music and it's sister magazine Future Music are both excellent reading and come with DVD Roms full of copyright free samples & loads of other great stuff, I advise you all to check them out.
Oh and if u buy FutureMusic August 2005 edition, check out the Readers Demo section, i got a good review in there under the name WEEKSC. Ah, good ol shameless self-promotion:)

NICE! - I'll go pick that one up !!

So when are we gonna make that LP that's gonna change the way the world hears music?

I really love all of those UK publications there are so many really good titles - not just music either - but yes, in the states they are a bit expensive. I guess it's because of additional shipping charges and all of that....

hahaha. Well i'm still without my main bit of Hardware, which is gonna cost me a lot to get fixed, so without that i'm pretty useless, though I am learning Reson 3 at the mo and I can do some basic stuff on that. I'm hoping to get my machine fixed in the next month or so, it's along time without it, but i have no cash at all at the mo, I spend to much at bleep.com:)
